Don't know if you've come across a YT channel called Its A Drama, but you may find it helpful, they also run a slack group for people migrating to NZ, lots of Americans and Brits on there, you'll get good advice from people that have already done it. You'll love the South Island if you like the outdoors but you will find the first year very difficult, takes time to understand a new culture, meet people, get a routine etc. I'm from Dunedin, hope you get down there for a look around one day. Good luck!
I Agree fully the mellowpuffs lol and other chocolaty goods, also don't worry to much if your money is low our government will top you up with cash,food,rent,clothes, tv,food,school,everything actually, Sorry about the few homeless asleep on the footpath they actually choose to live like that because we have free/government payed housing for every single person aswell
We are a small and very expensive country. I visited relatives in Australia in the holidays and grocery prices are so much cheaper. The average kiwi can not afford to buy a house. All the best for your move 😊❤
We're finding the cost of living to be very similar to the Seattle area where we moved from. The salaries were higher there but the prices for everything were also higher. The average American can no longer afford a house either. Groceries are definitely more pricey than they ought to be here, though. I agree! Thanks for the kind words! The move has been great so far. Having lived my whole life in Chch I can only admire your get up and go attitude. My Dad came from Scotland and fell I love with this country. Yes of course we have all the nasties that nobody wants but if you are friendly then most people are the same back to you. I have no objection to you pm with any queries etc that you may have. In any case, we can't do anything about being American. We're here partially because we don't agree with everything America has become. That said, there are wonderful people who we love in America. We're here on skilled migrant visas contributing to the NZ workforce. RUclips is a hobby and a place to keep our memories. We're glad to have kind folks along for the ride!

Welcome to the South Pacific. Even though I am Australian, I had a great grandfather who came from Whanganui in New Zealand. Australia and New Zealand have close ties and I have a strong affection for both countries. Have a wonderful journey.
Best wishes on your relocation to New Zealand. It's great that you already have experience of the country and know much of what to expect. With young children, it's the perfect time to make a move as NZ has so much to offer, not only wonderful scenary, a safe environment and active lifestyle, but you will have time to appreciate it. Work/life balance will be so much better than the US, so you will both benefit from seeing your children grow up. I'm British, but my son emigrated to Auckland with his Kiwi girlfriend, now wife, eight years ago and they now have an energetic two year old to keep them on their toes. (Financial support with daycare from age 3.) Although NZ may feel a long way from everywhere else, there's plenty of variety across the country and many Pacific islands to explore, plus Australia, of course.
There’s a lovely American lady (and her family) on YT that has plenty of helpful advice for people from the USA wanting to emigrate to NZ. She covers everything that happened to her and her family with the immigration process and settling into NZ life, work etc. Think hers is called kiwi Americans. She also lives in Welly, so definitely look her up. Welcome to NZ.

Haha! Yes! We were both pretty nervous about driving on the other side but got used to it quickly. The thing that's getting us most is turning on the wipers when we need to turn xD
You will find being kind to strangers will benefit you well in a tiny country like NZ, everyone knows everyone, if you dig deep enough. If you treat someone wrong you will likely see them again… so why would you 😂
Tena korua, nau mai haere mai... not to deter your ambition to live in NZ because, I wouldn't live anywhere else even if it was the cheapest. Like most western democratic societies NZ has it's positive and negative attributes. I hope you enjoy your stay...
