  • In the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus agonized in prayer as the hour approached for Him to endure the wrath of God for the sins of His people. In this sermon, R.C. Sproul continues his sermon series in the gospel of Luke and considers what Jesus’ prayer reveals about both His humanity and His deity.
This sermon was preached by R.C. Sproul at Saint Andrew's Chapel in Sanford, Fla. Hear more from his series in the gospel of Luke: • The Gospel of Luke: Se...

Over 2 days, I watched the movie, SILENCE, that came out some years ago. The theology is questionable. But it was a powerful portrayal of the persecution/torture of Christians in Japan. (Again, iffy theology, but the point was made.) I had to avoid some parts by muting the volume, covering most of the screen with my hand, and reading the captions. I can't have that in my head.
But even with all they suffered, no one in the history of the world has ever suffered as much as Jesus did. Physical and even emotional pain is one thing. What Jesus suffered was something none of us can relate to. We are sinners. We were born sinners. We have no idea what it must feel like to be sin-free, to have had unbroken fellowship with the Father for all eternity, up to this moment. To feel our sin and to feel the Father's wrath for it - I cannot even put it into words because I have no comprehension of what that must have been like for Him.
Thank You, Lord Jesus! You did that for us. You did that for ME. I deserved that. You endured it for me. Even after praising You for thousands, millions of "years" in eternity (however time is measured there) it would never be enough!

Why is it that this message gives hope to my most inner soul where messages of earthly comfortable blessings just fade and make me sleepy. I think I know the answer but the comparison sobers me.

Without Jesus as our Intercessor, we all would face what we deserve.... to have that cup poured over us, ingested by us, and soaked in it for eternity.
Thank GOD for His Son, His mercy and grace.
The ordination of pastors shouldnt be the main take away point from this sermon.

(That commenter is a troll. His endless pursuit is trying to get Christians to stop attending church. It's disgusting.)

@Yesica1993 yep, Bill has been quite faithful with his attempts at undermining the scriptures as he is commenting regularly on these weekly sermons.
