  • What is the best Adult Crested Crested Gecko Enclosure.
    Well, IMHO it is NOT this one!
    Sostic Reptiles recently published a video showing a really cool enclosure for adult crested gecko. I love the style and space saving of this enclosure, but there are some significant concerns about these enclosures.
    When researching crested gecko enclosures, there are so many factors involved in providing your pets the BEST you can for their care. In this video we explore several factors you should be considering when purchasing your next reptile enclosure.

    I have over 100 of these. Never had an issue with them going to the back. The point is efficiency and it saves a tonnn of time rather than unstacking and taking lids off. Every little time adds up. I found these to be a cleaner more efficient way of keeping a large amount of animals. Also don’t have to deal with building in place a heavy wood rack system.

    • @SupremeGecko
      @SupremeGecko  Год назад

      Hey! Thanks for watching. I am so glad this is working for you. A couple notes- again, very glad you don't have geckos getting into the back. Also, I completely understand the efficiency. For me adding a couple of minutes for the tubs/tops is a far less priority than cost... 100X $40!!! WOW. Cleaner- not sure how these would be any cleaner than tubs. Seems like tubs might even be easier to clean than these, but I will default to your use of them. And, never had to build a wooden rack system for them. We run them on backer's rack (I do have a few older racks but am quickly moving away from them). Thanks again for your thoughts on this. I appreciate your open mind and your comments.

    I use the 32 quart sterlite tall tubs from Walmart. $8 a piece. I cut large holes and add mesh screen in on one side and it does very well. I don’t know if I would spend $40 on a tub because at that price point, I might as well buy a glass or pvc enclosure. Plus there’s a safety hazard so I’d pass. I’ll stick to my top closing bins. :)

    • @SupremeGecko

      I agree!! That gap really scars me a lot.

    I will have to say. The uniform look is nice. Price point I guess if you want to spend the extra $30 go for it. But, Then guess who suffers out of that? The customer as you have to pass that cost to them to make up for the extra cost.
    The shipping issue I can see that also as a huge problem. Most breeders keep everything on a schedule . I have 30 xyz eggs hatching on this date that gives me X amount of time to get these enclosures ready. oppsie 4 are broken so that sets the schedule off.
    Once I hit the part of the video about the gaps. That made it a no go for me right there. At that point safety of the gecko comes into play. Pushing the container open I can see a potential problem but that could be fixed with a latch that could be 3d printed or purchased from a hardware store.
    The few seconds you save might be worth it but not in my eyes. Space saving is a vaild point but it's not saving the gecko space they lose out.
    Thanks for the video Wally as always you keep it real.

      You just did a PERFECT job of summarizing the video! Well said and I could not agree more. Your points of concern are in the exact order that I have mine... especially about 'if you want to spend the extra $30 go for it' :)

    We have close to 500 geckos right now and after seeing the Robby video and ths Sostic video we started making the change to the Like It drawers and we love them, I currently have 30 of them set up (for our breeders), ordered 18 of them at once had just 2 show up broken both were replaced with no hassle at all. The description of having to get a gecko out of the enclosure IF they get behind it the drawer its no where near as difficult as u make it seem its still just a box no where for the gecko to go that u would have to chase it. Simply pinch the sides of the drawer and it comes right out gecko is in the empty space with no where else to go, also I have yet to have a gecko even try to get behind the drawer, just doesnt seem like something to stress over tbh.

    • @SupremeGecko

      That's great. I apologize if I made it sound like it was difficult to get the animals out. I just despise any time a crestie gets out and I have to chase them down or do anything out of the routine. So you DID get some that were damaged in shipping. Sorry to hear. Did you see my more recent videos? I love the new containers (and love paying only @ $4 versus the Like It organizers :)

    About the half inch or 1 inch spaces in the back of the tub when you open the ADULT (35 gram+) Enclosures (the 12x12x18) in 3.5 years of keeping them in these enclosures I have never had a single adult run back into that space. If they ever did though, they would still be 100% enclosed in a space they cannot escape from. The tubs are so easy to remove I have never considered this to be an issue, especially since I have never had an adult gecko go back there. Also the price. The container store regularly has 30% off sales. And if you spend 1k with them you get their exclusive account which allows you to use 25% off anything in their store. So I would consider them 30 dollars each. For them breaking. Out of the 150 adult enclosures I have ordered only 2 were broken to the point they were unusable. The rest of the 25% that were broken were minor chips or small cracks on the back of the tub. Completely invisible and not affecting the tubs usability at all.
    Great video professionally going over this response, I think I will also make a video addressing all the concerns I have heard from many people and explaining/debunking them!

    • @SupremeGecko
      @SupremeGecko  Год назад +2

      Hi Robby, I respect your opinion but, as I've mentioned to you a couple of times- the price point of $30 per is simply out of reach for many people. BUT.... getting in a product where 25%-40% are broken/minor chips/small cracks, is not acceptable IMHO. Lower quality in enclosure that are $30 each is hard to take. :) But, that gap I cannot get past. I know what you are saying and trust that you've never had the issue but if it happened even one time, OUCH!!! Thanks for your comments.

    These could be considered a "best" solution for saving space and ease of use, but do they best suit the gecko's needs? Probably not for me except maybe for juveniles. I house my adults in bioactive or at least naturalistic (sometimes they pound the plants into the ground), usually 25-35 gallons per adult pair. The hatchlings are in critter keepers as I have dozens I bought years ago before tubs caught on. Tubs are probably better for maintaining humidity, but that's not a huge issue for me with all the terrariums and misting systems in the room it doesn't get too dry.

    The other concern u raise about cost, the Container Store runs sales almost every month so while the list price is $39.99 I dont spend close to that for them, also IF one comes in with a stress mark not even a crack or break they send u a replacement they dont make u send the bad one back, no where else will u get this type of service. When u are setting up your bins with lids u also need to consider the cost of the shelving unit u keep them on.

    • @SupremeGecko
      @SupremeGecko  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the info. Good point about the stand. Adds another couple $2-$3 to each enclosure. The sales were mentioned in the first video. Even with the discount (I covered this this video), it's still $30 per! For replacements, that was mentioned in the first and my videos as well.
