because I put it there. The way I hold the guitar when I'm sitting down, the round part where the knobs are sits between my legs, with the horn resting on my left leg. The original jack was located on that edge of the guitar between the first two knobs (if you look real close you can see the slightly flattened part where it was. This arrangement pointed the jack straight down into the chair I was sitting on. And since I had a straight plug cable in it, it broke, because it got jammed into the seat. I hated that, so I decided to put it where it would be out of my way. I always use a right angle plug now. And if I'm sitting down, I can drape the cable forward over my left leg, or back, as you see here. Some day I'd like to mount some sort of clip between the bridge and the first knob, that would hold the cable in place there, so it can stick out the back when I want it to, without laying on the knobs. Short version: I'm weird and I like having it there. Also, that big white circle of metal that the jack is mounted in used to be part of my laundry machine
