Same with the Indian immigrants I know. Virtually, all of them can speak hindi, regardless of their native language. Heck, according to our tour guide in Dubai, it is the most spoken language in Dubai....
Actually it is about 1.5 billion, because they are not talking about first language, merely how many people speak English (including as a second language). And 1.5 Billion is less than 19% of the global population.

I agree. I do find it hard to believe that there are only 1.1B Mandarin speakers and 600K Hindi speakers.
