$3900 USD for watch people with some coin is actually quite reasonable.
      BTW...
I would like to see Tudor kill the Glamor, Advisor, classic lines, clair de rose and 1926; those are shit watches...absolute dog shit and there are much better choices elsewhere for similar money. I would also like to see them get rid of the BB 32/36/41 and the BBS&G simply because these aren't good extensions of the sports lineup.
From there I would like to see a BB58 GMT (Coke so no clashing with BLRO), a BB58 Bronze, BBs with matching dial color to bezel color (red dial, blue dial, green dial), black ceramic North Flag with rubber strap, lolly pop hand version of the BB Chrono and finally a 36mm Tudor Submariner (Lollypop Hands) in black and blue (dial color matches the bezel colors and P01 crown).

It's a hell of a lot of money if you compare it to a Steinhart pro that is pretty damn close in fit, finish and quality. It's even more expensive if you've been into watches long enough to remember when a Tudor Submariner was a $350 watch advertised in Guns & Ammo...

    • @eco8gator
      @eco8gator 5 лет назад +1

@@ChefPelle You used to be able to get Rolex Red Submariners for under 1k... There are many watch brands out there that can machine a chunk of metal and throw a movement in it and be of ok quality...but that isn't the point. If you are ok with any hunk of metal with a movement in it then get whatever floats your boat. If you want a hunk of metal with an in-house chronometer movement, with a solid reputation, with pedigree and with historical significance then you'll have to pay more and considering the state of things today 3900 isn't much for a luxury watch.

An in-house movement that's actually a stripped down Breitling B01 with zero finishing and decoration, a reputation of having a lot of warranty claims and a constant aura of "it's owned by Rolex"? To be honest, in reality, it's much closer to a Steinhart than it is to a Rolex. If it wasn't for the fact that it was related to Rolex it would be a $2000 watch at best.

When I first saw it online I was repulsed by the P01. I went into my AD two weeks ago and the owner showed me a P01 he had just gotten in. Looking at it in the display case it still didn't impress me. Once I put it on I was mesmerized. I have never seen a watch that so comes alive once it is on the wrist. I thought about it for a week and bought it yesterday. It is undeniably cool and will become a cult classic. My favorite thing is the finish. It looks rough cut and you can see striations in the metal. It is a very industrial, semi-finished look that is very appealing.

Its true the watch World found the P01 hard to like let alone love, but like many watches we are all to quick to form opinions before actually seeing the watch in person Adrian...my wife who wears a rotation of AP's & Rolex was instantly drawn to the Tudor P01. Also, she has not worn a watch on a leather strap in 25 years, she wanted one & because of everything I was hearing in the community I was very reluctant to pull the trigger on buying her one...but I pulled the trigger with our AD & she loves it, she thinks it is the perfect watch for weekends in jeans when shopping, for having coffee with friends or walking the dogs...she loves the unique look, style & design (my daughters both like it as well & I must admit so do I).

I’m not the kind of person who gravitates to the off beat. You know, that person who also seems to have a need to be different. That’s not me. But even so, there is nothing in this material world that everyone agrees is good or bad. Not in any context of value, such as beauty, art, cost, location, etc. So everyone has a right to their opinion for sure. So here’s mine. The watch intrigued me when I first saw pictures. I know that pics often make a watch look better than it does in real life and in my opinion most of the time it does the opposite. It fails to show the true physical presence and dimensionality and the watch looks better in real life. But ‘better’ doesn’t necessarily mean ‘good’.
    I don’t like the watch...I love it.
Not because I browsed the internet but because I own it and wear it. If I went by pics alone there’s a plainness that with the off center crown and hanging lugs makes it look like it’s trying too hard to be different. I get that. But if you haven’t seen it in person or worn it then your harsh and absolute opinion is frankly worthless. Perhaps valued by marketeers seeking public opinion, but not by true collectors or enthusiasts.
The Matt black dial is beautiful, the off white makers and date give it a nice vintage feel. The way the light bounces off the bezel teeth is really sublime and the teeth themselves are uncommon if not downright unique. My wrist is 7.5” and it wears very well. The swinging lugs make the strap drape nicely on the wrist in an almost fashionable way that is very comfortable. That and the quality strap which is both supple and sturdy make it ‘extremely’ comfortable. In the video you can see how it wears well on Adrian’s wrist and he also remarks somewhat surprisingly how ‘wearable’ it is. Even though you get a sense that he doesn’t personally care much for it.
For those of you who dismiss the crown at 4:00 and complain it looks like a Seiko, just stop the ignorance. Remark, yes. But ‘complain and rant’? Get over yourselves. Seiko is not the only one to do this (e.g. the old Gerard Perregaux Seahawk line). Every design aspect of a watch (and anything else for that matter) has always had a first. But eventually others acknowledge a design element well done and adopt it for themselves as well. There’s no sin in that. Are you going to complain about a date window at 3:00 or a three hand movement? Get over it. You either like it or don’t and you don’t have to justify it because it reminds you of a Seiko. Btw, I have Seiko watches as well as high end watches and good is good at any price point.
Lastly, for the hater(s) who like to bash You Tubers as one of you did here for Adrian. When you can do what Adrian does and as well as he does maybe a well chosen and objective criticism will be appreciated. Maybe. But otherwise your keystrokes are like pissing in the pool. Simply disgusting, pretty quickly filtered and soon after forgotten.
PS I don’t need others to like this watch. In fact I kinda like that I won’t see many others wearing it. I just want like minded enthusiasts who are curious about this watch to see it for themselves before making a final evaluation and ‘absolute’ judgement.

