    It's almost as if the people in the video are ghosts, desperately trying to tell us their stories. Despite their struggle to tell us their stories and prove their significance, they are merely wisps from the past, almost completely forgotten and abandoned. And they know it.
    The film brilliantly articulates what will eventually happen to all of us...

    two stories come to mind, both from world war 1, either a husband eventually returns home with the other soldiers, greets his wife and both go back to village. or its the soldiers memories of his wife that's having pictures taken of her on a field, he is dead but then when he greets her it's almost like she was dead too and was stepping into the spirit world by holding his hand. beautiful. thankyou. subscribed x

    J'adore ce film ! ... "Light Is Calling" me tire encore presque des larmes... A chaque fois que je le revoit... Et moi, verser une larme çà m'arriva pas souvent, c'est l'effet de l'Olanzapine que je prend tous les soir dans l'espoir de rester libre... J'en pleure à nous veau ce soir en le revoyant...
    I love that movie ! ... Without doubt the beautiful film that I saw at the festival of different cinemas ( Paris) ... I was already a fan of "Footprints" first discovered on TV in SNARK while I was a student then finally seen in 16mm at 102 rue d'Alembert (Grenoble) during an evening dedicated to Bill Morrison... The guy is nice too... "Light Is Calling" still almost brings tears to my eyes... Every time I see him again... And for me, shedding a tear doesn't happen often, it's the effect of the Olanzapine that I take every evening in the hope of staying free... I'm in tears this evening when I see him again...

    I recall the burning scenes in Cinema Paradiso, but the hypnotic soundtrack of Light is Calling synched to visually ambiguous burned film lets my mind imagine things that are not there. Just like staring at a campfire or fireplace does. The looped sound and image is like a backbone, and the violin and the recognizable images give it an emotional arc. Excellent, really liked this film. I hit scubscribe.

    Love this video, I first saw it on Classic FMTV years ago and I been in love with it since then. I always come back to this wonderful piece of music every now and again. This and a few other videos that Classic FMTV introduced me to, like Bobby Mcferrin's Circle song 6, Philip Glass's Metamorphosis 1 & 2, Vanessa Mae's Art of War and a few others of which I cannot search for because I don't recall the names of the songs or artists, sigh*. So wish they never got rid of Classic FMTV, it was the best music channel on SKY!

    It mean loading the original film into something like a projector (but not exactly) called an optical printer and photographing it frame-by-frame with a camera. It's how a lot of special effects work was done before digital. For fresh film in perfect condition there is lots of automation to make the process fairly fast, but for a film in this condition, it would have been a very delicate procedure.

    Bill Morrison, You are a true genius to come up with this idea, and I don't want to be disrespectful, but I really like to see this with such post-processing, that would make the image flicker less. It is not a pleasant experience for the eyes, and might as well have been. Please consider more viewers sensual experience as you proceed with your next masterpiece. Beyond the fact it's painful hard to watch, it's just brilliant on so many levels.
    Also, thank You for putting it on youtube.

    Dear Bill Morrison, I wished this film as well as your other 'shorts' (all those other works beside "Decasia") would be available on DVD or whatever. The Quicktime movie version on M. Gordon's CD simply doesn't do the trick, and my Re-Voir '8 films' VHS tape is pretty worn by now... Seriously, I really would like to buy a DVD to get a chance to see your other works instead of only reading about. them. Any plans for such a release...?

  • @simonettavespucci
    @simonettavespucci 13 лет назад

    @MageApocolyptia Obviously you pretty much have an excellent sense of what the film actually might be about. Try to catch Bill Morrison's "Decasia" which is, so to say, the fully extended dance version compared to the radio edit here. ;-)
