  • A snapshot in changing the FE204 to CA-Fc8 in the Voigt pipe.
Got stuck with sharing a few ideas on full range drivers...
While they are not full-full range AKA 1Hz-130kHz (the full range of sound that can be PERCEIVED by hearing and body sensations), but their range is COHERENT and sufficient for a sense of WHOLENESS and RIGHTNESS that NO TWO OR MORE WAY LOUDSPEAKER CAN ACHIEVE.
BTW the FE204 reached down to 30Hz in my rooms, did reproduce the full Baroque church organ - and did render the VERY FINEST Baroque church organ reproduction I ever heard from any system. (Excluding the Voice of Lancelot, that stepped beyond - but anything else, far cry... the subs do not help with a Baroque organ, as they do give quanTITY, but they can't perform in quaLITY.)
I hope these videos will be informative and inspirational, and help you to start your fun with DIY.... I can tell from 20+yrs experience that when you build (or modify) your loudspeakers, they start talking to you and give you more joy than you ever thought possible.
    Amen to that.

Curious about your view of a 'baffle step' filter on a FR driver. It def seems to have increased the fidelity of my Lii Crystal 6. But at what expense?

The experience I had with these filters is that they made the sound more "right" but took away the soul....

@@realworldaudio I will be playing with removing/adding and see what I think. Thx for your viewpoint!

size doesn't indicate how low frequency it can produce.
1/2 inch reeds of a double bassoon can go down to 29 Hz the construction of the cabinet that produces lower frequencies that's why 3" driver can produce down to 30Hz
you could put them in the voigt pipes just attach a 19mm plywood to the front with double sided tape make sure the driver is countersink to the baffle and round nose the edges.

That's right, the pipe length dictates the low end - and the driver diameter the peak SPL. ; ). Lack of countersinking creates a lot of the uncomfortable nasties that people complain with the pipes... :) Yup, countersinking is of huge benefit.

Wow. You built your own phase plug? How did you calibrate it? I would love to see a video about that process!

No complex procedures... measuring tape and eyeballing until they looked "right". I did the visualization exercise: visualized how the air turbulence flows around the plug and adjusted to make it aerodynamically least obtrusive. Worked out extremely well, this speaker has fabulous tone, absolute magic with violin.

What is your opinion on stereo vs mono? Could your analogy towards multi driver speakers also be applied to stereo use of full range drivers?? Thankyou and great video !
