In my country, Dominican Republic, there's almost no bullying, mainly because of two things; your parents encourage you to demolish anyone who hits you, and also your friends always back you up if more than one person is picking on you. I believe that there's so much bullying in some places because kids are told to just receive it and not stand for themselves.

Maaaannnnn I wish I had that when I’d go to the school in my village. I was homeschooled so I got bullied a lot when I’d go into town at all(plus my family were considered outsiders cause we weren’t related to half the village) and when I’d get bullied and get fed up with it and retaliate, I’d be the one punished cause the teachers are related to the bullies.
I’ve always said that the “we don’t tolerate bullies” thing schools have posted everywhere is bull$hit. I mean no one does anything about it. Heck there’s more bullying then stopping bullying IMO.

At my school, it was usually either:
    1. Stay back after class to have a word with the teacher for 5 minutes or so
    2. Stand in the corridor outside the classroom
And while this is not a punishment per-se, one time a teacher tracked me down at the canteen and scolded me in front of everyone lol

At school, I got in a fight and lost. But I was praised as a hero. To put the story short, I was hungry, and the biggest scariest student pushed in line. I pushed him out of the line, he shoved me into a bush. I punched him in the face. He punched me in the throat. That’s all I can remember. Afterwards I learned that I basically picked a fight with a local gang leader, and I have balls of steel for even trying to stand up to him.

Our ISS in middle school was so chill for some reason haha. We'd eat lunch in a room with an admin and we'd all watch television, eat, and do homework. Eventually it stopped when a new guy took his place but yeah.
Tbh in some ways I wouldn't mind being allowed to just breeze through the work at my own pace bc some classes were padded for time or made unnecessarily complicated. Some teachers make teaching more complicated than what it needs to be.

I almost never got in trouble when I was in the college. At first it was because I was actually one of those rule-abiding kid and in the later years I have become really good at hiding it when I did break some rules. Or sometimes it was just the staff letting it slip. Like this one time on the weekend one of the other guys just walks into my room and starts pissing me off and wouldn't leave. So, after a much heated conversation, I whack him in the jaw. He then punches me in the eye. After a bit of struggling, I managed to get him out. On Monday our housemaster, who is a real lad btw, asks me "Why do you have a black eye? " And I was like "I fell and hit my face on the doorknob". And at this point I know that he knows I'm giving him shit. And he knows that I know that he knows. But! It's an all boys house, and he clearly sees I'm really certain not to snitch, so he assumes I've got it under control and just goes " Alright, fine, off you go" and that was it. What a lad, Mr. Harvey, he really is.

I used to study French as a supplementary course in grade school. Was quite good at it...at the time (could speak decent French). Now, I completely forgot all my lessons.
So, I was supposed to say a certain sentence in French. I did it right but used the wrong verb tense, which apparently annoyed the teacher and I got detention for it. I wasn't even misbehaving or being a total nuisance about it. I made a small mistake and was given an unnecessary punishment.

I remember having a "fight" in high school, didn't really make contact except for when a friend jumped in and got fuckin' slammed into a bench by the other guy so I hit him, didn't actually hit him hard cause I was a noodle arm little bitch but I ended up internally suspended cause I was the only one who admitted to making contact, the other guy got off with a 20 minute detention during break and for some reason my friend also got a detention despite not doing anything past getting involved, the school had this weird punishment system where you had to report if anything happened to you, but then the other party could make a conflicting report if they wanted to along with any "witnesses" so sometimes punishments would be a lot lighter than they should have been or go to the wrong place, just happened to get unlucky with the witnesses on hand

ok wtf... so they are ages older than me who has graduated highschool but at their time of school there was already no more physical punishment?? Im in an Asian country and we would get beated with a long straw stick called rotan for simply not doing homework or being loud and some worse case scenarios in my primary school which was a well established one where we paid a good amount every month to study, once a student stole something the teacher took a chair threw it at a student then loosen the head of a broom (the brush area) and used the stick we normally hold on to when sweeping to whoop the student's ass as a punishment in front of the whole class. wtf is wrong with my Malaysia. Garnt is Thailand and also in asian culture so why is it different. The teachers here some I expect to have anger management issues cause when they get pissed they would down right make sure tears would come out and scars would remain (no joke).

