At the very beginning of book of Acts (1:8), Jesus’ very last words to his disciples before ascending into heaven are both a command and a promise, “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses…to the ends of the earth.” In the second half of the book of Acts, we see this promise being fulfilled through the apostles, especially through Paul. Once an enemy of the gospel and persecutor of the church, Paul carries the message of Jesus farther and further than any other apostle - literally to the ends of the known world. But Jesus’ command and his promise of the Holy Spirit didn’t end with Paul; it continues today with us. We too, are called to be witnesses of Jesus to the ends of the earth!
