I have an Agilent DMM that has an OLED. The OLED in that is known for going bad in exactly the same way. Great that you got it repaired.

Seems a common technology issue then.

Is this an expensive repair, I thought that the OLEDs on the limited edition were upgraded, and you never got this problem? Glad you got it sorted now. Typically, how long do the OLEDs last, that's a relatively new radio. Thanks for posting

Hi, I asked about service life, but Yaesu UK didn’t know. Hopefully a long time 👍🏻

    Hi Ian,
If you did not have the DMU, would you have had to write down all the menu changes and then restore them one by one after the 5000 was returned? Stay safe. 73 WJ3U

Or use the Yaesu winsuite software package I think? I took pics anyway Don, so belt and braces. Lost all my SWR tune memories, so they need redoing….

Hi Ian, the original OLEDs all had the aging problem and this would accelerate if you had the brightness wound up. Pitty they didnt do it as a warrenty really since it was inherrent in the design.
if you had another 5000 would you do it your self now?

I always had mine on dim which is setting 8 I think? For the hundred quid or so I’d leave it to them and not take the risk if something stops working …..

@@ianxfs I can understand that if you do not feel confident it's very sensible to let them work on it

Great video Ian. I bet you are a happy bunny now. Wow wouldn't know where to start with all them buttons. I only have a Ft817.
Maybe thinking to ditch my efhw at home and build a DX Motters to try. Then maybe get a different sota rig with 10watts to play with. I can get as far as Finland and Spain from home 🏡
    Nice work by Yaesu 🙏🏽💪🏽

This is less about replacing OLEDS and more about photographing cabling, packing and shipping, and your replacement rig. Just not a very helpful video at all.

Hi Jeffrey. Just trying to highlight the paid option, which doesn’t seem a lot when you consider the work. I also include a link for DIY replacement if that’s what you’re after. Plus some tips on saving settings, connections etc. Didn’t help you, but may for others.
