I remember my teacher reading this story to us in class way back in the early 80's. Towards the end, she was crying so hard, she almost didn't finish it. I still remember this tale with great fondness. Fondness for the characters and story, but most of all, fondness for my childhood which I enjoyed (though it was less than perfect) while it was there, and which I miss (adulthood now is a BOUNTIFUL FEAST OF MISERY) now that it's gone....
I read that story for a final in my english class, I cried in class at the end where Doodle dies, My brother is exactly like Doodle and has the same problems. I am still sad because of that story and yet, i'm still crying.
Man, the ending was sad. Even though it was kinda sketchily played out. Maybe the author could've shown doodle dieing. Did he fall and die, or did he run to much and have internal bleeding? Our class couldn't figure it out.
I thought this book was boring haha. xD read it last year, one of the most boring books ever, then again, nearly every book/story you red for school is boring. :P