So 2 years later, are the opinions that this is an investment piece (yes yes, I know we shouldn’t be buying for investment)? I saw this in a Tudor AD yesterday and it’s highly tempting but didn’t go for it. I do like it’s quirkiness but thought I’d spend a night or two researching first as I know less about Tudors vs Rolexes. Looking at Chrono24, it doesn’t seem like value-wise it’s an investment although I imagine for a niche group, it still may be a collector’s piece. The strap will need to go though and I’ve seen some bracelet mods. If I did buy it, you can be sure I’d definitely take it diving.

Admittedly, this watch has grown on me. However, don't you think they should have used an elapsed time bezel instead of a 12-hour bezel? I think that would serve the military aspect more than having a 2nd time zone. I guess this is one of those details that could have made this watch really great, but it has design features that don't make complete sense or keep it from being fully utilized as it's supposed design purpose.

I loved the watch when it came out, but there was a issue of similar Rolex coming in auction and Rolex told they don’t have anything like this in their archives

What I don't really understand about watches like this that are supposed to be for utility, is why a mechanical movement?
I mean if you're strictly going for utility, ease of use and "wearability" wouldn't a quartz watch be better for that? especially for use in the military?
Before I get roasted for even mentioning quartz, what I'm trying to say here is I feel like mechanical watches are kind of meant to be novelty in this day and age. I don't mean that in a bad way or anything, But as in mechanical movements are more suited for flashy/beautiful watches that are more of an art piece rather than a tool. I guess what Im trying to say is, this watch (and watches like it) seem to me like using a steam engine in a commuter car. Or maybe like using a Curta calculator in a finance job crunching numbers all day.

This watch was made in the late 60s. The first quartz movement was released by Seiko in 1969. So to answer your question regarding just the P01...the quarts movement was not out yet so the used a mechanical movement.

Great review, Adrian! Exactly right that it's great looking from the bezel inward! I do think, however, that the Ploprof is intrinsically cool looking and can be worn for style and for admirable eccentricity. The P01 though, nah.

I think it looks cool- I’m considering a black bay, saw it online and looked it up on RUclips straight away. The strap thing doesn’t bother me. If you’re thinking of beating the hell out of it, you can buy a NATO strap for $40 online.

Yeah thought the same thing, don’t like the metal extensions there but I like the face and dial. It’s a deal breaker for me. Kind of Invictaish, where it seems overdone.

I'd rather have the P01 then the new two tone gold Sea Dweller, that's for sure.

I absolutely love it ! But then I’m the one with a collection of Seiko Tuna dive watches, and my everyday watch is a Tudor North Flag. I guess I’m just drawn toward the aesthetic of “tool” watches as apposed to more formal “dress” watches.

Tudor have been seriously shaking up the market in the last few years. If they continue on this upward trajectory they will have the execs at big brother Rolex looking over their shoulders.

A black rubber strap would not make more sense as a tool watch, but I think also would genuinely help aesthetically

as of last weekend the ad still has one in the case new,i thought for sure it would have sold out due to its quirky style like the rolex airking that i was lucky enough to get at the same dealer but this watch as cool as it is i dont see it wanted much. ebay is loaded with them , next

Fully agree that it's hard to pass comments on watch you haven't experienced in the flesh. With the exception of the new Zenith Chronomaster Sport though, then it's actually super easy, barely an inconvenience 😉

I’m confused, you say the competition was weak, but aren’t the BB Fifty-Eight and the BB GMT under $4,000? Both of those are great watches, and highly regarded by most watch guys.

Floatlite is my favourite watch collector 100%👍 he likes watches from Swatch to Patek which is refreshing. The Tudor is a minger but I would rather have something different than put my name on a stupid Rolex waiting list. Always had a soft spot for a Ploprof and this is in the same vain. I'm tempted to get one myself. Floatlite has some really cool pieces and he buys what he likes and not the boring clone stuff that's constantly regurgitated on the interweb. If you're starting a RUclips channel more of this please👍
