Hhmm... seems like muticam doesn't work well in the lush greens but blends in really well with trees, mud, and darker vegetation.... Interesting. Thanks for the videos, I found these camo videos are really eye opening on what works best where. This is the only channel I know that does this!
+Cletus223 agree with you. I'd like to also mention that MC Tropic works well in shadows. But along with that I heard that human eye better distinguishes dark-colored objects than light-colored over distances like 300+ meters. So in this respect MC should work better over distance. Still MC Tropic will fade a bit during usage so it can provide some advantages.
Very nicely demonstrated. No needless narration or stupid grunge music. Illustrates the basic concepts of all camo - Movement, unnatural shadows and highlights (human face, rounded boonie, leg with boot) all tend to destroy any camouflage effect. Also demonstrates, as most suggest, that multicam quickly becomes a black blob at just a short distance. Please do more like this.
I was very happy getting issued Multicam when I deployed in 2011. Granted the alternative was UCP so anything is a step up from that. It worked great around Ft. Bliss and in the Wardak Province.
Gentleman I know this is a serious video and Brent already knows that this is heroic work to show the people these camo patterns so we could determine what we might need in our areas. But I must say at 4 minutes and 19 seconds that walk that Brent does across the path really just tickles me some way and he's serious as a mug to that's what I love about it. Stayfree
For those of you saying it doesn't work in the forest, you could be wearing a bright yellow shirt and jeans and still disappear in this environment as long as you know a thing or two about camouflage. Camouflage is only meant to break up your outline and won't make you invisible. An accurate rifle doesn't make you a better marksman if you don't even know the fundamentals of marksmanship
you could be wearing a bright yellow shirt and jeans and still disappear in this environment as long as you know a thing or two about camouflage. --->All the more reason not to spend a fortune on multicam.
What they really don't want to hear is that no amount of gear or training is going to prepare you whatsoever for that moment you become an animal under threat.
So, basically, it doesn't work in this environment. Everything is so bright green there. This is a FANTASTIC video. Very well done. It really shows me the capabilities of the Camo. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Multicam is too light in this environment, but it blends perfectly with dirt though. If I have to go into combat in this environment with Multicam I would avoid using leaves as a cover. The upcoming Multicam Tropic will definitely works better as it is a specific camouflage.
Thanks for the videos and as well as the effort you put into them As an airsofter, your camo videos sure did save my ass in certain scenarios by picking out the right camo for whatever environment I'm being thrown in. Anyway, I thank you for serving this blessed country as a Marine. SEMPER FI!
Just wondering, have you ever scared the crap out of someone while shooting your vids? (i mean hikers ect. who didnt know you were out doing what you do).
Not so sure, I spotted him just as quickly in Woodland camo and Marpat Woodland in those videos. Then again I wore this in the 'stan so maybe I'm biased.
I've used different military camo patterns as well as the common civilian ones and studied hunting partners doing the same. I've come to the conclusion that if I need to hide from human eyes here in the US I'll choose the Mossy Oak or RealTree pattern that fits my area. The military stuff works fairly well but when compared to the popular patterns designed for hunters it doesn't come close. Camo really doesn't make a whole lot of difference when hunting most species so ironically using surplus military camo is just fine but if I was trying to hide from folks trying to shoot me I'd be heavily invested in RealTree or Mossy Oak or similar. We used to play "find the hunter" in the woods with all the different patterns folks would show up in and military patterns were, by far, the easiest to pick up on. A well matched "hunting" pattern camo on the other hand could drive you nuts trying to pick the person out. It's not tacticool but if my life were on the line I'd be wearing my hunting camo's and not Tiger Stripe, Multi Cam or any of the others. Fortunately I'm not the target when out hunting so any bargain surplus military camo is fine. Now that's irony. Obviously the same thing wouldn't work for military use because it's too specialized but for home turf use it's a no brainer. Great videos, very informative to see and not just hear someones opinion.
i was always wondering too , that that Hunter Stuff works better to fool the Human eyes .... when you think about it you are the hunter not the pray... and ducks and deer are not very smart to track any camo down until you move^^
Multicam and other types of camos are often multi purpose or favoring a specific terrain type(desert, jungle, urban, etc) Multicam is pretty awesome in rocky desert terrain like Afghanistan or where Im at in western Nevada. There's some specific hunting camos for this region of the US that are a little better, but multicam isnt a bad type to fall back on.
