- Academy Award and Tony Award-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones stars in "Cocaine Godmother: The Griselda Blanco Story," a Lifetime feature based on the life of drug lord Griselda Blanco, a pioneer in the Miami-based cocaine trade. At the age of 17, Griselda Blanco, made her way to the U.S. with a fake passport with her first husband Carlos. Living in Queens with her three sons, Griselda became enticed by the money the drug world offered and quickly became embroiled with local drug runners. In her lifetime, Griselda’s drug distribution network spanned across the United States and she was suspected of ordering over 200 murders.

I just saw the movie. I loved it, but it was too short. I wish it was a lot longer and more detailed. Other than that, Catherine Zeta Jones was VERY VERY good as Griselda Blanco. She did such an amazing job. :)))

Steven Still Her story has potential for the movies theater but a Netflix mini-seies would've been perfect. She has so much story. I was disappointed that Narcos didn't start with her story
Saying this without seeing the movie yet, which I want to, I do agree that Netflix would have made it much more intense, like it should be - being a story about Griselda Blanco. Considering that this film came from "Lifetime", I'm not sure if it would be. But Catherine Zeta-Jones' portrayal of "La Madrina" will definitely make up for that. Other than that, I can't wait to see the movie and I do hope "Lifetime" will prove me wrong. However, I do agree with you about "Netflix".

People have said why did they choose Zeta-Jones and not a Latino actor? Well, Catherine can pass for Latino or Spanish. The middle name Zeta sounds Spanish or German to me. It is possible she could have Spanish in her background due to in the late 1400s or early 1500s a Spanish ship did wreck off the British coast and the survivors mixed and mingled with the British Islanders. So, it is possible Catherine Zeta-Jones may have Iberian ancestory.

The first time I saw her was when she played with Antonio Banderas in Zorro. I was so shocked when I found out she was actually Welsh. I truly thought she was Latina. She looks it.

Maybe if the movie was in Spanish it would have at least seemed authentic.
that is why they should of gotten a Latin actress to play the lead role. Jones is Welsh and because of that it lost its authenticity. i've seen it. Salma Hayek would of been a good lead.

whether she can pass for a latino or not, this movie was not good. If you know the story of Griselda Blanco you will not like it.
The movie got everything wrong! The writers took too many creative liberties! The soundtrack was wack! Not a single CUMBIA! The cumbia is the national music of Colombia!
Also, Catherine Zeta-Jones was TOO TALL . . . TOO THIN . . . AND TOO PRETTY to portray Griselda Blanco, who was a short, fat mixed-raced woman who was not conventionally pretty.
Furthermore, Griselda had a good relationship with her mother, and she took care of her until the very end. Her mother was a _mulata_ which means that Griselda was a quarter black. Finally, in everything I have read and seen about this woman, I seriously doubt she was this big drug cartel leader. I think that she took the blame for some man.. She was merely the "fall guy".
Griselda was not a Lesbian, she had a particular fondness for tall, muscular black men!
Ohhh poor CZJ, she is completely crazy for setting an example of tenacity and bravery and courage to a drugdealer for being a woman. There are other better examples about women with those qualities that have done good to humanity. But that's how it was for the Film, a TOTAL FAILURE at the box office and critics and no big studio (MGM, Warner, HBO, etc) wanted to make it. A film and a performance to FORGET.
