My wife and i just bought the bowflex extreme 2 se.. 3 miles from my house for 300.00 dollars ...im 75 and my wife is 68 . i admit its been a little overwhelming , but we are catching on . we are both cancer survivors and lost a lot of strength and want to regain what we lost . we have learned a lot just watching your videos ! Thank you ! PS we are having FUN !
My husband is 69 and I'm 67...we're looking for adding more weight/resistance to our exercise routines. It has been recommended for building muscle strength to combat the onset of osteoporosis....that and a proper diet, of course. Looking forward to getting our new/used one as well!
Awesome! And great reason to get into resistance training. Please use those links if you decide to buy new...and when you do get set up, check out my beginner routines to get started!
Just bought an extreme off Facebook marketplace for $100 delivered to my house..... just had ankle/foot reconstruction surgery and been non weight bearing for the last 7 months lost a lot of muscle mass can't wait to start working out!
Thanks for the review! The Bowflex is also a great for second floors, Apartments and Condos. Besides not having an extremely heavy machine (including you) sitting in one spot, there is no banging of weights to annoy neighbors. Also after set up, you can easily move it around as you add items to grow your exercise room or home gym.
I have had a Bowflex since 1991. Starting with the basic model. Then in 1999, I bought the Bowflex Ultimate. Still use it 5-6 days a week. I kid you not, it is the best home gym in my opinion. Lifetime Warranty still works. I have had parts replaced at no cost. Can’t say enough great about this product. Great video. Subscribed. Michael
Just bought one of these for $200. Machine looks like it’s never been used. Can with the preacher curl attachment that was in a sealed box. Looking forward to working out on this.
I was able to buy a Extreme 2se in great condition and with all the attachments off marketplace for $325. It is so convenient and ive made great progress
Love my Extream 2. Purchased it used I 2009. I have been using it for 14 years and love it. I immediately purchased the power rod upgrade and never looked back. Still works great!
I am considering buying a Bowflex machine. in your experience and use case, how long does it take for resistance rods to lose their resistance and having to replace them?
I have a Bowflex basic model since 1999. It has been great, I use it all the time, but the seat has finally broken beyond use. I like your video because I saw an Extreme model for sale in next town over for cheap. Thanks for your review!!
I assume you're buying used, but in case you didn't see the XTREME is for sale right now for just $799 on the bowflex site. Lowest price ever. nautilus.atkw.net/mgyE3Z (affiliate link that I earn a commission on when items are purchase through it)

I've seen these machines sold on Ebay for such ridiculously low prices compared to what they were when they were 1st introduced. Outstanding, great home exercise machine!! By the way, I replace all of my Power rods every 3-4 years to keep my Bowflex in tip top shape!!
Your channel is just what I was looking for! My dad bought one of these a few years ago, and I plan on using it now. I did notice the resistance didn't seem that high, and I was wondering if I was using it wrong, but it seems its about 1/2 like you said.
Thanks for the video, hard to find good videos on Bowflex home gyms in general. I decided to get the XCEED, good Black Friday deal. Hopefully worth it!
Bought an older model for $75 from Goodwill. Had to repair the seat, the rods are drooping but I still get a lot of use out of it. Mostly for accessory work like Triceps and Shoulders, but I do compound lifts other ways.
Great review and really helpful. Been looking for a Bowflex and found the Xceed on Dick's Sporting Goods for only $300 (plus $160 shipping). It ended up being the same cost as some of the used smaller models I was looking at.
Thanks. So what'd you end up doing? Was the one at Dick's a floor model or something--otherwise $460 shipped for a new one is the best deal you're going to find. Also, the XTREME SE2 went back on sale for $999 today (Black Friday pricing). I was just getting ready to post about that. 😀
Not a floor model. Total $500 (machine, shipping, tax). And they do have one floor model for a bit cheaper, but I bought the new one. As you know, I couldn't pass up this deal.@@BowflexWorkouts
you could use your abdominal attachment for your squats? you could face the cables sit down on the seat and bend backwards as another back exercise maybe use of abdominal attachment but may place too much neck tension.
