So funny watching you fend off your chickens! Today I opened one of my Royal Golden Melons, it had rained heavily before I did --oops, but the melon looked like yours inside & I agree it's not overly sweet but very delicious & refreshing. Mine also got blight/fungus but it hasn't affected the fruit.
Looking at that Thick Rind made me think of Watermelon Rind Pickles ! Ever had them? They're a Delicious Southern tradition (like Fried Green Tomatoes). Had to laugh when I saw you hesitate to cut it's umbilical cord :)
No I haven't tried them!!! Sounds yummy though!
This year I'm growing watermelons for the first time! And it's Royal Golden!
