She had also introduced the drug to Robyn Crawford. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that you know that she and Whitney had a romantic relationship. Whitney was far from an angel when she met Bobby, and far from one when they divorced. The thing about addiction is that the person has to want to get clean. Noone can want it for them. They both began to do better after they separated, but neither of them really shook their drug habit. It wasn't until years later that Bobby finally decided to start behaving like a responsible father and husband. The drugs did a LOT of damage to his health. He developed heart problems, and he can't sing anymore, but at least he's still alive. Whitney wasn't so lucky.

Aside from drugs, I honestly think maybe if he and Whitney could’ve done alright had they been the same age. They went through very similar things at the same ages but since they were 6 years apart different growing pains at different ages caused a significant imbalance.

I guess Bobby and Whitney's relationship was mostly toxic due to their love of Drugs and their Egos, but I reckon had Drugs not entered the equation and just LOVE then there could've been something real and pure and long-lasting about their coupling. It was not meant to be. I read Robyn Crawford's book who said Whitney was originally obsessed with Eddie Murphy and she wanted Eddie to love her. Then Bobby came along and at first Whitney was not smitten by him.
So I don't personally believe they were meant to be, hence why it ended badly.