So I just bought a used Exceed off of my local Marketplace for $100 and thought I got a good deal but upon inspecting it! I realize it is missing quite a few things and the rods are worn out and even the block that holds the rods is broken and wont stay in its holder! I had planned on ordering the resistance bands that you mentioned so wasnt worried about the rods! One thing that is very important that is missing is the short bar thats bolted to the frame that you use to do crunches along with the bolts that hold the top cross bar in! Ugh! I cant believe I bought this! Not sure if i want to fix this and make it work or sell it for parts and get the Extreme 2 that I wanted for $300. I usually do my research and learn everything about anything i purchase like this and this one time i didn't and im kicking myself! Im a newbie to working out(long story) but I am 47 now and feeling the effects of not working out! Im not over weight as i am 6'10" and 230lbs but im noticing and feeling flabby! I can make this work and come up with some work arounds to make it work long enough to atleast get my moneys worth! Just venting and hopeing that anyone who reads this and are looking for a used Bowflex knows to research and make sure you know what one of hese looks like from top to bottom and take your time inspecting it!
Ugh, that is really unfortunate to hear. I have a similar, but not as bad, experience with buying a Bowflex Blaze about 18 months ago. I spent a while trying to salvage it, but purchasing a few parts to make it functional just was far more expensive than buying another. I've more or less, scraped it for parts and planning to buy another Blaze at some point for the channel (unsure if it'll be used or new). If I were in your shoes and the $300 XTREME was still available, I'd purchase it and transplant the XCEED's 50lb rods to it. I'd then take apart the non-functional one and set aside the extra pulleys, cables, clips, and then recycle the machine at a local scrapyard--that's my plan at least with the Blaze. At some point I want to record a video of tips about purchasing a used Bowflex. If you have any pictures or advice on that, feel free to shoot me an email (BowflexWorkouts@gmail.com) or post it in the facebook group. Doesn't have to be long or anything, just a "look out for this and that" with a pictures would be helpful.
I bought an Extreme2 on FB marketplace for $300. It had been outside under a porch roof for years but cleaned up great when I got it home. With some new power rods it is like new. I always wanted one when I was a young lad, but they were really expensive in the pre-internet age. Bowflex had a payment plan back then. The build quality is very good; I like it. The Extreme2 came with the original manual. Should I send in the product registration card? :-)
Buying used is definitely the way to go! Can't tell if you're being sarcastic with the comment about the registration card. The company went bankrupt about 3 months ago and even if you could convince the new owners you were the original buyer, the might not honor the warranty.
@@BowflexWorkouts Sorry, yes, that was my dry sense of humor. Not always a successful sense of humor. I did read about the bankruptcy. The company sold for an amazingly low price.
Great channel, I am looking to buy used and can choose an exceed or ultima, both for $300. What would Boflex Workouts choose? (My guess is there is no wrong answer). Just tried your Amazon link, Xceed is $1199 plus 13% tax here in Canada that makes that $300 look real good!!
XCEED and $300 is a fine price if in solid condition, but not a steal. Up until recently they retailed on Amazon for $800 and occasionally would go on sale for $700. Used gym equipment normally goes second hand for half off.
So, bows have similar resistance curve to bands, cords, springs? I think cable machine would be better then. You want a good resistance at the beginning.
Yes, they are similar to bands. There are pros and cons to this gradual resistance, probably more cons. Overall though, I think these machines are a good value proposition due to their versatility.
Idk anything about the Techno gym, but I generally don't like gyms of that design. You're just so limited on exercises. If I was willing to spend that much I'd either get a Tonal home gym or get a squat rack with smith machine, bench, & functional trainer.
I'm sorry, I don't understand your question. Are you asking about versions of the machine that lie flat like a PR1000? If so, as long as it has the top pulleys, you can to lat pulldown. Lat Pulldown with a bar is a better lift than just the handles and not all machine come with the Lat Bar.
got a question I got one of the OG bow flex machines..., I always though could a guy not hook the opposite side to the rods? so Left rods work for right work out and vice versa. I've never wanted to try for fear of busting something and I really don't want to replace but if thats the case you could really get a lot more weight out of your machine too....., anyways just a thought.
I haven't tried that, but I've heard of people rotating the rods 180's to get a new life out of them. Another way to add resistance is here: ruclips.net/video/1yJCOLfRo2I/видео.html
Got any tips for how to disassemble just enough to pack into a small suv without completely taking it apart? I’ve been eyeing some used se on Facebook but would have no idea how to transport it.
