  • How similar can a game be to its inspiration before it begins to detract from the accomplishment? That's the question we found ourselves asking when playing The Room-inspired puzzler The House of Da Vinci.

    I thought it was a brilliantly designed game. As for copying, The Room games copy many things from the Myst PC games (and two of those are on iOS). As The Room games have been moving closer to the Myst series, The House of Da Vinci also goes in that direction. For instance Myst has a story. The Room has almost no story (which is added in sequels) while The House of Da Vinci has several story ideas. As for the eyepiece idea, the Da Vinci game has added some things to it.

    The biggest form of compliment is to copy. It is always done in every form of entertainment froever. If you think it hasn't, then you are just naive. As a fan of The Room 1-2 cant wait to play.

    I don't care, not a jot. For someone who is housebound through mobility problems the mentioned games keep me sane and are the best on the market for this genre. Will greatly miss the da vinci games once they stop hope the others carry on as I do look forward to the new releases.

    I love the room since the first game was released and i sure cant get enough of it... Do i care this game copying the room? Well if its as good as the original... Then why should i? I love art and even more i love davincci's work... I havent played it yet cause im playing the room 3 and then imma play old sins(i didnt knew those two already came out) but im sure gonna buy this one and if it is how it looks like in this video i will love it for sure

    It's not like The Room was the first game to do this. There have been a lot of flash games alone since the beginning of the internet era.

      Exactly. These people are young and don't realize there were many games just like this in the 90s, 80s even (if you were rich).

    Old video but I'll admit that it does bother me a bit. It doesn't bother everyone, which is fine but maybe since I follow art, copying can be a strong worry. Maybe I'll get it on sale in the future or their next game but I'll primarily follow The Room series.

    • @n1nj4l1nk
      @n1nj4l1nk 4 года назад +1

      Writing something off purely because it's similar or uses ideas that other things have used is ridiculous.
      The fact that you follow art should have made that clear. Do you disregard whole styles of art because only the first person to do it has and worth? Do you only listen to one band/artist in each genre because they're the only original ones? Do you ignore genres because they take something from an older genre?
      Is Banjo not relevant because it copies Mario 64?
      If you truely believe what you said you'd only play Myst as The Room is pretty much the same thing but dumbed down for the mobile generation.

    • @Otakumichibi
      @Otakumichibi 4 года назад

      @@n1nj4l1nk Woah, slow down there. You misunderstand. My "copying" statement is mostly about how that can be a concern in general as it does happen in the art and game industry. It's not about "writing off" all games\art that are similar or in the same genre.
      And at the time of the comment, I heard people and reviewers state that this game in particular seemed to copy The Room down to even some of the of specific puzzles used. I don't remember the details at this point.
      I'm also waiting since I'm not/wasn't in the mood for another puzzle environment game.
      The copying statement was more about saying that in art, there is the worry for plagiarism and those trying to make a quick buck. Not that someone can't have similar styles or be inspired to work in the same genre.
      And let's be real here, we both know that with mobile games in particular, people are quick to make clones of popular games to make money.
      Geez, my comment was also made a year ago so I was really confused. I understand you thought I was writing off art and games of similar genres but your passionate reply also happened to be an incorrect assumption here.
      Me talking about being worried about those that copy with with ill intent is not the same as saying games/art can't be similar or in the same genre. It's a case by case basis.

  • @fromanDg
    @fromanDg 7 лет назад +3

    I think you thought about this one too hard James. Good is good especially for this genre. The game looks engrossing and I don't think anyone who likes the room is going to fault the game for being structured the same as long as the puzzles aren't exactly the same. I personally am not a huge puzzle fan but I would find a DaVinci reskin of anything pretty entertaining.

    It's not a bad game like the review states, and it copies HEAVILY from the room, but that's not the biggest issue I have...my biggest issue, also as the reviewer states, is it lacks polish and perfectly tuned intuitive controls....I had a lot of issues with the zooming in and out with the camera...I never had those kind of issues with the room series

      zahid aslan In what way is this not copying a game. It literally has the same mechanics (googles to reveal hidden objects, move levers,etc.). Not just that but the art-style is the same, the handwriting is the same, it seems they just used the same engine. The only 'twist' is that their puzzles are based on Da-Vinci.

      Fyi, I played all the 3 room titles long time ago and enjoyed them tremendously. I have also played the house of Da Vinci and enjoyed that as well. While it borrows *heavily* from The Room, it also has its own unique stuff and went in its own way. I think this wasn't featured editors choice since it lacked originality a little. But it was a great taste for me while waiting for The Room: Old Sins, which I am also excited about.
