    Here in Brazil we do the same. We feed the bees when there is no nectar flow and prepare them for Spring. The main diference is that our bees are adricanized (feral) so we gotta be a bit more carefull when open feeding otherwise things could turn ugly

      What do you do when you don't have enough land to put the feeders 200 or 300 feet away?

    How much sugar water is offset by the honey removed from the hive before the dirth.
    Or
    How much honey is removed from hive knowing you are setting out one 5 gallon sugar water ?

    Very informative, thank you. My concern here in N. Michigan is bears. If I use this I will put solar electric fence wire around feeder.

    I've never feed my bees. I leave them plenty of honey. Honey is what bees are designed to eat, period. For the healthiest and strongest hives you shouldn't help them. Nature picks the strongest for a reason. The main reason for losing so many hives is because man in its wisdom treats and feeds them. Most bee keepers now have genetically weak bees because of all the feeding and treating. If you really think about it, what do you think would happen from feeding bees junk food and placing poison in the hive that contaminants the wax. Imagine what would happen to your health in the same kind of environment.

      Lisa Thibodeau !,You are thinking exactly the same as the " Jehovah Witness" regarding transfusion..Sorry you are weak, the strong will survive but not you my son/daughter.

      Bee keepers seem to push bees by taking honey supers and then giving sugar water in place of nectar . they do this because honey is more valuable than sugar water. They think bees don't need honey to survive ....I can give sugar water .
      it is commercial manipulation of bees from small to large scale.
      Usually the advantage in the bee/human relationship is not on the bee side when too much honey is robbed from the bees by bee owners.
      Seems to me.
      I am Newbee just learning...
      Just way it is.

      paul dow I agree with you, the bee’s labored all summer to store healthy honey to winter on. Sugar is a very poor substitute. We should leave bee’s some of their own food, it’s how God would want it done!

      @parkstalley3641  9 лет назад +3

      +danameable
      5 cup water
      1 tsp. lecithin flakes2 ½ lbs. sugar
      ¼ cup emulsifying wax (use WholesaleSuppliesPlus.com wax as different brands have differing emulsifying powers.)
      1/6 cup lemongrass essential oil
      1/6 cup spearment essential oil (i.e. 1/3 cup total, half lemongrass and half spearmint)
      Bring the water to a boil and whisk in the lecithin until dissolvedAdd sugar and blend in.
      At the same time, melt the e-wax in a double boiler.You can also microwave it in short 20 second bursts until melted.
      Add the melted e-wax and the essential oils to the hot sugar-water mixture and blend well with the stick blender until thoroughly combined. Let cool.
      Use 1/3 cup supplement in 5 gallons sugar syrup as a feeding stimulant.
      Bonus: Retards mold formation in sugar syrup.

    Thanx for publishing this feeding method. This is an excellent guide and regardless of some resistance on the part of some bee keepers, I think this is a great way to go. Thanx for risking rejection from some folks that are not in favor of open feeding. please know that some of us really appreciate your sharing information. Don't get weak! Also, please don't hesitate to post more videos. You do a great job with content and presentation. LP

    Wonderful video Landi. I'm in PA, Collegeville Pa and have been watching bee keepers that are mostly south of us, and I think that there timing is probably different than ours is. I enjoyed this method of feeding as it's probably easier than the bottles in the boxes. Not only that, I got the impression that a woman's compassion is different than a mans sometimes. Thank you

    Foolish American to feed outside. I prefer tophivefeeders so i knows the quantity of food of every family i have give. Open the roof open the lid of the feeder filled close both . Work is done . By this open feeding a weeker family get often not enough especially when weather is bad. And the risk of robbing is high and you are calling hornets wasps ants and they robbing also the bees not only the food. Greetings from Southitaly

    This is my first view of your presentations. I enjoyed it very much. I have open fed in the past and had mixed feelings about its success. You provided me with information that I'll be using this summer with the apiaries. I'm looking forward watching more of your videos.

    Sorry...would never rob feed in this lifetime...too many negative aspects to this and feeding individually tells the beekeeper a lot about each colony...I would never encourage my bees to rob at any time.

    • @roswurmm
      @roswurmm 9 лет назад +2

      +Prince William Beekeepers So far so good. It's been cool and raining but the girls found the bucket and are working it. Just about 20 bees working it. I'll see how it goes on a warm day. I think this would work well during a summer dirth. It may be better to use top feeders this time of year, so they can work that on a cool day.

    • @roswurmm
      @roswurmm 9 лет назад +2

      +Matthew Roswurm Next day it warmed up. They finished off about 1/2 a 5 gallon bucket. I'll wait until they finish it off and check for drowned bees.