Not really, it's pretty simple (and coming from me, that's saying something). You basically just detach a few of the large pieces and the cables running to them. Then you have sort of a mess of cables attached to center piece. Just have some allen wrenches and an adjustable wrench.
I bought a used XTREME 2SE during the height of covid for $500 then cancelled my gym membership. I need to add some more weight and get the long straps for the squat bar.
Your best bet is going to be on the site linked below. Shipping is expensive, but rods cost less. 2x 47000105 1x 47000702 www.fitnessrepairparts.com/equipment/Select/33294/Bowflex/XTREME%202SE%20HOME%20GYM%20-%20100712

Hey man! Just discovered your videos, great stuff. I'm about to get a used Bowflex, and I've found a PR1000, Xceed, and Blaze for basically the same (inexpensive) price. Which of these machines would you say is the best overall? FWIW, I'm open to atypical upgrades like the resistance band addition you mention, though less enthusiastic about taking a hack saw to its resell value, and I'm a pretty strong 165 lb guy so I'll wanna increase weight capacity beyond minimum somehow. On paper, it seems to me that the Blaze may be the best of all worlds? -PR1000 comes with an adjustable bench (which can be used for non-bowflex workouts) and can become a pretty great row machine (after your upgrades) - BUT has lower power rod limitations and no pulldown bar. -Xceed has the pulldown bar which is great, more potential exercises overall, and higher power rod limitations - BUT no rowing capability. -Blaze = rowing and an adjustable bench like the PR1000 but a pulldown bar and higher weight limit like the Xceed. Thanks! Looking forward to following your channel.
Ben, thanks for the note and good questions. You've summarized it well. Personally, I like the XCEED best. One thing that's hard to talk about with the PR1000, is sometimes the angles just aren't right. It's a function of only having the 2 sets of pulleys. The Blaze helps fix that with the ground pulleys, which is great for Bench Press and Squats. The seat/vertical bench on the XCEED might look weird at times, but it gets the angles right. The middle pulleys can also go in and out, so it's more customizable too. The 3 things the Blaze has going for it over the XCEED are (1) The rower upgrade. (2) Leg Curl attachment makes for a great hamstring lift. (3) The bench could be used with dumbells (though I never do this). IDK if this would sway your decision, I also will be producing far more XCEED routines than Blaze specific ones (all the PR1000 routines work for the Blaze, but ones I'm referring to use the ground pulleys). I'm currently working on a 8 week hypertrophy program and might interest you. No videos up yet, but they'll start in a few weeks! Anyways, hope that helps and let me know what you ultimately decide!
This was a helpful video. Here in Guadalajara Mexico, I only see the xceed on Amazon Mexico along with the 300 and 400 pound upgrades. Maybe that would be good enough, but it's a shame I can't find one of the models that makes everything easier to adjust. Either way, I'll probably supplement my purchase if I do go with this with a free weight bench for chest and either adjustable dumbbells or a set of dumbbells. Debating between Bowflex and the Marcy MWM-990 for my cable exercises. So many people complain with xceed about having the rod switching during workouts, and that is what is scaring me. I'm guessing after a while you get very good at switching them fast?
Keith, thanks for the comment! Changing the weight (rods) only takes about 10 seconds. It's super easy. Re-running the cables to a different pulley, not so much. Takes a minute or so and breaks up the flow of a workout if you're changing them back and forth a lot. When I design (and post) routines here, cable and weight changes are something I think about a lot, so check those out if you do buy. The manual's routines do involve lots of adjustments though.
[11/23 Update] The XTREME (nautilus.atkw.net/mgyE3Z ) is on sale for $999 w/free shipping. This is the best price you'll find for a new XTREME. An extra set of power rods & mat can be added for $150--also a good deal. The XCEED: amzn.to/35XeH2P normally sells on Amazon for ~$800

@@BowflexWorkouts i mean it’s like having a bjj white belt being the star of a instructional bjj training video. it just seems off. nothing against u it’s just a situational thing.
