I attended a funeral in Russia in 1998. It was -20 degrees. I remember the grave digger had dug the grave with just a shovel in the stone hard ground and he wasn't wearing gloves. His hands were completely calloused and purplish. Someone handed him a bunch of roses to put on the coffin and he grasped the thorny stems of a dozen roses in his bare hands and ripped the stems in half. There is training tough and then there is just naturally born and bred tough.
This guy is more then just a world class wrestler, he's a wise wise warrior
Somewhere in Mongolia someone is telling a very different version of this story...
The story goes. I had to take shower in Siberia once. The water was so cold I thought my nuts were gonna freeze to my leg. I noticed this dude looking at me like I'm a badass for not testing it and just jumping in and not flinching. He didn't know that I was frozen solid.
LMFAO THATS TO FUNNY
His is "I took a shower" lol
Remember watching this video my sophomore year of highschool, outside in my back yard at night, after a 2 mile run… man how time flies. I miss wrestling
I miss it too!! Watching these outstanding training aids makes me feel like a teenager again.
I started watching these videos my sophmore year too
Train bjj
@@ron.7105 relive in it. Great lifestyle
I remember this too . Trying to cut weight at 11pm on school day. Running 11 miles 😂 crazy lol
Mental toughness is everything when combined with skill, strength, and cardio.
Thank you for this uplifting story. We often forget that many people around the world do not even have clean water or food to consume, let alone to bathe in
alleycatufc people in the U.S. are naturally weak minded not because they are not tough but we have so many things available to us like hot water, food everyday at the store, etc. Put into the same situation most rise to the occasion but this is natural to most people around the world, living without hot water.
@@KOLATCOM you need to ask more about communism from people who lived there not from people brainwashed by media as they never crossed water like you did.. as for wrestling , thank you for your share
BADASS story. I am going to take cold showers now and try to maintain relaxed posture/expression and a positive, happy state of mind.
This is an awesome little thing to incorporate into a badass's life. Helps you stay non reactive to the environment. Derive your emotional state from the inside only.
So true. I took cold showers for a year straight. Even when I had the flu even after the longest training sessions. By the end of this insanity, I could be just relaxing soaping up my body with reggae music playing in the background. Mental toughness is such a part of combat sports. Thanks for sharing you are awesome
Great point of view. I think the fear of failure was the hardest thing to overcome. Not just in my time wrestling but in life itself.
Yes, wrestling is a great teacher for life!
Great speech , respect from Iran
ive been attempting self improvement for months now, gradually stopped taking cold showers like a coward, after watching this im back on track.
Great story. Although I never reached my goals in wrestling, it helped me become a better man. Now as a coach I hope to help these young men and women reach their highest potential and become better people in life. I appreciate you and what you’ve done for the sport.
Thank you for your support!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought about only taking cold showers so I’ll toughen up. Then I try it and I’m like “nope.” 😂
For all them from eastern countries it was an honor to take part in the competition, thanks for story even is 13y old👍
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Hey Coach, Thanks!
I love this guy since i was kid always wanna do wrestling but in mexico we don't have that so i have to wait 4 years for Olympic game to see wrestling maches and now i training watching this man thank you bro !! Got bless you!
Really great insight, thanks for sharing. I’ve shown this to my son and other kids that I’ve coached for years to help give them perspective. On another note maybe the Mongolian had been listening to the Joe Rogan podcast about the benefits of cold showers 🤔
Ha ha, you never know.
of all the Martial Arts, wrestlers are known for their Toughness. Did Grappling with a wrestler. He is smaller than me, he is very strong, awesome cardio and never gives up. I tap out of exhaustion and his pressure game. I hope to learn from wrestlers :)
I guess this means cold showers and ice baths for now on.
Haha
Henry Gregory
Iranians don’t have cold showers and they’re super crazy good!
I bet them Serbians wouldn’t last a day under the Florida sun and with all that humidity!
That’s tougher training!
Maybe you need both extreme 🤔
I haven't met you in person sir, but you are my teacher and a role model
Appreciate your support!
Hell yeah so true. Practise being tough mentally in your way of life and soon ull start to see and feel things different everything is around u.
this video represents the importance of a strong mind. if the mind is weak, the body is weak.
I really wasn't expecting my country's name here. What u said sounds like a typical Mongolian wrestling attitude. :) You should travel there sometimes, so you would see even colder water (from the river). I always wondered why it is not ice.
Don't lie beoooch!
I would like to visit Mongolia.
Man! I haven't found a video of yours that I dodn't love! Good job, thank you for doing what you do, please keep up on it, it's soooooo helpful!
Thank you for your wonderful story. Your content is Gold. I subscribed and my boys and I are learning from you.
Love you Cary
Thank you for your support!
@@KOLATCOM always
He is from my home town. Just think if he had been born in today's world, he could just wake up in the morning and identify as tuff, or a world champ, or a woman. Life so much easier now.
