I would love to watch a second part, as mulan is one of my favourite Disney movies, too! Also, it’s so much fun to listen to the songs. I think it’s even easier to keep new vocabulary in mind if there is a familiar melody conveying the new words. Although English is not my mother tongue, I dare to disagree with you that Mushu didn’t know the difference between a horse and a cow because that would be kind of dumb, wouldn’t it? And Mushu is a lot but not dumb. No. Mulan is a story about characters that are not being appreciated for their individual talents in their society, how they start to take responsibility for themselves and others, how they are strengthening their own self esteem and overcoming weaknesses - and in the end define their role in that society on their own. I use plural here because next to Mulan as the main character we can see a similar development with Mushu besides Mushu has individual character traits. At the beginning of the story Mushu sees himself as one of 3 helpers or “guardians” of Mulan. Next to him there is the lucky charm cricket and the proud and faithful companion horse. To him, they are nothing but rivals or individuals he tries to take advantage of in order to achieve his goals. At first Mushu tries to outstand out of the others by downgrading the cricket’s and horse‘s roles. To him, it doesn’t matter whether the horse is a horse or a cow or a dog, when it’s just a dump pet next to him, who, according to himself, is worth much more. In my mother tongue“ stupid cow“ and“ silly dog“ are also common insults. Progressing the story, Mushu learns about the value of all members of the group and is making friends with Mulan, cricket and even the horse. All of them together grow together to a team as Mulan and the soldiers do.
