    Great bike. My wife had a Cinder Cone in mid 1980’s..white with black splatter. Bike shop where I worked in Oxford U.K. late 1970’s until mid 90’s sold Kona. Excellent. My only comment on this build-personally really would need to remove canti-brake bosses! But that’s just me!!

    • @oldshovel
      @oldshovel  3 месяца назад

      In the 90's most mountain bike tires were not larger than 2.0 inches wide. There were some 2.2's out there but they were considered large. Because of that, most bikes don't fit much more than a 2.2. On this build, I went with 2.2's there is room for larger. As to advice, there is not much you can do to fit fatter tires in a frame without some frame modifications...

  • @geirrosset
    @geirrosset 24 дня назад

    Love watching these old bikes being given a good once over. But short of having a workshop full of parts I have found that rescuing an old bike with broken parts quickly turns more expensive than just buying a slightly better bike outright. Not that you claim than anyone can do this. So unless the old bike has sentimental value it is hardly worth the time or money (my opinion of course). I had an 18 speed MTB with a broken fork. For about the same price as a new cheap suspension fork (could not find just a second-hand fork anywhere reasonably near me) I could get a 21 speed MTB, with a better frame and a better suspension fork than the old one had to begin with, but then that would be just buying another bike which wasn't the point...

    Dang this video made me miss my old Kona Caldera! Sold it a few years ago when I had to move and it wasn't convenient for my new place that has fewer trails available.
    I got it as a cheap replacement for my previously stolen bike and I quickly learned to love it even though it wasn't even the right size for me.
    This video reminded that I need to get another Kona some day in the future. It was a lovely bike for sure and happy to see that Kona continues to exist.
    Many of the early 2000's Kona bikes are still useful and good looking even today!