Well done video. Half of these I couldn’t even see you. Multicam seems to best blend in with the ground and trees in this environment, and is only really effective in the brighter vegetation when you aren’t right in front of it. Thank you for making this.
Wow, best camouflage pattern I've seen so far. While most of the camouflage patterns are way too dark, this one perfectly blends with the environment, as you can see at 05:31. I served in the German army a few years ago and due to the darkness of the camouflage pattern (often referred to as "Flecktarn"), German soldiers observed from the distance appear as dark spot in almost every environment. Bottom Line for me? MultiCam rocks!
Damn, I saw you right away. I've been switching to multicam because it's very effective here in the desert southwest. Thanks for your excellent videos.
WOW it REALLY sucked in a woodland environment. I'll take Woodland Camo over that any day. You should do a video with multicam tropic. It will likely work better.
I love multicam. its really all I have other than woodland bdu, and woodland marpat. It does better than you would think in such a green environment. I subbed.
How reflective they clothing is makes a big difference. I’ve got some multi cam clothes that are made of a worn cotton and they are the same as wearing blue jeans. And yet the polyester multi cam which has more of a “wet” look to it blends in perfectly. The stuff you’re wearing in this video reminds me of my blue jeans.. just worn, reflective and almost white.
Had fun picking you out ....i paused the video each time to see if i could spot you. The fact I knew you were there on purpose....made it simpler...however...stillness is an effective part of camoflage. Even though you were wearing multicam...so long as you were still...someone would easily pass by. Thanks for the video. I am a personal fan of the green and brown tiger stripe. There is the vietnamese version also but it has too much yellow/tan for my liking. I've had my tigers for 19 years now. I don't wear them daily so they have managed to hold their colour without too much fading. Camouflage has been a passion of mine since gradeschool. Every project I ever did was on camouflage in nature or stealth. I may just have to post a video one day. subscribed.
Tan is basically a not a natural color here in any northern states once you leave the south west & maybe Florida areas. The video did a good job of showing that. The "ATAC " camo pattern in light & dark green would work best for any lush green environment, and if you need to get any brown on it just get em dirty! Expect to see them down the road, for at the current pace by which we keep switching our cammo pattern (every 8 or 9 years now) I would not be suprised if ATAC style is next for at least here in CONUS & European Theatre.
+MountainRecluse Lots of brown in PA, plus grey(mountain rocks) dark greens(spashed all year), rusty brown/orange(always on the forest floor at least). Real Tree Xtra works well in the fall/winter/early spring. Wish Mossy Oak would make there Overwatch available, good colors, for Eastern PA at least.
unless you were in deep heavy vegetation I spotted you very often. seems to blend better against the mud and downed trees. also I recommend trying to hold still a bit more and breaking up your body silhouette by adding twigs and leaves in your gear.
Like the video, however, multicam doesn't work in forest environments. It is best used in places like Northern California grass lands and such, speaking from using this for the past 4 years here in California.
I enjoyed the video tremendously. Not being military, I cheated a bit and slapped pause on every scene, giving myself 5 seconds to spot. 4:01 and 4:23 were effective, together with where you moved to at 5:04. 5:32 struck me as the best blending location. Got the rest by my method, mainly through shape, though for it's multipurpose design it was excellent; some additional work on the outlines with available foliage would easily counter shape recognition and address tone issues. Can definitely see it's appeal in the depicted environment.
i believe that this one of the better available patterns out there. it was very effective in this vegetation in the video. i think the lighter greenish color helped for blending in. much better than the darker woodland pattern that we wore in the eighties and nineties.
