SAVE LA'AU! Great video, I love when the communities voices are put in video. It's about the community and the choices the residents have made to live and work on the island. If the residents wanted more jobs they could move to another island if they want to. No need for more expensive housing! Go Moloka'i! I love you

Very well done! We come to Aloha Music Camp twice a year, hiked to La'au on our last visit. We were in awe of the beauty, watching a dozen Hawaiian Monk Seals basking in the sun & playing in the water. The Mana of this place is powerful & we felt what Brother IZ used to call "Hawaiian at Heart". As visitors, we have a responsibility to support the residents of Molokai & help protect this special place from the development that has so drastically changed the other islands. Beautiful video!

I never been to Molokai, but It's impressive to see the people stand together.... keep up da fight... no let Molokai turn into Oahu.... I born and raised on Oahu , and sad to say this not Oahu anymore, feel like the mainland already... Aloha people of molokai 🤙🏽

Much respect to the people of Molokai who chose preserving the land over money and the negative impact to their culture. Working within your community I hope you can find ways of offering on a very limited basis and with very low impact, opportunities for environmentally minded visitors/tourists who can help support individual families and local stores. The key is any development must be owned by the community and the locals are the receivers of any profits. It cannot be owned by outsiders or even a few locals, it must be a group ownership. Everyone should benefit for any eco-tourist development or offerings. Best wishes from the mainland in New Jersey.
YES! Molokai don't need any millionaires and their houses which have already infected Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii. It has made housing so expensive that none of the locals can afford to live in their own island anymore. Leave Molokai alone. Its beautiful as it is. Go to the other four island if you want the luxury Hawaii lifestyle.
Had no idea that they were struggling so much it's almost as if like Maui. I hate to see this change I want to see Hawaii residents and people keep what they have ..it is sacred

What is the status of this plan now? I'm on my honeymoon right now in Molokai and I am absolutely loving it purely because of how quiet it is here. I'm from Mainland America so this is all so new to me. Right when we got here though, I started seeing signs talking about La'au scam and what not and came across this video because I was wondering what it was about. I really hope this doesn't happen. The reason we chose this island is because it isn't a tourist trap like the other islands.
My mother and grandmother are buried at Ho'olehua and my great grandmother at Kalaupapa. When I go to visit them I want to be in Hawai'i, not a bastardized resort town with a bunch of rich folks who retired to Moloka'i. I hope the politicians and leaders in the state realize the impact that turning La'au into a housing development is going to have on the islands culture. I already live on the main land. Please don't try to turn Moloka'i into something it's not! Keep it Hawaiian. REAL Hawai'i.

Good mana'o, but "Most Hawaiian Island" not intended to imply that. Its a nickname given to Molokai by, i hate to say it, the visitor industry. Didn't use it for this reason, though. Used it to reinforce the fact that majority of Molokai residents are Hawaiian, an indicator that Hawaiian culture and values prevail here... unlike other islands where non-Hawaiians and outside values now dominate. Sorry if the choice of words bring offense... but it's not the intention. Mahalo!

i'm sorry you have so much anger. i take full responsibility for my participation in the effort to save la`au. i have also been working for 4 years to help find a better solution to the development plan. also, please consider that the insults you give you also put on hundreds of others, including the many kupuna who oppose the development. would you call them "dumb ass hypocrites" too? better we remain positive and find ways to come together to find solutions that work.

The aina (island) is not your PROPERTY!!! This is our land that our Kings and Queens rightfully inherited and this land is to be RESPECTED. Not revenue, ROI, and hotels with crowded tourism where you will bring drugs to the forefront,people wanting to move there and it will NOT be in the best interest on the islands or the people.
Our people did nothing to anyone to be disturbed of our culture and our daily lives. More importantly, Queen Lili'uokalani signed a treaty & forbade.
As a mainland outsider that has visited the beautiful islands of Hawaii, I support the locals of Molokai for standing up against the cancer of development. Just look at a satellite view of Oahu, and Molokai, and see for yourself the destruction of humans.
Keep Hawaii lands for Hawaiian people.

Why fight projects that would bring jobs, and economic stability? They were going to build 200 luxury homes as well as normal homes, and designate thousands of acres to never be touched. This was not good enough? Some people can never be pleased, no matter what. Welfare is not a way of life! To all the people who think you can't have responsible controlled development, please do not except any more government handouts.
What makes you think they all recieve handouts? You think all natives are need handouts from America? These people can live off the land and still survive. When your dollar is worth less than a rupee and your stock market crashes, these Hawaiians will still be here.
Most of our Native Hawaiians won't be able to afford these homes.

Develop Hawai'i for Hawai'ians and Hawai'ians at heart not for the foreigners or for the wealthy. Money isn't everything. Stop raping the aina already. Why does Molokai ranch own so much of the island? Hawaiians take back your rightful lands. Because you paid for the land doesnt mean its yours. Hawai'i is Hawaiian land period.