Worst part is that most of the time teachers would just write students up because they felt like it and it got to a point that if a couple of my teachers wrote me up my parents just didn't give a shit because they were known in the community to do that.

By the time I was allowed to return to school 2 months later, that story had changed to She had a dream in which someone who looked like me said they would kill her.
Kid's are weird. But the principal did hate me & bully me a lot so I wasn't surprised by her bullshit. I just enjoyed my time a home and somehow managed to get ahead of the class anyway. Also had fun with the police while I was in their care to see if there was any potential danger.

I remember I got a week's suspension for making a little light-hearted joke at someone else's expense. They took the joke too seriously, and ended kicking me in the face with their boot and only got a few days of community service. This is because the school had "zero tolerance" towards bullying, unless it's an assistant principal insulting a female student, or if it's a science teacher angrily telling the special eds class to sthu. Then it's completely fine.

It's only a thing where they have literal guns being carried into schools. It's not a LoW iNcOmE aReA thing only, it's just a matter of is there a real threat of violence/gangs/weapons/harm. Those schools become like a police state but that's the rare ultra violent like top 1% worst schools, probably less than even that. If one shooting happened there that would be their band-aid "solution" that's my guess as to how they even get the funding cause schools are underbudgeted.

6:14, unfortunately because of how readily guns are available here in America we've grown to expect our schools to have some sort of security. When I was in high school we had unarmed school security guards that guard the entrance and patrol the school. After the Sandy Hook shooting, township police officers were added to the school security along with the school guards.

I had that kind of 'friend' in high school. We were a small group, nerds and nerdy hobbies, though not really bullied for it (we were willing to push back, so we think they didn't see us as easy marks). One guy in our group was someone who we goofed off with in school, and even protected him and calmed him down when he was about to make dumb decisions. We always tried to invite him to things outside of school, but he never went along with it. During the summer before our senior year, one of my friends invited him along again, and when he said no, my friend asked him why he never wanted to hang out. His response: "I'm fine knowing you guys in school, but outside of school, I want nothing to do with you. We're not friends."
End result was all of us not speaking to him anymore, him becoming more and more alone and angry with no one to calm him down. This led up to two incidents, the first when someone threw a skittle at him across the cafeteria and he threw a chair back at them, and the second when he randomly blew up at a student in class for asking him, I believe, for a pen, to which he started yelling at him, called him the hard n-word (they were both white, though doesn't matter, as again, hard usage), and stormed out of the classroom. When a teacher tried to stop him, he blew up at them, and let them know he wanted nothing to do with the school. He was put on suspension, and allowed to take the rest of his senior year classes from home, which were several months. He didn't show up for graduation either. Worse was everyone was looking at us and asking us about him, which we had to tell them what happened last summer.
Dude seriously just hated that school for no reason. He wasn't bullied, he wasn't ostracized, he just hated everything to do with it, and used us as shields to avoid consequences for acting like a douche. Haven't bothered trying to ever follow up or see what he's up to because...well, why would I? Guy could be in jail and the most I could muster is, "That tracks."

I live in the capital of one of the fastest growing states/cities in the US and have done contract work with about a dozen schools in 6 districts. Not a one has metal detectors. At the most I've seen a staffing of ~7 security guards & ~3 officers working in every other day kind of shifts of 3 guards & 1 officer at a time (1/2 day shifts for all but 1 guard who stayed all day). This school had ~2500 kids, medium sized in the district, it was my own HS I graduated from. [Don't ask why I knew so much about the guards work days lolz]

Loved hearing about the differences between schools in the UK and America. Although as an American, I cannot deny we live in fear in our own country. Not even our schools feel safe all the time. Every day before school started my schools' teachers would be at all the entrances and check our dress code and backpacks. We had to have these ID badges and wear it on a lanyard every day, all day. One would get in trouble if they didn't. Not to mention our backpacks had to be these plastic clear backpacks because kids have snuck in weapons and drugs into school before. Also 90% of student of judgmental asf. Even over the pettiest of things some kid would always throw hands and start fights. I hope university will be better! :D
