i just was updating fallout 76 for e battle pass update he remembered My Game boy (i lost the charger D:) ss the last game i watched on youtube about the games i owned it was Super mario land Monster max then this
Yeah ha ha me too banana yellow stands out to 90,s kids that cartridge for some reason i used to my gameboy pocket every where and I thought toy story looked so good on it
About that storyline, crankey kong was better off to give donkey & diddy kong a B&W go pro camera and redo that adventure all over again, then he should sell that footage to a movie company to earn more money or bananas!!
I was always amazed they were able to cram a full Donkey Kong Country port on the Gameboy...Considering the game length and limitations of the graphics, developers at Rare were still able to nail it! I got this and Link's Awakening as my first 2 gameboy games on Christmas day and instantly loved the system and it's well diversed library.
I remember when i bought the gameboy pocket along with donkeykong land 1 and supermarioland 1 back in 1999,but everytime i wanted to play,i couldn’t get it startup up,well it turned out that those battery’s were dying,BUT i just decided to trade it in for a gameboycolor instead because i was curious how those games would look in color, and oh boy i remember once i was getting home and started up donkeykong land,i was mind blown away by it’s colorized graphics the jungle and ice levels just seemingly looked as they were supposed to look like, and then a few day’s later i popped in supermarioland and oh man i was again just mind blown away because it looked much better in color then it did on the supergameboy, and to this day i still love the gameboycolor and i do have golden memories of it😁
Goddam cutting onions and the feeling of Nostalgia.. Wow.. I remember i've spent countless of hours playing this with my older brother back when we were kids! This is insane that i could still remember the name of the game and to even remember the songs in my head damn.. The 90's were the best
Hearing this music and these sound effects for the first time in 15 years awoke something long-dormant in me and put the biggest shit-eating grin on my face (I last saw/heard/played this game when I was 6, I'm 21 now). It's all coming back to me, how awesome this game was. I've got to buy a Game Boy (preferably a GBA SP) and this game, like NOW.
This brings back so many memories. I used to have this game when I was about 4 or 5, it was one of my first games growing up. Thank you so much for uploading this!
I like donkeykong land but the hit detection is ackward, first off when you hit a gremlin ,he bounces off really high ,secondly you cannot hit 2 gremlins atonce ,the hit detection doesn’t allow this, wich is stupid because in donkeykong you can hit multiple gremlins atonce!!!
I had killer instinct and donkey Kong land for ganeboy back in 1995. The best part was if you played game boy killer instinct with the super game boy adaptor for the super Nintendo, you could play 2 players!
@@OriasX innit, Killer Instinct on GB was Siick! Best but was the combos were the same for console as game boy so I’d train on GB and Dominate on console.
Wonderful game, spent so much time playing this as a kid, never completed it back then. Recently picked it up again and finally completed it, that feeling..
Thank you very much for uploading this! It brings unique memories. I remember playing the game for days and days when I was very little and dying like an idiot over and over again, especially in World 3. I found the underwater levels the most scary and the cloud levels most beautiful ones. I thought that the saving checkpoint looked like a bee, hahaha. And I called the hopping enemies vampires.
I never understood why this game never shows the levels names cause like in Donkey Kong fashion, the level names are very fun and clever..my favorites are "Oil Drum Slum", "Deck Trek", "Kremlantis" and "Construction Site Fight"
Este fue m,i primer videojuego , recuerdo que me lo gane con chabelo ( un programa de tv de Mexico ) cuando tenia como 5 años :) , es de los mjeores y mas felizes recuerdos que tenga , se te agradece mucho haber subido el video !
Thank you so much for making this gameplay! I do have a gameboy and Donkey Kong Land 1 and that game is sort of hard but not anymore because of you and the video.
I remember having this as a kid being the huge DKC fan I was. I was liking it... until 3-5. If I were to play this today it'd probably not give me so much trouble but as a very young kid constantly jumping with the damn platform constantly changing directions, bumping into walls and having to change it back just left me confused and frustrated, and that combined with the enemies/obstacles in the way I'd constantly get killed getting hit by something or just falling off the the thing altogether. That level was the last straw for me with this game. I stopped playing it altogether after that. In fact I remember being frustrated at a GB game so much around that time that I punched the screen, which left a crack behind, and I think it was that level that did it, ha.
I like how the plot of the game is Donkey and Diddy Kong showing that good gameplay is all they need on the Game Boy, but in reality the game is remembered for its nice graphics and sound but not the gameplay.
I remember when these were the best graphics around, I was so impressed by them. Also 47:35 - that cloud level music I will always remember for all my life. Sooo much nostalgia. Thank you for uploading this!
Woow Nostalgia i rememberers with a big white fat console game boy when it summer time, and nobody to play with i had to spend hours playing this game just amazing
Rareware to Nintendo: "When are you going to let us port Donkey Kong Country to your Gameboy?" Nintendo: "When pigs fly..." Then we have those at 53:20
This game was the dark souls of my child hood, loved pumping this game out on my old gb , it’s still as difficult as I remember Level 2 was such a pain
The music in this game is awesome. I still own the game for my original Gameboy but I never completed it, I could never get past the sky levels with the platforms. I found this game pretty difficult. Nice play through though, you made this game look easy. :)
I played this game at 1 year old it’s been 12 years and this game still makes me feel the same joy as before when I would wake up and turn on the game boy and play this game for several hours until it was time to go eat.
Cuabdo tenia 9 años mi padre me compro un Game Boy. Lo jugabamos con mi hermano, el unico caset que teniamos era este de Don King Kong. Que nostalgia ver esto.
