It’s 3-13-24 at 11:15 at night locked my keys in my truck. Luckily I had a the exact slim Jim bent it to your measurements and bam got it open on my second try. Video was real easy to follow. Thanks a lot!
It helped me a lot, I'm 40 miles from home and 25mi from any business, I copied the shape on a 1"x24" 2mm thick truss with a 4 ½" grinder and it worked for me. Now it doesn't close with the control but I can go where to repair it... thank you very much!
Today 3/7/2013 you saved my a** I walk to a construction zone and got a steel strap cut a half triangle and your video made it so easy it took me a couple of minutes to latch and pull the lock thank you very much my dude good bless you
I made a tool because I couldn't find my Slim Jim. I couldn't get it to unlock it just kept getting caught. Tried it today after modifying my tool. Had to cut a little off the bottom because it must not have been dropping enough to catch the hole slot. Took me 1 try and 15 seconds and I had it unlocked. Now the bad news. I was so excited I open the door to get my keys and the tool slid to the left and fell inside the door. I am surprised that happened because in the video you drop yours so you could use both hands and yours stoppped on the other side. NO PROBLEM. Just glad it is unlocked. The POS dealer wanted $104.00 just to cut a key from the vin. That was without programming. Guess that would have been another $300 . Thanks Donny.
Its a brave man who puts up a tutorial on how to unlock his own vehicle without the key! Appreciate ya , mine (thats in the driveway running right now)🤨 is a little older though and the pull is up by the interior handle. I going to give it a shot though. Thanks!
I know that this message is going to get buried in between the comments. However I want to personally thank you because I have the exact same truck and I locked my self out in target about an hour ago. I got a similar part in a small shop and I got the situation resolved. Sincerely thanks again for this step by step video.
I did not have a slim jim handy but thanks to your video, I was able to rig up a piece over silver solder & get the keys out of my truck. Awesome video
So I was trying to slim Jim my moms equinox just now, and there weren’t any yt vids showing someone slim Jim an Chevy equinox so I’m like maybe a Chevy pick up is similar? Saw that you put it right against the pillar and unlocked my moms car instantly thanks man
Dude...thank you! My key fob battery died while I was at work today and I leave the actual key in the truck for convenience. Took 30 seconds to unlock after watching the video.👍
This worked great! Locked my keys in my 2008 denali today, was about to wedge the door, break thru the door seals with a coat hanger, just do all kinds of unwanted damage, happened onto this video while trying to figure it out, went to hardware store, bent the slim jim as indicated, and with one min, door open, alarm sounding, etc... thank you so much, 10 thumbs up!!!
This worked amazinggggg! Your measurements helped me make one out of an old metal ruler cause I couldn’t find a slim Jim online. Took me 10 seconds to open the door, took 5 min to make the tool
thanks - saved me hours of buggering around, and technique was bang on! thanks for showing door panel that helped a lot and just waiting for it to click into place - soon as i felt that - boom THANK YOU - now just tell me how to stop it rusting and gain value and i'll be golden LMAO
Thank you so much, this video really pulled through for me✊ called my dad to try to ask him and his only advice was don’t scratch the paint on his car😑 so this was such a big help especially the panel that comes off and the bend of the slim Jim was perfect!
Thanks for the video January 10,2021 after watching your video I open my 2007 Chevy Tahoe in less than 1 minute. The bend on the end of the slim Jim is the ticket. Thanks again
Very comprehensive and well done tutorial!(Extra kudos for taking the panel off and showing how the slim jim grabs the linkage)I have a lot of respect for folks who still open cars using in the door tools(As opposed to being lazy and using a long reach tool for everything)
Thank you sir! Just locked myself out of my truck changing my brake switch. It's 5 degrees F and the engine was running. Luckily I was in my driveway and my slim Jim kit was in the garage. Depth on my 2000 GMC sierra 1500 was a little deeper but in the same spot. 🫡
You'd love to have seen this. I pulled up in the liquor store parking lot and there sits a pickup nearly identical to mine. All sorts of guys gathered around it, all big boys and one of them trying unsucessfully to get that door open on that Silverado with a slim jim. I walked up to the crowd, reached through all these guys, stuck my door key into his pickup and opened it, pulled my key back and walked away. They were all standing there just staring at me. I doubt there's more than half a dozen keys for all those millions of pickups. Be sure and try the keys of all your friends if you can.
@@Donnythelatemodeltech I've opened my door with my ignition key jiggling it. Opened it with another key that was neither one. Used to start my dad's 64 Biscayne with my 55 Chevy pickup key. Amazing how worn locks can be jiggled open with any similar key. My 2000 Silverado has been opened with 4 different keys, and like I said, the ignition key. You can open nearly any door or ignition with the same make key if you take some time and feel it out. When I was a kid a quarter would clean out a vending machine. I'd take orders from my friends. Cold drink machines were a bit harder. I finally learned theft is theft but when you're a tween it was just defeating a lock for fun.
Didn't have a slim jim, but I used the same methods with a wire hanger. After a few attempts I was able to get it unlocked. So easy a caveman can do it
This is a 97 thunder bird supdevill coop that has electricity windows and push buttons for your door locks and I don't know alot about using a slimjim so if you can make your own choices in which part of the door that is what best suits to use the slimjim to get into the car with the best possible way
Awesome!! My husband and I tried everything. Then a friend had a kit. I decided to watch some videos and came across yours. I got it unlocked in less than 5min. Thank you so much!!
It took longer to watch the video than to open my truck up. And the slim Jim is cheaper than the spar key cost. Now I’m a pro at getting in my truck. Thanks again dude
I've used this video twice successfully. Maybe it's time to get a spare key or teach my dog how NOT to lock the vehicle when exiting. Thanks for the great instructions!
@@Donnythelatemodeltech I own three. And yes..more of a love-hate. Older models I love..but they eventually will just not be repairable. The newer models I absolutely hate. They are DOA. VERY poor design and assembly. But that's just my 2 cents. Your mileage may vary!

Opened up my truck with the help of this instructional video.
It took me longer to find the painters tape than open this truck. Thanks a TON!

It's not anyone else's fault but yours that you are too ham-handed to remove the piece without breaking it.
