Dave, next time you are near The Trafford Centre, carry on along the M60 to junction 1 in Stockport. At Decathlon there are loads of these chargers. Not used them yet as I charge at home, but the site looks impressive.
Thanks for staying in the cold to do the video and show the chargers. Nice to hear that BE EV is a more local company and that the app does not require too much info to sign up. More charge options in a popular destination is always a good thing. I approach chargers that are within a mile of each other as being very suitable as if one lot are very busy you can quickly divert to another and hopefully find it has space.
But should we really need RFID cards and a plethora of ghastly apps on a smartphone to get a discount? Maybe just make credit cards (contactless) work reliably and find some way of making us choose them other than these wretched apps.
We need the Government to step in and make all public chargers one price and that price should be the same as charging at home (why should someone in a flat pay these random overprices compared to any petrol station were there is only a few pence difference across the whole country.... if they want mass adoption by 2030 this is needed
I wouldnt trust the Government to be able to set the price properly would you? Especially this Labour one... They would make it twice the price of Tesla!
Take a trip down south on the A5 near Leighton Buzzard where you will find a nice surprise on the cost of a charge. It is a nice site where they don't rely on the grid.
@davetakesiton -Update… 5 charge point operators I’m now aware of using Kempower chargers: Sainsbury & Osprey use basic Kempower colours, Be.ev green as you showed, Arnold Clarke with White/yellow and MER with blue.
How is it anymore or less complicated than Tesla who have 4 charge prices PER location and most are different! At least with Be ev its member or non member (same as Tesla) and then peak or off peak (same as Tesla) the depending on the carger is the price, similar to Tesla depend on the location is the price, so very similar in many ways
I used those ones in Urmston last Saturday, only a short drive from Tesla at the Trafford Centre (which was rammed at 8.30 in the morning) and 60p kw/h with the app - no problems at all
There is already a CCS2 to Chademo connector, but at £800 are not worth it for the small amount of times most chademo fitted cars will charge in public
Most of the Be.EV rapid chargers close to me are only for e-taxis but I’ve never seen them being used. There was once a taxi parked next to one in an open to all AC charger space that was plugged in but not charging
Having bought our first EV I am very interested in your channel. Thank you. Just for your Information our KIA EV3 is 400 volt architecture although KIA claim it will charge much faster than most 400 volt vehicles. Regards.
Just for info, the LEAF with a 62Kwh battery will charge at up to 100kw. I have often with my LEAF drawn around 85Kw on a charge starting at 40%. . Being used to my 40 LEAF I was pleasantly surprised the first time I rapid charged on a Gridserve 'Pump' . (Dispenser sound like something you get medicine from! )
Be.EV have been in Bolton for a good 3 or 4 years. They use other charger types too not just Kempower. Useful fast chargers in the NCPs however as other comments say their own branded RFID cards are unreliable best using the app.
My only experience of them was an incorrect (by 30 miles!!) location position (directed to via octoverse), around this time last year. I'll never be so thankful to BP pulse who had an old 50kw charger in a hotel carpark nr Appleby. Once I told them about the faulty GPS co-ordinates, they corrected it with a few hours.
Many now have pre-auth - whether app, RFID, or bank card. Would you rather have more fraud opportunities? If you use a credit card, with sufficient credit, then why worry? Do you check your available balance continuously?
Sometimes with Be.EV when I only need 7kW I get 22 & vice versa Today I wanted an AC charge when I was at the cinema in Bury but only the rapid charger in the multi storey car park was available
were did you get the 50p from.. did you beg for it as it is so much money. we need to fine these cars parking illegally and use that income to drop the charging price for users would now depend for that site what is near to go to. for toilet and to spend time doing something when charging
@davetakesiton Sainsbury standard Orange. Osprey standard orange. Arnold Clarke (for their customers only as it appears to be a private network for them that’s allowed still?) white and yellow. Not seen any others yet.
Ok - I just managed to watch to the end, but quite honestly, this useful video needs to be half it's length. Why the multiplicity of charging rates? It's nonsense. Offer prices related to speed of charge and make all of these contactless. I don't need a special app or branded card to buy diesel, so why should I need an app to get a better charge price? Why should we pay to park to use the chargers? It might be a good idea if the owner of the site paid a contractor to remove all the leaf debris and make it presentable. Thanks.
I live on the west coast of Northern Ireland. There are virtually no chargers of any type within a reasonable distance,so don't moan about chargers or prices you lucky people
Dave, very interesting video here at about 3/4 way though the strangest charging station out in the middle of no ware ruclips.net/video/2AmQAO8aH6k/видео.html
Even BP Pulse (including the Gigahub) are more reliable than these are. The BE EV RFID card doesn’t work with their own machines. I avoid them like the plague.
It’s brilliant all these know all’s who tell us how crap EV’s are without any actual experience of owning or running one. I currently spend around £30 a month on “Fuel” for 2 cars 😂
@@IanThompson-p2r it is true average yearly consumption. I've had my MG5 for nearly 4 years. I used to have a Seat Altea xl 2l diesel, great family car, but. It cost a fortune to keep on the road, in comparative running costs.
Great video & thanks for all your hard work in going around the various chargers & explaining, thanks. All the best
Thanks for your effort. In the main "Dave Takes it On" is a good RUclips channel but Dave you do tend to go on a bit.
The Zoe does not have Chademo! only type 2 on old models and CCS on recent examples.

Dave didn’t mention that BE EV is part of Octopus so should work with the Electroverse card.
But should we really need RFID cards and a plethora of ghastly apps on a smartphone to get a discount? Maybe just make credit cards (contactless) work reliably and find some way of making us choose them other than these wretched apps.
ERRR..Chademo= Leaf not Renault Zoe as they are CCS2 for Rapid, type 2 3 phase otherwise.
Wow. I drove past Rochdale FC ground today and saw they have these installed there and was wondering what Dave's take would be !

Arnold Clark Charge also use Kempowers.(mainly in Scotland).
Arnold Clarke charge 55p to AC customers.
@@roberthartley6629Alas it’s just for their customers though which is an incentive…
For Ev use kemp power with their own livery as do Arnold Clark charge
Love how Dave takes it on with these rouge non EV cars in charging spaces 😂

I used those ones in Urmston last Saturday, only a short drive from Tesla at the Trafford Centre (which was rammed at 8.30 in the morning) and 60p kw/h with the app - no problems at all
There's a good length of cable there to take down to the local scrappies!
I thought you were against crime and criminals
Not seen this charger ,ove the video,
I tend to use only Tesla as free for life for me.
They shouldn't bother with Chademo connections and rather create a connector for Chademo to CCS.
150kW supply will fry a Chadamo
@@jimmys6566the power given is rated by the car and not the charger. A 50kw charging car will happily charge at 50kw on a 500kw rated charger

Dobbies Garden centre in Shepton Mallet have them and they seem to be good t they do run discount offers .
Good chargers. We have them in the southwest at Dobbies Garden Centre in Shepton Mallet, Somerset.
You still have Dobbies? Never understood why they put DC chargers at (now closed!) Dobbies in Timperley. Behind locked gates most of the time.

Don’t Kempower pop up a QR code so you can scan it if you want charging information on your phone?
That's right. I have a Niro EV 2+ which doesn't have app support so it's handy to scan the code and keep track of the charge.

£25

Odd. RFID card worked for me in Cheshire and Derbyshire when on the road.
All these complications and restrictions.