Sorry friend but I'm my opinion! I saw several camouflage and also saw them all the time, it is difficult to choose the best among the camouflage. I choose to MULTICAM among the best camouflage. Hug
Hello my friend, but the Woodland camo is a good camouflage but both the multicam as the Woodland are not good for the desert, there is specific camouflage for the desert. Still in Afghanistan using all types of camouflage whether or not to desert. I continue with the Multicam ok A hug my buddy.
Hey Brent, when you get the chance to do more hunting patterns you should get some cabela's colorphase camo. It's the very first camouflage that uses temperature-activated dyes. In the spring/summer it turns green and in the fall/winter it turns brown, it's available in two patterns woodland and western and it's not too expensive a whole set costs less than 100 dollars so it's definitely something to consider.
Again, a very helpful and interesting video. Thank you for all your efforts in making it It takes a lot of time and work. Here in Colorado, Multicam makes most folks "invisible" during most of the year because the terrain is composed of mostly shades of brown with some green interspersed. Of course in snow.... snow cammo! Thanks, again, Lt. Dan
It’s not bad but not particularly amazing at blending into woodland, I could see it performing well if mixed with other camos/colors, like with some ranger green and some accents of multicam tropic.
I would say that it is excellent in that environment. I was able to spot you at 2:23 in the light green grass, but still very good. I think it was best near or in the creek bed.
Great video, did you hear that Frye Precision has recently come out with four new multicam patterns? A tropical pattern for jungles, arid pattern for deserts, an arctic pattern called alpine, and a black pattern for supposed urban environments. When they are released on the market I think you should definitely get the tropical pattern. It has a lot more green in it so it would probably be way more effective in this vegetative environment where you live.
I want to buy tarp. I have to choose between multicam and czech camo vz. 95. Exactly in a similar environment. (Czech forrest.) Thank you for the demonstration. Now I see that the vz. 95 will be much better because in this video I found you in one second in every example :D
I'm really curious about the Multicam uniform you're wearing. Looks much more faded than the Crye uniforms. Might explain why it appears so much lighter than the the Operational Camoflage Pattern in your OCP video. Wondering if that's why it's so easy to spot in this video.
The multicam does not seems to work in cold/temperate regions at all but rather in hot regions which was probably why it was adopted for the OEF/OIF. Have you tried the tropical multicam? looks so cool and effective. As of now my favorite is the MARPAT design as the most universal camo than the ucp.
Ya know... better than the tropic in my opinion, just came here from the multicam tropic video. Also, gotta take into account, that in this individual frame, I know someone is there, taking that into consideration pretty damn effective if you ask me.
Multicam rocks. This is definitely one of the best camo patterns you've had in your videos. And the camouflaged gun is also helping a lot. Just try to cover the big green Velcro patches on your sleeves. I play airsoft, and multicam really hides players better.
I think most camouflages work good in one place but fail miserably in the next. You make good videos, you have earned my subscribe. P.S. I think you should do a side by side comparison of ghillie suits and pattern camouflage, that would be interesting.
Multicam won't be the first choice for me. I saw you most of the time before moving. To me it only seemed effective when in shadow and a good amount of Foliage. Great videos. Does help me on deciding what kind of cammo to consider.
that camo, multicam,in fall/autumn in central/northern italy is something of crazy,u really can't see who worn it until him is on you -in more hot season with green foliage around as spring the lack of green parts in the camo itself could be felt, as the clip shown
About what I expected for Multicam in your particular environment. Not bad. Just better in Fall/Winter or higher elevations of veg enviroments. Multicam is highly effective in grasslands and chaperal. Not bad in true dessert or true wooded enviroments. But that's why they made W2 Scorp in the three variations.
I wish they would’ve done the deal with Crye. I mean the Scorpion W2 “OCP” pattern is great, it’s just too bright, the Deployment MulitCams they had from 12’-14’ were a perfect shade.
