È un gruppo incredibile e Patricia è la ciliegina sulla torta! Ho assistito dal vivo ad un loro concerto ed ho avuto la conferma di quanto ho appena dichiarato!!!
Love this song! What a fantastic group of musicians! This song only serves to remind me of why I love bass sooooo much! Thanks for sharing! Patricia Barber is such an inspiration!

Gosh, lot of talented men for a Ladies Jazz Festival. Could be, music transcends all gender, cultural and other boundaries and takes us to ecstasy. Especially with singers as lovely as this.
Ik zag haar in Gent in een rustige kleinere zaal. Het was heel warm en de zon scheen in haar ogen. Niemand van de leiding deed moeite om dat te verhelpen.
I just loved the original so much. I guess I'll have to listen harder and try to appreciate this kind of rendition? Apologies to Patricia Barber and the band.
First of all, great stuff.... I wouldn't have commented anything if it wasn't for James C. We are all entitled to our own opinion. After reading all the comments, two things come to mind: somebody has made an effort to jump all over James, because someone did not like his comments. What I don't understand is why are you James so sensitive to those personal attacks on you? We all perceive music differently, somebody's treasure is someone else's junk. I liked what I heard from the group, liked the bass solo and light Patricia's voice, I felt the group was tight. James, just go-ahead and post your opinion, but don't be so sensitive to what others think about your opinion. Peace!!
@basiamielnikcmt Are they still playing there? I used to go there every Monday night from 1997 - 2000. I kind of wish she'd bring John McLean on guitar for these gigs. It was so fun watching him -- he had a crazy left foot that would walk itself around the stage while he sat and played. Montzka was a blast to watch when he cuts loose.
Thanks Ripper, I love Jazz , I love Meaningfull improvisation, improvisation that , well says SOMETHING, this self indulgent nonsense says NOTHING.Measured phrases in a mishmash of sounds - No Soul...
Great, fluid sound. In Oz a luthier has some crafted versions on standby for travellers... www.abc.net.au/news/2016-06-06/meet-melbourne-luthier-benedict-puglisi/7483418 facebook.com/ABC730/videos/10154273856749516/
The bass solo was his interpretation of the song, so by that definition you can't say it's good or bad. You don't understand it, so naturaly you say it's not related and it's shit. You're a typical jazz listener, who doesn't quite get what it's all about.
This is too self indulgent.Who are they playing for? Are they playing for themselves, the other band members , the audience, fellow jazz musicians to impress with their technical expertise or what.
I quite like the piece but really can't say anything good about the improv at the start... The look on Patricia's face as if she were (repeatedly) saying to him "Really? You haven't STFU yet? O_o" sais it all. Pity, the rest is great
Funny? Personal insults; the bitter refuge of the intellectually bereft , and in the case of the supremely ignorant NYCBG ( New York City"s Biggest Goose) the musically deaf.
I am really asking a question , not just making a comment. It's clear to me that NYCBG has no idea what they are saying , just as the musicians don't really know how to express the tune despite all their "COOL" expertise. The Bass soloist plays a myriad of notes , mostly out of the key and none of which are in any way related to the subsequent performance. So What?
Poxy, I don't believe you have ever cared for anyone but yourself. If you did , you would try for a meaningfull, critical, musical comment and not just insult someone for their opinion.Then again, you clearly don't have the intellect to look at the "music" objectively.
@Abrash1965 I don't see Bill WIthers version that way at all - the man is more than okay with being "used". If it feels this good getting used/ keep on using me until you use me up. No anger, and not just resignation. just my 2cents.

Pat has always been ahead of her time, this tune is classic deep!

What characterises her music is its enchanting and intimate musicality.

I liked the Bass solo, especially him returning to that somewhat discordant low note once in a while.
The expression on her face...is this bass solo ever going to end???

@emu0404usb
Thanks!
@doctorclarkable I know it wasn't your intention, but this has got to be one of the funniest comments on RUclips
Wow, he can make those crappy Santana LP bongos sound great.
@chauntzu
just google "Volante bass"
gotta say the doctor is right here. I see a bunch of wild notes for wild notes sake.
Aaahhh the doctor sees, while everybody else experiences music through a very different channel - must be
a DNC doctor !!!
What kind of EUB is that???
There is no sound on this video
@Thefaze100963 nope.
