I highly recommend checking the voltage at the alternator power supply. A popped fuse will give you the same results. Idk if you have a multi meter but definitely check into it.
Before diagnosing an alternator as bad theres a few things to check first. Check your battery, as a bad battery can cause issues especially with newer vehicles Check all connections and terminals on the battery and alternator. Loose terminals and connections will cause issues Finally, check your alternator belt. The alternator will not charge if the pulley is not spinning.
Ecus should be 14 volts if you check it directly inside the car with a probe newer vehicles and older vehicles are the same with ecus in the engine bay, only the ecus in the interior matter the most in older cars. But you're right checking by the battery is the fastest way and it reads a maxiumum safe 12 volts so you won't get hurt
Unfortunately can't have everything on top. Something is always hard to reach it's either the alternator, water pump, tensioner, AC compressor, or something else.
I actually have a shop near me that rebuilds alternators. I have had Autozone alternators on my cars before and they just don't hold up despite their lifetime warranty. GREAT VIDEO!
It's cool if you already have an OBD2 reader with this functionality but it's good to know how to do this with a cheaper tool like a multi meter. And I'm saying this as a guy with multiple expensive readers as well as a Fluke multimeter. Always know how to do things multiple ways especially since the alternator and battery could be fine but a bad connection or blown fuse could give you wrong results with an OBD2.
Note that this doesn't check pcm/wiring on vehicles that control alternator using pcm. Dont learn the hard way. Trust me you never want to explain why the cost of the repair went up a thousand plus.

AutoZone rebuild alternators are junk from my experience. I had to replace 3 within a year on my old Nissan truck. Nice video!
I agree but they’re unfortunately what people buy and they come with lifetime warranty
9 out of 10 times that spacer is not set properly. Excellent explanation

Don’t forget to change the alternator fluid.. these new vehicles require you change it every time you replace the alternator. 😂😂😂
Where do i contact you to do some work on my car?
Idk why wouldn’t you just go right to the alternator with a multimeter and check the output
You got a link for the scanner ?