I've been binging your videos all day. I'm in the market for a bowflex, I'm having a really hard time deciding. Cost is a non issue. Wife and I need to change our lifestyle. I'm 5'11 and weight 265 lbs. I'm trying to loose weight and shape up. Been looking at the xtreme/xceed/blaze/pr3000 models. Purchased a stand alone rower and a treadmill for new house and want to finish the room with one of these. Space and cost are irrelevant. Which model would best suite a beginner scrub like me but keep it easy to switch between exercises and be less cumbersome? Any tips are greatly appreciated. Back to watching more of your videos, I apologize in advance if you covered all this.
Hi Mac! If cost is not an issue whatsoever, I would go with a Tonal Home Gym--but that's something like $4K + $50/month. It is a better product and the membership has all these programs to follow and keep you motivated. You may have noticed that I have a membership program. It is partly inspired by what Tonal has to offer and my goal with it is to give Bowflex owners even 25% of the options that a Tonal membership gives you. For Bowflex though, I would go with the XTREME SE2 (nautilus.atkw.net/mgyE3Z ). It's currently $1,100 + free shipping--which is a good price for it and the "quick change cable system" is going to make moving between exercises super easy. You may have noticed in my videos with the XCEED, I have to re-run the cables to different pulleys sometimes and that normally takes ~90 seconds which can mess with the flow of a routine. I spend a lot of time on designing routines to minimize this, but for someone less invested into it, it's worth it. Why XCEED over the Blaze? Better from factor and targeting of muscle groups. Why over the PR3000? I haven't tested that model, but I don't think it's as solid of a build as the XTREME and comparable price. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions. And if you buy new, going through my links would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The XCEED: amzn.to/35XeH2P normally sells on Amazon for ~$800
Your first link is giving me a page with this error: "The link you clicked on is malformed. Contact the editor of the originating page." The second link works fine.
Ah! Looks like you included the closing parenthesis in the URL.
@@cklester Thanks, CK. I fixed the hyperlink. You buying one?
@@BowflexWorkouts I'm doing my research on home gyms. There are so many options, it makes my head spin. I'm really looking to get a rack, but... so... many... options!!! :D Anyway, as I'm searching, I'm getting suggestions for videos of all types of home-gym systems. Great. More research material. :D
@@cklester You probably already came across www.youtube.com/@GarageGymReviews . He reviews lots of free weight and cable machine products.....most of it's a bit more expensive than a Bowflex, but if you're looking for more traditional gym set up, he's tested tons of them.
Where is the weight bands upgrade video you mentioned?

I just bought a brand new Aceed
For $299 on sale at Dicks sporting last week.
That's a hell of a deal! Was it an advertised price or just came across it in store? Every time I've looked at their ads they've been at least what Amazon costs.
@@BowflexWorkouts No I went in last month and they were on sale for 499 regular price was
799 then I went in last week and the price dropped to 299 so I grabbed one.I was like Damn lol
They are still on sale for $299 @ Dicks until Jan. 1st
@@fabbdadd Insane. Doesn't look like it's an online deal, but I'll update my pinned post.
Does the squat attachment come with it or do you have to purchase separately?
Comes with it.
Don't the nylon rods wear out?
Yes, but see this video ruclips.net/video/1yJCOLfRo2I/видео.html

I found one today for twenty bucks.
What a deal!
i got mine for 120
That's a steal!
It is the old version. After seeing your video, I assembled it incorrectly. But I will correct it and start my road to working out
You are supposed to be ON THE PLATFORM when doing a squat! You could pull the machine over doing like that!
Good call!. I usually do, but must have overlooked that since I was going light for the recording session.
Pulleys cut weight in half
That can be true, but not the case with this design. 1 foot pulled = 1 foot movement of weight.

Anyone who would buy those expensive digital/ video display gyms , and pay a monthly fee to boot, is insane or just plain dumb. Bowflex simplicity is way better.
The smart home gyms are really good, they're just expensive. It just comes down to how you want to spend your money.
why have the scrawny guy do this
Why make a rude post like this
@@BowflexWorkouts i mean it’s like having a bjj white belt being the star of a instructional bjj training video. it just seems off. nothing against u it’s just a situational thing.
Thanks!
You keep pacing back and forth. Do you have to piss real bad?