Seems more complicated.
Thanks coach, I've learned a lot from you !
Great story, we appreciate it!
How old were you when you started wrestling did you ever feal like quiting how long did it take for you to be good at ankle picks and when did your first coach teach you ankle picks
GREAT STORY!
Great story, I need to toughen up.
Good stuff! My water heater went out and since I am an old man it bothered me. Son (a successful wrestler) didn't flinch.
Respect sir.
Appreciate that!
awesome video
i subscribed to your chanel. Thank you very much for this. I wanted to add couple things. I live in the USA now, but i grew up in Russia, and i wrestled freestyle overthere. I agree with mental toughness- its a very important attribute to develop. A lot of it lays on the self discipline. keep up the good work.
Amazing story
A true American martial artist
Where the mind goes, matter follows.
True!
Good advice man thanks
Very well said thanks coach
Great story Cary...thx.
You my whole Idol man🙏
this is my guy i swear
Pa produces best wrestlers
It'd be funny if he was trying to psyche you out and ended up inspiring you, or if he was too drunk to notice or something but it ended up inspiring you.
Great story, thanks for sharing. Got any more stories about wrestling overseas?
I am a Combat tested Marine and a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor. I am TOUGH by serving my country TOUGH
I've never been able to handle cold very well but felt normal in hot saunas at 200 degrees for 20 minutes. Recently talked to a guy in there that goes from hot sauna to full cold showers back and forth for the adrenaline
I realize how spoiled I am. Maybe a change coming.
Thanks for joining our membership!
This is good stuff. Stay clean
I tought i was tough until i saw Cary's look on the thumbnail
This is hilarious, did no one tell Cary that you're supposed to take ice cold showers after saunas. Its how its done in countries like Finland. The hot sauna opens up your pores, then you quickly close them by hopping in an ice cold lake or shower.
Wow, good story…..and I thought I was tough 😮
Appreciate that!
Wow, I feel so privileged you replying back. I just wanted to say. I’m so inspired by all your videos. I cannot wait until episode 2, and 3 comes on uTube. All I can say is that you are “THE MAN” that we can never be!……so inspiring! Thanks for all the videos on uTube. I wished I had these videos when I was wrestling in high school……but your videos implies to all aspects of life, and not just in wrestling! Thx again Cary.
Good job sar
You should get together and do a video with David Goggins!
Cold as steel
hello kolat plzzz can you make a video of your meals
I am Mongolian and I wrestle a lot!!!
Somewhere in mongolia: This one time at the worlds some wierd american man stared at me while i took a shower..
Word
Right on Bro lol
I will start with lukewarm water today 😅
Baby steps!
What do you think about before a match?
have a blank mind
I watched this video 3 years ago and i have been having only cold showers from that time. I am not olympic champion yet. We ll see...
Panda Who Upon so 4 years of cold showers now?
@@bosef9727 yeah! and still going. But I
recently decided to stop wrestling.
Have you ever tried Greco-Roman if so how were you at it
JaredB Wrestling I wrestled greco when I was 15 and 16 years old, liked it, did well, but freestyle is where I wanted to be
Cary Kolat what's the difference between Greco-Roman vs freestyle
Random Sounds ah I do folk style mostly I'll put a few moves from freestyle or Greco-Roman
I did Greco-roman in Greece where I come from for almost 5 years (from 12 to almost 17) and was asked to stop from my parents when a fellow athlete died during a fight. I pursued other martial arts and now at my 45 started grappling as wrestling is always in my heart. At that time our palestra looked like what Cary describes. Funny thing is that I visited two years ago and was happy to see that my instructor at the time is still there strong like an ox despite his almost 70 years old and the place had not changed a bit, same smell (hot water at the showers though now). Cary I discovered your videos two weeks ago that I was asked to train here in India and wanted to show some freestyle and although I remember you from the olympics, the way that you teach is amazing. Thank you for the material!
moral of the story.... act like a badass in a cold shower, and people will fear you
kolat where the hack are you from bc you mentioned like 4 countries
Asia roma he was an Olympic wrestler in the 80s and 90s so he has wrestled multiple countries
are you hearing about Brock Lesnar?
👍
You don't get great adding on, it's reduction. Get rid of what's useless only keep what's needed. Coach?
Streamlined!
Ima start taking cold showers
I only take cold showers but not for toughness, just to wake up faster.
I am a mongoloid
And he wore a hat and he had a job...
Why are cold showers a big deal? It’s not hard to get used to.
Guess you haven't been to Siberia.
Well I guess I'll be tough cuzz 80% of the time I have to take an ice cold shower
Really?
nooo. moral of the story is mongolia+ soviet siberia= badass. basic math
But one does not get mental toughness without physical work/training. So end result is mental toughness but, it requires hard work and training first bud.
Ps. Toughness is not measured by taking a cold shower, btw.. 🤦
did you ever use any preformance enhancing drugs?????????