Cool video. I love MC and have pants, rain shell and hat that I use to hunt. I think some of the realtree and mossy oaks do a better job in the right season while staying still but think nothing can beat the versatility of MC in so many seasons and environments, especially while moving. Id just like to find heavily think bib overalls for very cold conditions.
Hi Brent! Liked the vid! Do you know by any chances where can I find thicker and more resistant MTP uniforms like old shool woodland? I've looked all around and all I could find was worm weather Camo, I'm posting from Serbia and now there are lot of hursher conditiones than the ones in Iraq and Afg.-refering to the weather of course! Also the uniform i've got is not that resistant to the thorn-vegetation. Thanks!
There’s a lot of stuff out there brother, it’s just pricy. Here is a field jacket that is patterned in Multi-Cam: www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/tru-spec-m65-field-jacket-multi-camo.aspx?a=1041136
5:20 Immediately, though I wasn't sure 5:30 Immediately Not saying that it's a bad pattern, I think this test would go much better in a different environment and/or time of year. There's a lot of potential in MC, though it's not the best in such green terrain. I also noticed that it works pretty good when there was mud/ground behind you
The effectiveness of Multicam in woodland environment depends very much on the lighting conditions. Sometimes it blends very well, sometimes it almost looks like a white suit.
Neither the Army or the Marine Corps has adopted ATACs patterns. There maybe some S/F units in the Army that are allowed to wear whatever they want though. That certainly is not the case in the Marine Corps.
Looks like it does pretty good in a green environment, as long as it's dark green vegetation. It contrasts pretty badly against a light green background. But you can't have it all in one package.
Paul Robins It’s not a ghillie suit, I make these videos using different patterns so that people can see what the patterns looks like in a woodland environment. Sometimes I’m out in the open, other times I use more vegetation to help break up the outline since the human figure is so easily recognizable. The key point here is its not a where’s Waldo, but a chance for people to see what the pattern in question looks like out in the elements. Most people don’t have a forest readably available for them to see for themselves.
***** Yes, I do think I was judging a tad to harshly as well. I mean, the great thing was you took the devotion to do a review, and didn't really try to make things out "better" than they are. I give a +1 also, based off you did the review in multi-seasons. No matter what camo option I wear here in the states, if I want to totally blend in, I wear my bushrags. I've found some that work in my environment fairly well, but nothing seems 100% issued or you can buy on the market here.
What if you have the Multicam Uniforms, and mix it with a tan or OD plate carrier, pouches etc.? I bet that would work much better, but I feel like it would look silly
Multicam may not work specifically for a certain environment but it's design to conceal in quit a few environments, but not the best one in certain ones like forests and the like. They're still effective but if I know what area I'm going into and it would be a forest-like one, I will definitely get Woodland or Tiger Stripe camo.
Hey - nice videos. I've noticed most of these camouflage tests focus only on "breakup" camo and not "mimicry" camo. Right now I have Realtree APHD camo (as well as APS for winter) and I'm very pleased with how effective they are in wooded areas. Realtree's new camo patterns take AP to the next level, Realtree XTRA and XTRA Green. You should test some of these newer military camos against the top-market hunting camos and see which really perform better. Again, great vids!
Pen -cot Green Zone will out perform anything to do with bright green shade environments. If you or anyone else have not seen or heard of this look it up.
In my opinion, MultiCam can be pretty effective when it comes to an environment with less vegetation, but it performs decently in here. The thing that I noticed first was your overall body, then the pattern. If you were to break up the "Human" shape with indigenous vegetation, i'm sure you would've been hidden more effectively.I realize you didn't for the video's sake. Overall, great vid! Thank you for your service, and keep up the good work man!
+Brent0331 Not meaning to be a bother, but do you remember where you got this uniform set? Looking to switch from UCP to MultiCam for some Airsoft and some PT. Once again, thanks for the info!
You know, out of all the camo videos ironically the SS Oakleaf patterns seem to be some of the best. Specially being double layered they could switch between greens to browns.
