omg.. I have a 2004 ….. just did my clutch pressure plate and throwout bearing.. this video was so helpful. did mine and now im off to virginia to see my grand kids. Thanks a million for the video..
Awesome! There is something that seems to be missed often in most replacements. The clutch slave cylinder, "delay valve" that is installed in both the 2.0, and 2.7 has an inherent problem with introducing additional, (and unneeded) clutch slip. It is great for a newbie that isn't familiar with driving a manual, but its terrible with anyone with past manual transmission driving experience. This little $5.00 part, causes premature clutch wear. I bought a 2004 Tiburon 2.0, when the car was 1 1/2 years old with 16K on it and noticed Immediately during my test drive the clutch was engaging, but with an odd and noticeable delay. It felt smooth, but lifeless. After driving manual transmissions for years, I knew something was odd. Simple as a clutch master cylinder and slave are, I suspected the problem was in that area. I was correct, and almost went into my clutch slave (easiest to look at first) to inspect. Went online and another gentleman had found the issue just a little before I did. I removed the little spring and small valve in the clutch slave, and it completely restored clutch feel, and engagement/disengagement. I also know, (being a longtime mechanic) that the delay causes slip, and the slip causes excess heat on the flywheel (warping it), and of course eventually ruins the friction plate. I just thought I would mention this odd but very easy way to improve the life of the clutch on the Tiburon. Loved your attention to detail in your video! :)
Hey its Elijah the guy you sold the Tiburon 2004 to, I lost your phone number and I happened to find you in this comment section lol. I was wondering if you know if my car has ever been repainted? I recently bought touch up paint and the color didn't match so i sent it back to be fixed, and it hasn't been sent back yet. But now i'm wondering if it was the right paint because my side "gills" match a piece I test painted.
Hi Gary, thank you for your quick response. About your question, definitely yes, I did it with the tip of my fingers and it feels spongy just like you said it.
I am performing this job on a 2004 tibby gt this weekend coming up.... thanks for the insight. ...hopefully a smooth install... I'm installing the aimco xtd stage 2 clutch and solid one piece chromoly 12lbs lightened flywheel and doing away with the junk dual mass flywheel. .. first clutch from factory lasted 100k miles... ford replaced it and the second one only lasted 50k this time....I suspect the throw-out bearing is DONE...
I know this was posted a long time ago but hopefully you guys still view comments on the older videos. Was it determined what caused the squeaking/creaking noise and feeling when pressing the clutch in? You mentioned it while talking about the slave cylinder early in the video and I was wondering what needs to be done to fix that as well as what causes that noise. Thanks and great video!
This is a very good video but we're missing a few important steps in the beginning.like the rest of how to remove it. does the engine have to come out ? do you have to remove the Axel's? Is this something you can do in your driveway do you have to have a cherry picker and a lift?
Very good presentation and photo work. Would this be a possible backyard, ramp, possible job. I've had a clutch replacement and the dual mass is the biggest cost. This time around (being retired) I'd like to do something less expensive and "Do It Myself" if possible. P.S. at 173,000 I guess my clutch deserves some rebuilding and replacement.
i have an 04 Tiburon getting the clutch replaced in it. Mechanic has had it for 2 weeks amd still counting. This job is definitely a chore for this kinds car.
i am working on mine now amd i camt seem to get the clutch to come out it just doesnt seem to have enough room to move its all loose but tge sub frame is in the way
Perfectionclutch, got questions what is the purpose for having a dual mass flywheel, why didn't hyundai use the traditional solid flywheel instead? Also what are you using to support the motor on top when you remove the 3 mounts holding the transmission to the k frame when removing the transmission? To me its impossible to slip the transmission from the bottom because of the k frame in the way and if you take the k frame off first all the mounts mounting the tranny to it comes off as well then you have nothing holding the motor from falling to the ground. What i did on my 03 tiburon 2.7 6 speed clutch installation i pulled the whole motor off with the transmission out with an engine hoist only way i can do the clutch removal and installation.
Aw nuts Gary, Just like the 1999 Hyundai video you didn't show any of the reinstall of the trans. We're hung up on getting the thing to seat the whole way in. No amount of twisting, pivoting or cursing is getting it on this 2002 elantra we're trying to put back together. We don't want to use the trans mounting bolts to get it to merry up...and with one guy under and one over it is not going in...any ideas?
I know I’m 6 years late on this but I’m desperate to get my clutch fixed, how did you remove the transmission? All I seen was you removing the release arm and then you pulled the transmission out, I didn’t see anything else you did to take it out
With regards to the master Cylinder.. If you install it too long then and pressure is still holding on the system... Does that mean that the clutch is still partially engaged? O.o .. Could it cause it to slip then?.. Sry trying to make sense of it cos my clutch is slipping and the car has had a new clutch.
