I enjoyed the video. I'm getting a caravan soon (first timer) and a bit nervous because I've never towed before but this video has reassured me. I was told by my father (who used to tow caravans and horseboxes all the time) to keep an eye on the extended mirrors and use them to gauge road position/spacing and work on the basis that if the mirrors don't hit the hedge or wall then the caravan shouldn't either.
Well done. You made it. I think you both sounded really calm. I remember being soooo nervous towing for the first time. I was sweating, and my heart was racing. Can't wait to see a video of your 1st trip out in it. Congratulations.
The Trudgians- thanks Dan great compliments, thank you. It's great to look forward but nice to be reminded of our memories isn't it. So glad you enjoyed it
How exciting and scary at the same time. I know how you feel. We're swapping from a small 2 birth lunar stellar to, what is for me, a huge 5 birth bailey pageant and I'm dreading going through lanes but you did brilliant!
I remember that excitement although it was a long time ago now. You will love it! Let me know how it goes. You have so much to look forward to. ..although we now have a motorhome I loved our caravan time and there was so much to learn. My only advice would be: get away every opportunity you have. Enjoy and keep smiling ~ Lin
How lovely for you. You will make some wonderful memories for sure. Just take you time the first time towing and you will be fine. Let me know how it goes. ~ Lin
That new van tow is always nerve wracking - I collected my new one from Leicester and then had to carry on down to Bedfordshire. A bit bum twitchy but it behaved impeccably
David Bell - this comment really made me laugh. Our half our journey seemed like an eternity, so dread to think what yours felt like!? Many thanks - Lin
Going to pick up my elddis crusader twin axle tomorrow gonna be fun trying to drive it back from stone henge to dover fingers crossed all goes well. Be my second time towing after car and trailer
How exciting for you! I remember this so clearly. I'd not long had a devastating stroke and wondered if I'd even be able to step into a caravan let alone buy it. (We'd just put a deposit down just before my stroke). Several weeks later (after the dealership had so kindly kept it for us) we got to tow it. Unfortunately it was sensory overload for my injured brain and I found it too difficult to tour so we put it on a seasonal pitch for 3 years.... and the recovery and wonderful times and aguments continued. If you want to follow our journey please subscribe to the videos. Just take your time with the tow and you will be fine. You will have some wonderful times and memories to look back on. I'm so glad I recorded mine. Good luck with your adventures and let me know how it goes ~ Lin xx
@@HomefromHomewithLinRich well we went and picked the caravan up in Salisbury lovely drive back and a mile from home the engine in car decided to go out with a bang so now looking for a replacement tow car but these things are ment to try us lol
@@kedileepagett4092 oh no! What terrible news! So how did you get the caravan back?? Or was where you were towing it to a different place from home? ....and how did you get back home?
@@HomefromHomewithLinRich sorry for the late reply managed to get an old mate to put caravan in his yard and got car back home. Borrowed my friends discovery sdv6 today and got it home so now looking for one of those to tow it with. Holiday on hold for time being
@@kedileepagett4092 sorry to hear you have had a rough time of it. Sometimes these things are sent to try us so that when we eventually get to where we are going we appreciate them that much more. Hey Lin & Rich another enjoyable video & I’m sure all your viewers are feeling the excitement for you & with you. Would be good to see a review of your armored cover if that is the correct model also have you thought of an E&P leveling system ?
Thanks so much. Trying at long last to catch up with comments. Yes thats a good idea about the cover but we are on a seasonal pitch so the caravan isnt being moved at the moment. We have thought about it but our pockets said NO lol ~ Lin
Hi, I see you used Cranham on the A127 and it looks like you towed it back to store at their other site. I've seen van there I was wondering what thoughts you had about their pre and after sales service.
Cranhams were fantastic when we bought. We put a deposit down a couple of weeks before I had my stroke. They held that caravan there in storage for us with no strings attached to see if we would be able to buy it. They stayed in touch to see how i was with no pressure to pay rest of money. They said If I was left too incapacitated they would give us our deposit back but to take our time on the decision. Wow who in this day and age does that? It was such a happy day when we picked the caravan up. Everyone, not just me worked so hard to make it happen! As for after sales .....We had our caravan on a seasonal pitch so we had the caravan service done privately so i couldnt tell you what their after sales is like other than a few parts we have bought from them which they ordered direct from manufacturers. Hope this helps ~ Lin
Sorry for the delay in writing you've probably found out by now how easy it is to fit. It was an extremely cold day when we picked up the caravan and I didn't have the use of my arm after my stroke so we were somewhat disadvantaged with our first attempt. Its been great ever since ~ Lin
How exciting. Yes it is scary for sure and I still hate the towing part. There will be a video about this soon so keep watching. Have fun in your adventures and let me know how it goes - Lin
Not impressed with the hand over when you picked up your van - "here's your key - go find it yourself" Nice vids though - looking forward to catching up with the rest of them =D
Ha ha, oh dear it does look a bit like that doesn't it. We actually had the hand over the day before, they very kindly let us leave it there as we had arranged for a chap to fit our motor mover at home the next day (we coudn't leave it on the road overnight as we live on a tiny road) That way he could fit the mover in the morning and we could take it to storage in the afternoon.
It was a Shogun Elegance Long Wheel Base. And I think it was a 2.5 turbo Diesel I think?. We haven't had it for a while now so I'm going from memory and thats not very good lol ~ Lin
Thanks for watching. It’s strange how this video has had over 48,000 views and nobody has ever given us a bad comment. If you watched other videos you would know why I was in this excitable nervous state. I survived a devastating stroke and had to work so hard to be able to walk again so we could drive away the caravan we had bought from the dealers three months before. It is probably the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life!~ Lin
@@HomefromHomewithLinRich Sorry,I got the impression you was driving, anyway,I wish you both,a Happy Christmas, with it's true meaning, and a new year with good health joy,and peace, from the One that was born on Christmas day, long ago.

Looks identical to my 2006 Shogun Elegance LWB and that has the 3.2 Diesel engine, I think the 2.5 was fitted to the earlier models.
