Killer video man, straight to the point, no fluff or b.s., just detailed step by step tutorial. I've changed wheel bearings, but never CV joints/axles on my 2009 Cobalt LT. Thanks man
I can't believe what I just saw. A mechanic replacing a CV axle step by step and nothing else! It was the most beautiful DIY video i've ever seen. The man didn't waste even a second of time with unnecessary intro greetings, begging for likes and shares, or generic ramblings. Well Done Sir. Liked 🍻
One of the best instructional videos I have ever seen on youtube... I like the hints and tips that no one normally explains. Torque specs and socket sizes were huge benefits!
I used to scribe the strut against the knuckle also to try and keep a similar alignment when I was doing these. Really great video. Clear audio and great editing. Keep em coming!
Thank you for the video. I just replaced the drivers side on an HHR following your instructions and it went will. Took just about an hour and a half. I did have a little trouble getting the axle out, it was stuck pretty good but finally got it.
I am impressed on the good instructions in your video. Also liked hearing the demonstration of the CV clicking noise. Hadn't actually heard it before. Hope you make a lot more videos!
Great video! It helped me get a good idea of how to do it on my 2010 cobalt ss. But for anyone who does this on a 2.0 SS W/ manual trans heres the difference: -It's a 36mm to break the center bolt - be VERY GENTAL when removing the cv axle or you will tear the seal! - 2 quarts of tranny fluid. It will come out because of the different design Again best video I found just trying to help add info for those with SS's like me 😁👌🏾
They may apply for the turbocharged models made 08 and after but the supercharged model (05-07) still uses a 30 mm for the axle nut and it actually takes 1.6 qts of manual transmission fluid. Make sure to only use ACDELCO GL-4(75w-85). You will only be able to get this from a dealership due to the specific additives.
I replaced mine with a used oem one due to the outer boot being ripped. From what I've seen, the aftermarket axles have softer rubber boots that deteriorate faster than oem.
This was very clear, thank you. I dunno if you check your comments much, but what happens if you accidentally pull out the part after the intermediate shaft? a bunch of transmission fluid came out before I managed the separate the smaller inner piece and get it back in there. I then continued with the installation normally. I am going to assume I now need to top off my transmission fluid, but are there other consequences of what happened that I did not consider? I made sure I plugged the hole with a clean microfiber towel as fast as I could so hopefully no dust went into the transmission. My current course of action is to add Dexron VI full synthetic automatic transmission fluid. That is what forums are telling me for the automatic 09 cobalt LT.
I remember like 25 years ago when I would replace just the boot. Then they started selling new axles so cheap it wasn't worth replacing the boots anymore.
Would a bad CV cause a plastic sounding clicking noise when getting up to 50 miles an hour and higher? Front driver and passenger side wheels both click and rattle when getting up to speed but kind of stop when turning. It doesn't click at all when turning left or right but going straight, it's terrible.
Omg can you tell me what’s the part number and/or where I can find the cv axle for the passenger side? Autozone has sent me on a goose chase for the right size cv axle on the passenger side. Please and thank you! I’d really appreciate it.
My passenger CV axle tore last night while driving. Got it home safely now trying to replace the CV and the axle seal. I removed the outer ring of the seal but the metal part is stuck around the axle and wont come off. Any idea on how to get it off?
You ever deal with a seiged lower control arm bolt? I’m trying to replace it but it won’t come out... the bolt it’s rusted together with the nut cage at the top of the lower control arm so even with air wrench it just spins
I have a right wheel that was smashed inward towards the engine and this axel broke - does transmission fluid come out of these axels? Im wondering how much they may gouge me for a broken seal- im not sure if alll that fluid came out from the seal or just the snapped in half axel
Good video, had to take out the lower control arm instead of the strut and also have to jack up the car real high to get the axle out from the other side with a crow bar, other than that, not a bad job.
Oowwwk got it I didn’t understand if I needed retaining ring pliers. I have all the tools👍🏼 always nice when you don’t have to buy tools you’ll only use once haha
Hello, my car axle is broken , I think please don't quote me on that tbh.....if I sent you a pic of what it looks like would be able to tell me if it's the axle or something else ....
Anthony Johnson if your model does not have the intermediate shaft seperating the transaxle from the axle shaft then yes, its normal that its leaking when you pull the axle shaft out and you have nothing to worry about
Not true! This car doesnt have cam bolts and I didnt scribe or mark anything and my alignment was still in spec after the repair. But your young and learning so I could see why you would think that

Thank you so much. Never done this kind of work and I was able to change mine on my '05.

@@barricadegarage5361 Thanks again, so much. Literally didn't have any trouble from point A to B with your instructions. And now my car drives smooth

Best instructional on U tube. Thank you for sharing with the rest of us. It's very much appreciated.
Thanks for the quick, efficient walkthrough of the procedure.
Couldn't have asked for a quicker, more precise video, top notch. None of the 20 minute telling your life story bullshit.
GREAT EXPLANATION!! ✌️✌️
Forget any other way or videos! Both axles done fast and easy. Thank you! (I did this on a 2007 cobalt)
Are the axels the same on both sides
@@mvpmoss8497 on the automatic transmission, yes.
But what about manual

sorry to bother but do you know if m86 axles will fit in a f35 transmission. basically putting base cobalt axles (m86) in the ss/sc (f35).
@@emdi26 sorry, that won't work.
@@thatnoobguy6146 thanks man. By chance do you know what axles are interchangeble for the sc/ss? nice cobalt btw!
