I heard another concert of this tour - my last opportunity to hear Jeff Porcaro live. Will never forget this, amazing drummer and musician. Such a cool guy. RIP Jeff Porcaro and thank you for your great playing.
Great performance! Jeff and Mike’s groove was just incredible. I don’t know why they haven’t put the Past To Present album on Spotify. I know they wanted to get rid of the stuff they did with Byron, but they’re still great songs.

Remember this being shown on BBC in 1990. I was 15 and this concert set of a 30 year fascination following their music and going to their gigs. I’d say 1990-1995 was their peak but having Simon Phillips brought a new element to the band. Porcaro (both brothers) taken way too soon. An immense talent. Live they are unsurpassed
Miss these days where Toto was at their peak and they were only getting better. Not to many bands out there could play rock, something a little funky and ballads like this band could. And Jeff Porcaro, what more can you say about him that hasn't been told? Truly the best drummer of his era hands down!!!!
Toto is at their peak now! I just saw them in concert this month and they are rockin' it! Selling to Sold Out crowds, especially in Europe. Toto is still writing music & their albums are still going platinum. They R still at their peak!! Go see them & see. They R awesome!!
This was the toto concert we had on video when I was a kid and I played it to death. I know some of the band had issues with byron but I've seriously never watched toto at any other time where they looked like they were having more fun on stage or brought more energy just getting their jam on!
I read on a page that during rehearsals Jean would bounce round the stage like Richard Simmons on acid with Jeff P and Luke rolling their eyes. He wore one glove like Michael Jackson often reading the George Michael bio. Luke one said to him we don't understand your vision with Jean replying my vision is correct yours is the wrong one.
Byron makes a magnificent performance, but the roar of the guitar in the final solo makes us shudder, it is Lukather's innate gift, for me they are and will always be the best band !!!

I just read the passage in Luke's book about this Byron guy. He doesn't hold any punches. According to him, Byron was completely delusional, with a pretty high image of himself and considering Toto as his back up band. The situation was so tense that they had to cancel the last leg of the tour and fire his ass.
Yeah, I think he was clearly a good singer, and at times even fit Toto really well musically speaking (this performance is a good example). But obviously there was an impossible lack of chemistry.
One of his best solos, imo. I’ve always loved this version way more than the studio version. The studio version’s solo is very muted and low in the mix.

Maybe Toto didn't like the gay dancing he usually does, but he is a good singer and has a nice voice. Not sure why it didn't work out. Did they feel he was getting too much attention? He had more energy than the last guy.