I believe multicam changes a lot when its been through the mud and dirt. As far as I can tell multicam is the superior because of a few factors, but with said I also believe that woodland is not an inferior camo. I know it sounds contradictory, but there are give and takes between them both.
Hhmm... seems like muticam doesn't work well in the lush greens but blends in really well with trees, mud, and darker vegetation.... Interesting. Thanks for the videos, I found these camo videos are really eye opening on what works best where. This is the only channel I know that does this!

Still MC Tropic will fade a bit during usage so it can provide some advantages.
Problem with MC Tropic is that it is TOO dark. In shadows it gets almost black. Multicam is fashion for dorks, not camo.
A blend of reg. Multicam & mjlticam tropic world rock!
True. But you can always augment with vegetation procured on site.
Very nicely demonstrated. No needless narration or stupid grunge music. Illustrates the basic concepts of all camo - Movement, unnatural shadows and highlights (human face, rounded boonie, leg with boot) all tend to destroy any camouflage effect. Brent0331 Hey Brent, have you gotten a chance to try out the Russian surpat?

Blends in well with the ground dirt and tree bark

Brilliant video. Multicam really tricks the eye into believing that it's part of the negative space in the background.
I love his work, showing the effectiveness, so we dont have to bust our ass trying ourself

Thanks for watching, there is also a PART II and a OCP effectiveness video on my channel.
Nice video. Short informative no bs. Thanks
Yeah, I’ve only seen MultiCam Black for sale though. I might pick up a set of the Tropic when it comes out.
I want to buy tarp. I have to choose between multicam and czech camo vz. 95. Exactly in a similar environment. (Czech forrest.)
Thank you for the demonstration. Now I see that the vz. 95 will be much better because in this video I found you in one second in every example :D
I believe that you have tested Multicam, Woodland Marpat and old school BDU Woodland. In your opinion, which do you prefer and why?
I'm really curious about the Multicam uniform you're wearing. Looks much more faded than the Crye uniforms. Might explain why it appears so much lighter than the the Operational Camoflage Pattern in your OCP video. Wondering if that's why it's so easy to spot in this video.
This is entirely no detection spots
I thank u for that sample
And now i know the multi cam how they works!
Topic;
Multi cam
:-)
The multicam does not seems to work in cold/temperate regions at all but rather in hot regions which was probably why it was adopted for the OEF/OIF. Have you tried the tropical multicam? looks so cool and effective. As of now my favorite is the MARPAT design as the most universal camo than the ucp.
Watched both videos, proves you need more than one color of camo. Tropical in summer, standard for fall.
That makes sense. Circles and lines are bad! Amazing how the eye distinguishes them first.
Bad ass just ordered mine yesterday can't Waite. ..
Excellent Gunny
Ya know... better than the tropic in my opinion, just came here from the multicam tropic video. Also, gotta take into account, that in this individual frame, I know someone is there, taking that into consideration pretty damn effective if you ask me.
Cool. Thanks man. I have always wondered how multicam looked, or didn't look out in the woods.
shotty091 Thanks for watching.
I love this video. Thank you.
This was pretty good! Seems that multicam works better in a more brownish enviornment/background. Took some effort to find in most.
Dark areas seem to work best with this. In the light and against green areas makes it stick out.
I agree with you. It works well in many environments.
just got a multicam shirt. very pleased.
The lack of green on the uniform really makes you stand out like a sore thumb. I spotted you straight away in all of them, which suprised me.
that camo, multicam,in fall/autumn in central/northern italy is something of crazy,u really can't see who worn it until him is on you -in more hot season with green foliage around as spring the lack of green parts in the camo itself could be felt, as the clip shown
About what I expected for Multicam in your particular environment. Not bad. Just better in Fall/Winter or higher elevations of veg enviroments. Multicam is highly effective in grasslands and chaperal. Not bad in true dessert or true wooded enviroments. But that's why they made W2 Scorp in the three variations.
