    This video is for both DIY'ers and bodyshops as some Aston owners wouldn't want to try and fit this unit so this easy to follow guide will allow a bodyshop to fit this unit correctly and safely. body shops could charge decent money to fit this unit should an Aston Martin owner not want to attempt this.
    enjoy!

    Thanks for the video, it was very helpful! Happy vantage owner now! The hardest part of the installation for me was the optical cable wiring through the glove box, it took me an hour! Hope to see more Vantage related video from your channel, keep up the good work!

    i wouldn't worry if you are confused as to how to connect the optical wiring harness. there is only one way the optic orange wiring harness that comes with the unit will fit once the proper connector (the one with the two THICK orange wires) has been disengaged from the back of the cars radio tuner unit. after that is done one only needs to supply power to the unit. i used the center console's cigarette/12v power plug's hot (white w/orange(?) stripe) and ground (black w/blue stripe) wires as the source. it is a non-switched, always on power source. the unit supplied two red plastic splicing devices which worked well. dismantling the center console to gain access to the tuner's data input connector is the most difficult part.
    don't do as i did and short the 12v cigarette power source and blow it's fuse while screwing around with the power source connection. my manual did not even show where the fuse was. it's fuse 55 in the cabin's fuse box in the passenger's foot well behind the carpet. i could still put cd's in but they won't play as far as i know.
    i mounted the unit right behind and above the radio tuner unit and under the waterfall cover containing the start button. because i have no navigation unit/screen in my car, there is plenty of room. it's inaccessible there, i know, but i have no reason to believe i will need to access it on a regular basis. and i mounted the microphone in the ashtray by drilling a small hole inside large enough for the plug connector to be threaded through and back up to where i mounted the unit.
    to be honest, i was using an inexpensive ($15) bluetooth equipped fm transmitter before installing this mr12volt system and the sound quality was just as good, IMO, although i'm sure that technically it is not inasmuch as the data has the luxury of NOT being modulated into and out of an FM stream twice. so this installation was probably not really necessary. the only real difference is that i don't have the fm transmitter sticking out of the ashtray in such a way as to interfere with my using the shift lever.
    BTW, it should be noted that there are several pin protectors on the supplied wiring harness and possibly (i don't remember) on the unit itself (they are gray) that need to be removed before connecting things together.

    Hi! Thanks for this nice video. But could you also described how to remove and replace the central unit without breaking something? Also, my CD reader is dead, not the screen but the device inside. Can I remove it? It will still works? Or do I have to change it? Thank you!

    Hi there,,,I have a 58 Vantage with the same panel as yours,,,why does the radio screen keep flashing and going berserk,,,,liked the installation but not keen on the radio flashing ,,,

    • @RepairRefinishTV
      @RepairRefinishTV  4 года назад +1

      Hi Lyndon, is it the one on my video flashing? If so it's not actually flashing and is because the LED screen is being picked up by the shutter speed of my camera!. Take a look at some videos on youtube of a helicopter taking off with a different camera shutter speed its a similar principle. Hope this helps!

    Great video many thanks. I am going to make the same install on my 2005 DB9 shortly following replacing the CD player. You mention the sound quality is better, is that because this unit provides a better input than the linn system? I have the 950w and it's awful

    Did your unit have factory nav on it? Mr 12volt said they could only supply a unit to fit non nav Aston V8V system (probably an Alpine Volvo unit), I'm not sure but I think the nav system is a different make to the non nav. I have a 2006 with the crappy 3 digit post code nav system that looks like a 1990's video game.

      Hey! Mine did have the crappy satnav on it! Mine worked awesome when i fitted it but i have heard some haven't been as lucky as me in terms of getting it working . I'm not sure weather it is user error on installing or just a different type of software used. All i know is this worked great for me at the time. Thanks again

    I went to get a unit on ebay, but three retailers explicitly say , "do not buy for Aston Martin". Is it the wrong model (it says it is for Volvo S40/V50)? Or just the sellers' disclaimer for compatibility issues?

      Hey craig, it's been years since i got this now but all i can say is that everything i did in the video worked completely fine for me but some others haven't got it to work. The only thing i did to keep it working was plug a USB into it to keep it active otherwise the car didn't pick it up. Other then that it was fine

      That sounds odd, one thing mine did was not read my bluetooth properly but when i emailed them asking why they said to either plug the Auxiliary in and leave it in or put a USB in and leave it in and mine has worked ever since. Hope that helps

    Hi, I installed the unit in my 2007 V8V roadster, but I can only listen to aux-in (3.5 mm). The BT LED is not on and I cannot connect to my phone. I can't even change the source (BT, AUX-in, USB, card). The manual is total crap and not helpful at all. Can you help?

    • @RepairRefinishTV
      @RepairRefinishTV  3 года назад

      Hey, i had this issue and i contacted the people that make it. They said to constantly keep a USB plugged into the unit. Also to change source you have to follow the steps in the video to do that too. Hope you get sorted. I would have done more videos on it but i sold the vantage last year. The unit did work fine though with a few setup teething problems

    I tried mine, does nothing. Thought the unit was defective. They sent another one. Still nothing. The car display is absolutely blank. 12v comes to the adapter and so on. Nothing happens. Tried reset, etc. Any ideas that might help?

    • @RepairRefinishTV
      @RepairRefinishTV  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Marius, if the screen is blank that could be due to the optical cables either not connected or faulty. I had this issue when mine wasn't pluged in all the way. When i messaged the manufacturer they said to plug the auxiliary lead in and keep plugged in and that made the unit work ever since. Thanks