I have a 2005 Tiburon GT v6 5 speed and let's say when I shift to third gear and then push the gas, the RPM shoots up oddly high! Happens when I step on the gas (as if my foot was on the clutch). Do I need to replace my clutch? Thanks in advance!
Hi there, I have a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT V6. They barely put a new clutch, first day worked OK but next day doesn't want to shift gears, none. You can switch gears when it's off but when it's on you can't. I tried to start the car with the gear on, it did but it made a really bad noise and it didn't move so I turned it off. What could be the problem?
@@perfectionclutch my just started doing the same , I had to turn off the car just to put it in gear once I get going I was able to shift to 3 and any other gear without a problem but if I went to neutral I could shift out without turning off the car, also the clutch doesnt feel like it use to , it feels lighter and doesnt bounce back like it use to as in no force to come up
@@perfectionclutch it's an 03 tiburon gt 6speed manual 2.7 engine, I tried bleeding the master cylinder and the clutch went straight down and got stuck when I opened the bleeder valve
hi i need to ask after i bleed the system with the open master knob you know i can push the slave backwards and i close it i can after that bleed it again or not? because i bleed it in the way of the video then i close it and put somebody inside the car and push the pedal for bleed it but i do that in close position knob...
Perfectionclutch, let me get this straight so the total ft pound torque on the flywheel bolts is 55 ft lbs? And the total ft lb torque for the clutch pressure plate is 19 ft lbs? I bought the clutch kit with the solid flywheel for my 03 tiburon gt 2.7 6 speed tranny and i need to know if those are the right torque specs.
I just did an engine swap and new clutch on an 03 tiburon fir my brother. In this video he says to position the clip/ring on the clutch so it has the opening at the bottom so the bearing clips in. When we did ours we couldn’t figure out how to get the ring to spin to an position besides where it was. It was somewhat towards the bottom but it was more to one side than the other. In the video he says he does it to make it easy, but not that it’s absolutely necessary so I installed anyway. Now I have it completelty back together besides the slave and such because I tried to push the lever back like he shows to lock the bearing in and I could t seem to get it to click in. I’m really hoping I do t have to pull this thing out again and someone confirms to me that the ring does t have to be exactly at the bottom. Maybe I just need to push harder, like with a hammer or something to help apply more pressure? Any help would be greatly appreciated. He’s about to junk the car out because he can’t see if it runs. Thanks
Really nice video, I just have a question I got an 08 Tiburon with the 2.0L engine would it be the same process to install or is the trans axle different?
You seem like a knowledgable goto guy. Say for example your labor rate is $60 an hour and i needed my entire 6 speed transmission and entire clutch package replaced, i supply my own parts, how much would i be looking at just on total labor?
thought I saw transaxle installed while changing clutch in one of your Hyundai videos. you have to remove both, correct. getting ready to work on a friends and am using your videos as a guide. can I call the 800 number if I need help?
I replaced my master and slave, and I went to start bleeding before hooking the slave up to the release arm. The pedal will not go down unless the bleeder valve is open.
04 Tiburon gtv6. The day I bought it, when driving it home I could start smelling the clutch and I became unable to shift gears. I paid someone to replace the clutch, TOB, and flywheel, and when they finished the pedal would just hit the floor. I decided to replace the leaky slave and master cylinders. I tried to bleed the clutch but pedal won't go down unless the bleeder valve is open. Could this be an issue with a ton of air in the system, an issue with the fluid transfer between master and slave, or a new and defective part? One thing I noticed s that the plunger end of the slave cylinder is pretty difficult to push in, and it pushes itself back out. We had trouble getting the brake line that connects the two off of the master. We had to use a wrench to pry it off but it seemed to go back on fine.
perfectionclutch I actually saw that and did that last night! I never hooked the slave back up to the arm, I figured it should work first before connecting the arm to it. After replying a couple hours ago I wondered what would happen if I hooked it up all the way and before I left for work did just that. Now it seems to work fine! Your fix last night did the trick, the slave was indeed extended at rest before I did that night last. I must have been wrong thinking that it should work fine to bleed without being fully attached. There is just a little extra resistance when pushed in all the way which may just be because it needs bled now. I'm a total virgin with car repair so this is all new to me. I guess I fixed it last night thanks to your video and my own noob ass just didn't realise it cause of my own mistakes. You've hands down got the best Tiburon video I've been able to find. why the bolts for the solid flywheel werent the same as the dual mass? (the 8 bolt in the center) pls answer me :)
Can the clutch be changed whilst the motor is out of the car? Is there a level of difficulty added or taken away?

how do you get the bearing off the off of the pressure plate if you accidentally pushed it into it before hand .

Slightly different fitments. You'll want to consult a shop manual for the specific differences.
