The MERGE SAMPLE func is awesome in conjunction with loop sample. Now continuous seamless (where the end of a loop blends back into the start of the loop) drone or pad loops are a reality in the SP. Serious game changer for the experimental musicians out there who use the sp for making music off the grid.
The MERGE isn't necessary - the looper function allows for seamless loops too but the merge func is still an option to blend two parts AND do it seamlessly.
Cool updates! Hate to be devil's advocate though: why bother learning anything about music when all the manfactureres gives you the sounds, notes, keys and scales? It's amazing we aren't all on the Billboard Top 100.

I've installed 4.04 today but if I remember in FW 3 you can in pattern mode chosse a certain number of bars like the looper and loop over these bars with the pad samples. I don't know whats the difference with the actual looper...
When trying to use looper function, metronome switched on, rec on, but as soon as I play a note (on Roland j-6 connected externally) the metronome skips a beat and messes up my rhythm… any idea why this happens?
have anyone tried to use the looper while a pattern is playing? is that possible? lets say I have a drum loop done with the pattern mode, can I keep hearing that pattern while I use the looper functionality to record a 4 bar loop of an external source like a guitar?

Yessssss! Happy 404 day!
Thanks
Happy 404 Day, my guy!!!
Same to you too man! 🙌
you can only recorder 4 measures?? thanks for the video!!!
You can go longer with 'free' mode but you only have 16 seconds max
Your fingers not synching with the audio threw me off a few times, but that being said I love the in depth vid. Other youtubers seemed to gloss over most new features.
How does the envelopes on the sound generator doesn’t effect my wave? Does anybody have the same problem?
The groove function works nice on a quantized drumloop. Sounds like the old roland vp9000.
yeah i tried it and doesn't seem to affect the sound at all
@@alexambient7491 seems to not working. But the sound generator is great. Will use it a lot
How the easiest way to do or record live set up on the android phone? For making content on IG or TIKTOK? Do I need external equipment?
USB cable to whatever the bottom of your phone is - then use the camera to film and it should capture the sound as well
@@spvidz Thank you for the reply. Can I also do that with the audio output, and plug the cable into my phone headset input? Will it capture the sound and the video? So I can still plug my USB to my Laptop for work with DAW. (Sorry for my bad English)
That should work as well yes. You'll need to get a cable that goes from 2 x 1/4" jacks to a 3.5mm headphone input
@@spvidz Thank you so much for the reply
Help, I don't have a sd card slot on my mac M2, what do I do?
You need to pick up something like this - amzn.to/3wg2xzm
@@spvidz I see, thx a lot! :)
Hey @spvidz after the update I can´t export projects anymore. I can export 1 and no more than 1.... Does it happen to you as well?
it seems that only folder name is wrongly fixed to PROJECT_01, but content seems correct at least...
@@guitarfriends2163 So basically now you need to be in the project that you want to export in order to export it, if you select any other project (for example 2 when you are on 1) it will overwrite the project folder 1 with project 2. I don´t remember if it was like this before, but that´s a workaround
@@MisterRizzetti
I tried:
set Project 1, export Project 2, project 2 is exported to PROJECT_01 folder
set Project 2, export Project 2, project 2 is exported to PROJECT_01 folder
so, I think that output folder name is wrong...I'll do more test when I have time
@@guitarfriends2163 yeah exactly what I was saying, you need to be in the same project that you want to export :)
DJ FX DELAY but STILLLLLL no Subsonic??? HOW DRUNK ARE THESE PEOPLE?!
you may want to check out the new Sound Generator feature 😀
can you choose key to the scale?
There’s so much menu diving now, is there a cheat sheet of all the buttons and functions?
They have a shortcut list on the Roland website - www.roland.com/global/products/sp-404mk2/support/
@@spvidz thank you!
OMG
Anyone wanna trade my sp404mk2 for mpclive2
lost your sound at 14:30-15:05
Unfortunately, the mk2 is trash, it can have any software, the build quality judt isnt there. If you want a workhorse for life, get a golden era MPC (4000) or earlier.

Its 1am here in the UK So i'm not going to be awake for much longer to reply to comments. Can't wait to read all your reactions in the morning. Grab the new software here:

Soooo glad I got all my work done for the day. Time to get some loops going!
I have missed a probably a few upgrades, since I haven't been on it for about a year, if I get this upgrade will I miss out on the other upgrades? Or will will everything I missed be upgraded with this install?
@@wplwpl-uc9cg they all add onto the next update, so you were really just “patient” and were rewarded by tons of new features haha
Sidechain?
No error in resampling after loading a sample from SD card! Crashing and rebooting the SP, check out my post.
This is one I requested. Can’t wait to try it out.
it's still sp403 day for me 🙃
Early present then 😊

+1
Stop living in the past
Sincerely Australia 🦘 😅
You can make hats and snares with that noise generator
Holy shit i didnt expect this. Amazing, love the support from Roland for this machine
What is the difference between looper and recording patterns in real time mode?
You can overdub instead of resample over it,
Cool updates! Hate to be devil's advocate though: why bother learning anything about music when all the manfactureres gives you the sounds, notes, keys and scales? It's amazing we aren't all on the Billboard Top 100.
WOW! This updates frankly blown me brain cell!
So partly its become possible to emanate sort of RC505 autolooping operation.
I do have a question about updates.
I havent really kept my SP mk2 up to date (slapped wrists!) but what do i need to do to get up to this new version?
1. Update incrementally up to v4?
2. Just download n install v4 cos its got all the previous updates within it?
Muchos grazias for your help
Jonboy x
No variable sample rate 😢
I really need to start making a guide of all the key combinations; I still have to look for some of the past two updates . Thanks for the video! Happy 404!
Happy 404 Day, brotendo! Can't wait to get stuck in to some 404ism in the morning!
I've installed 4.04 today but if I remember in FW 3 you can in pattern mode chosse a certain number of bars like the looper and loop over these bars with the pad samples. I don't know whats the difference with the actual looper...
2 things I really wanted, Merge Patterns and a simple Ducker, I guess I'll wait till the next update
ducker/sidechain is still very much on my wishlist too!
@spvidz I mean come oooon who wants that groove thing!
Was it not looping before the update? How were you doing this before?
It didn't have a dedicated looper function before this. You had to resample a bit at a time or use pattern mode
Any USB-C to Lightning Cable Suggestions?
When trying to use looper function, metronome switched on, rec on, but as soon as I play a note (on Roland j-6 connected externally) the metronome skips a beat and messes up my rhythm… any idea why this happens?
Beatmakers aside, the looper is now a powerful tool for vocalists making live beats
have anyone tried to use the looper while a pattern is playing? is that possible? lets say I have a drum loop done with the pattern mode, can I keep hearing that pattern while I use the looper functionality to record a 4 bar loop of an external source like a guitar?
does it instantaneously record incoming external audio for live looping and autodetect BPM?
I'm guessing the groove works better with a quantized beat
Does the new looper can be externally midi synced ?
Or does it have a
Midi cc control possible ?
am i the only one who can't get the envelopes to work on the sound generator?
What even is the diffrence of the looper and the pattern mode?
Was hoping for more fx. 😫
We need a 202 FX!
The multipad thing didn't work for me. It exported some tracks, but not all unfortunally. It's messed up:(
Hmm I'll have to have a proper look. I've had a few issues with the looper too