I Am Prior Service USMC and US Army (1987-1998), and,I prefer the M-81 BDU in the Woodland Camouflage Pattern Uniform.
It looks like multicam is about 50-50 on lush green areas and the Old School Woodland Cammie is the best way to go for spring and summer use.
I wanted to say something critical, but , good job. Seriously.
Thanks
It seem to work the best when you are down at the creek bed, it's still pretty good all round though.
I wish they would’ve done the deal with Crye. I mean the Scorpion W2 “OCP” pattern is great, it’s just too bright, the Deployment MulitCams they had from 12’-14’ were a perfect shade.
In the us army, multi cam has been the go to for Iraq and Afghanistan since 2010. Blends in there nicely. Same with the ocp pattern
I would love to see a Multicam Tropic Effectivness video
Seems to be most effective when you completely hide yourself behind or within thick vegetation and/or brush.
Isn't that just fuggin' amazing?
awesome vids Sir
joshuah moran Thanks

Could you make a video with Spanish woodland ? thanks for your videos
US ARMY OCP seems to not work in this environment. However it did work when he was in between twigs and leaves blending in together near the water.
Here is a field jacket that is patterned in Multi-Cam: www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/tru-spec-m65-field-jacket-multi-camo.aspx?a=1041136
5:20 Immediately, though I wasn't sure
5:30 Immediately
Not saying that it's a bad pattern, I think this test would go much better in a different environment and/or time of year. There's a lot of potential in MC, though it's not the best in such green terrain. I also noticed that it works pretty good when there was mud/ground behind you
Awesome video man, I'm stoked the army is going with the scorpion camouflage. Not much of a difference. Works great. Thanks for the video brother.
Thanks for watching man
At combat ranges there's surely no visible difference between Scorpion W2 and Multicam.
The effectiveness of Multicam in woodland environment depends very much on the lighting conditions.
Sometimes it blends very well, sometimes it almost looks like a white suit.
Is ATAC camouflage the newest standard uniform for the Marines or Army?
Neither the Army or the Marine Corps has adopted ATACs patterns. There maybe some S/F units in the Army that are allowed to wear whatever they want though. That certainly is not the case in the Marine Corps.
Which camo out of the ones said would be best for deep forests and woods?
+Ethan Green MARPAT Woodland and Flecktarn should both work very well in deep wood areas.
+Harry Akira Eaton how about multi cam or tiger stripe?
Looks like it does pretty good in a green environment, as long as it's dark green vegetation. It contrasts pretty badly against a light green background. But you can't have it all in one package.
Superb, loved it!
See him as plain as day lol unless he was hide behind a bush, wearing blue jeans and a T shirt would be no difference lol
Paul Robins glad I wasn't the only one who thought that.

Yes, I do think I was judging a tad to harshly as well.
Seems like it would be effective for my terrain in my part of Texas which goes from plains to forest to of course urban
Also i like your AR
Muticam and ATACS are my current favorite patterns but anything to brake up the silhouette is better than nothing.
What if you have the Multicam Uniforms, and mix it with a tan or OD plate carrier, pouches etc.? I bet that would work much better, but I feel like it would look silly
In your opinion what is your favorite camo pattern for woodland area like in Florida or Georgia during spring/summer?
Thanks for your demostration
Ruben Burgos Thanks
Pen -cot Green Zone will out perform anything to do with bright green shade environments. If you or anyone else have not seen or heard of this look it up.
Intresting channel, and good job!
Multicam does do a good job
In my opinion, MultiCam can be pretty effective when it comes to an environment with less vegetation, but it performs decently in here. The thing that I noticed first was your overall body, then the pattern. If you were to break up the "Human" shape with indigenous vegetation, i'm sure you would've been hidden more effectively.I realize you didn't for the video's sake. Overall, great vid! Thank you for your service, and keep up the good work man!
+I_Like_Pie Thanks brother.
So in the type of environment he's in on this vid, what camo would you wear for good concealment?