My jaw hit the floor with this game. Donkey Kong Country on SNES was mind blowing, but to get a similar game on Gameboy was amazing. I knew it was capable of better in it's early days, but I didn't expect this.
Incredible game for game boy. The only detail are the low contrast between background and sprites in some levels (cave levels are hard to see in the original green screen). KIller Instinct had the same problem but they put a high contrast mode that this have should have.
@WildWaddledee It's supposed to be long. In Longplays, you're supposed to see the entire game from start to finish, including any cutscenes (and in many cases, all endings too). You can find shorter versions of this on RUclips cut into smaller clips, but if you clicked the link to this video and expect a short playthrough, you're in the wrong place. Make sure you actually want to see a Longplay before you click the link leading to one.
Y'know, considering that we're taking SNES game assets and taking a game this size and making it intended to be played on a GAME BOY, this is pretty damn impressive...
I played this game way before I ever played Donkey Kong Country and i gotta say this game was more enjoyable for me. Now i think it's just the nostalgic factor but I'm definitely excited to be getting Donkey Kong Country Returns soon, anytime I play a Donkey Kong game I think of days spent playing this one. Thank you Nintendo!
This is an old longplay, this longplay was replaced in August 2017 through a 100% longplay, here is my 100% longplay: ruclips.net/video/aeyNLItVcl8/видео.html
I never thought so, even when the game first came out, they was trying to make it like the snes but everything blended together on that small screen. Game was barely playable on a gameboy because of that, it was a big problem rare had in general when making gameboy versions of their games, battletoads in ragnarks world is another example of everything just blending in and being barely visible. I’m watching this on RUclips and I can see it’s still a massive problem even on a crisper, clearer, bigger screen.
Donkey Kong Land is the handheld sequel of Donkey Kong Country for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), which spawned its own series alongside the SNES series. Donkey Kong Land was enhanced for the Super Game Boy and featured a "banana yellow" cartridge, which was later used for its sequels. Many of the game's background elements, character models, and sound effects borrows mechanics retained the same style as those established in Donkey Kong Country. Despite sharing common level themes, the level design and story in DKL are different.
I had the GBC and tried to adjust the colors matching to each stage (water, jungle, rocks etc) You have to press A & UP/LEFT/RIGHT etc for various color palettes
From 23:02 it sounds like the chorus from a Dutch hit song from 1994, the game is from 1995. 'Dromen zijn bedrog' from Marco Borsato Listen to its chorus and then donkey kongs sample, can't help but think they used the same melody.
Honestly, I never thought they were good looking on the old Game Boy back in the day. Background and character sprites were both too dark, that it was sometimes hard to see where anything was. The GB Pocket fixed this a little and it's no problem on a GBC or GBA. But overall, I always thought the DKL-Games were made with the intention of being played on a Super Game Boy.
Ahh memories! Love this game and despite not being to check whether it was good when I bought it in the 90's, I'm happy to have owned it! Hate the water levels though.
I'm still impressed how much they managed to get out of a standard GameBoy. For the hardware, Rare really made this look great! Though, it can be hard to see at times, tweaking the contrast just right to made out everything.
So glad this game as well as the other 2 DK Land games got a digital re-release on the 3DS eShop. If you don't have them yet and still have a 3DS, you better purchase them soon as the shop is closing as of 2023 unfortunately. Same with the other DK games and everything else in the shop.
I never played Donkey Kong Country when I was a kid. We had a SNES but never got that game. But, I did used to play Donkey Kong Land on my Gameboy and Gameboy Color. I sucked at this game when I was 8 and I still suck at 26. Ahh..the memories...lol!!!
I love this game, I tried it when Ontario place used to exist. I played this at the Nintendo Pod and loved it! I'm going to see if I can find this game at the flea market I still have my old Gameboy.
God, these SNES DKC OST adaptations are truly a masterpiece. Especially the water levels. Oh my goodness :) I came here cause I'm writing a review for my channel and I just wanted to experience the game again. Unfortunately, I lost my copy 😓
@RABBIDGamfan It's been years since I've played either, but I think that you might be right. I think I like the soundtrack a little more too, which is saying a lot. I think this might have been the last NES/GB-soundchip soundtrack that David Wise ever did, so after about 8 years working with really similar sound hardware, I get the feeling that he pretty well knew what he was doing with it.
All these years later, this game still has some of the most satisfying sound effects ever.
I remember playing this game during long road trips. Good memories I tell ya.
Dark Jedi First game I ever played I was 8 i'm now 27
It was a favorite. Until i played Wario Land 2!

The good thing is its 16 bit counterpart is switch.
i still have it but the gameboy is broken ;-;
the music just makes this game so much more amazing!
i remember playing this for hours as a kid.
This little gem was my first ever console game. Gameboy was the best pastime when I was little :) The music is very creative too.
Quite impressive considering the hardware
Well... the whole DKC SNES game was ported to the Game Boy Colour.
About that storyline, crankey kong was better off to give donkey & diddy kong a B&W go pro camera and redo that adventure all over again, then he should sell that footage to a movie company to earn more money or bananas!!
You should see the GBC port
Impressive graphics in 8 bits
I used to sit up for hours playing this shit dragging through school the next day. 90's kid problems.

everything in this game was incredible. Graphic was awesome, not to mention the great audio, where you can find music like these today??

Piece of my childhood
Graphics, animation and huge sprites, very good job for the poor gameboy.
I can clearly hear Thing On A Spring and Ark Pandora from Commodore 64 in the last levels

So many pleasant houres of my childhood ! Thank you so much :) 💛

'Dromen zijn bedrog' from Marco Borsato
