Great thanks . The concept you explained so well , I don’t have to notate down ( but maybe should re the partials to be thorough ) . Btw ( have your bop phases 1 printed) & doing 🙏. Highly recommend ❤
Man, uptempo jazz drumming is so fascinating to me. Even though I mostly play pop/rock/hiphop and some songwriter stuff, jazz in general, but especially uptempo jazz is my grail, when it comes to drumming. By now, I am able to keep high tempos with my lead hand, but comping with dynamic and precision is a huge challenge for me. Your exercises will help a lot.
AHHHHhhhhhhh! Where is the slipper cam so we can see what's happening with the left foot? At these tempos, my left foot trying to keep a quarter note pulse going lets me down. Should I be trying to keep a quarter-note pulse going with my left foot with the hi-hats on 2 and 4?
Super, thanks very much, Q. Great to do with slower tempos,to warm up or just use! Very usable across the board. Looking forward to your next post on uptempos :)
Q your out of sight I’m trying to find a way to get my cymbal up tempo back I have a thumb bone issue at the base of my hand bone on bone very painful swells up may have to just ride up tempos with other hand ( left) and rebuilt comping with right hand sucks like starting all over at 61 years old maybe a good thing lol
Oh, I’m sorry to hear that Elwood. Definitely don’t push it and if you have to learn how to swing left-handed, so be it. Whatever you gotta do, right? LOL!!
Hey Quincy! I found your channel like a week ago and I've already watched most of the stuff. Here is my question. As a open-handed type of drummer (beginner), would you recommend some drummers to listen to who are also playing openhandedly? Cheers!
I know of only a few open-handed drummers: Colin Stranahan, Lenny White, Donald Edwards and Connor Kent. Definitely would be good for you to check them out.
Thanks for the another great lesson and PDF! Getting lot's of millage out of the exercise by alternating bars starting with the snare drum, then play the next bar with bass drum or vice versa for a cool call and response, melodic idea.
Thank you for this great lesson! Do you recommend to also change the phrasing by practicing the exercises in a slow tempo (more in a triplet phrasing)? And then change the phrasing when you get faster? Or is it better to play in straight 8´s even in slower tempos? Thank you so much!!
Awesome. So hard not to play always the same when we feel the pressure of keeping up. Thanks, Qunicy.
I agree Etienne!
The best jazz chanel on youtube 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
That's very kind of you Maik!
Hey Quincy! Would love to hear your advice on how drummers (esp those with no piano background etc.) can learn tunes the right way!
Goof idea Joel!
Another great one. Thanks Q!
I even clicked the like button. Come on people! Click for the Q!
Ha! Thanks for the love Toby👊🏾

With a little work, up-tempo‘s won’t seem so fast and will in fact, become easier to play. Thanks for watching!

I’ll bring bask the slipper cam at some point. It’s too fast to keep quarter notes going so just focus on 2&4.
Man, I'm loving your videos. Waiting for the Ted Reed's Syncopation lesson!
I did one already actually. You should be able to find if you look it up. Thanks for watching Juan. Cheers!
Hi Quincy you are very fast! I can do it at 200 bpm tempo only, hoping to improve! thank you
You can do it Stef!
I know I asked for it, but I can't imagine I was the only one. Yeah, Q! Thank you.
My pleasure Nicky! Hope it helps my friend.
This is great Q!!! From Kevin Jones in the GRap! 😂
GRap in the house! Thanks Kev.

I appreciate that Robert!
Can you do a video on reading? Maybe give some resources to find charts and how to practice reading without a band
It’s on the list Tanner! Thnx bud.
I wish I could play Parisian Thoroughfare like Max. My brain keeps hearing 2&4 as 1&3 after a couple smoking fast bars and I get de-railed.
Try to tap the downbeats of each measure instead 2&4 or 1&3. It may help. Thanks Patrick!
@@drumqtips I will try that!
Can should one practice these on practice pad initially?
That would be a great way to practice this!
This is exaaactly what i need thanks so much!!!!
Happy to help!
Thanks for your teaching.. 😊
My pleasure!
I took lessons with John over my last school semester. He's a great guy and I love his Instagram interviews!

Hi Quincy, You listed all your gear except the size of your hi hats. Nice tutorial as always.
I updated it. Thanks Victor.
You guy, you r the best, thanks again to break down the way to show us how learn the idiom, Quincy Davis the doctor of the rhythm and best web teacher
You’re too kind. I appreciate it!
GREAT exercise! Always killing Q!!
Thanks Dan!
Truly challenging. Thanks for another outstanding lesson!
Thanks for watching Tom!

Yes. Add a slower tempo the updates definitely become more of true triplet. Let it naturally morph into eighth notes as you speed up the tempo.
@@drumqtips Thank you!!!
Can you recommend some recordings with this kind of tempo swing?
Check out Max Roach playing Cherokee.
“Enjoy the tempo, more than right the tempo.” That’s good!!!
I think I said “fight”. Thanks for watching Jack!
Thanks for making these tip videos!!
My pleasure Remy!
Great concept, Quince. Simplifies it.
As always, I appreciate it Bill!
Do you sing what you want to play?
I sing in my head subconsciously Ben.
