World Soil Day 2023 - Caring for soil is caring for life

Soil is alive. Earthworms, fungi, bacteria and larger animals like moles call soil their home. In only a spoonful of soil, we can find millions of organisms. Nutrients and water that are crucial for plants’ survival and growth are provided to the plants‘ roots through the soil.
Within the ETH-Soil project, we use biochar as the base for biofertilizers. Loaded with nutrients from compost or biogas digestate, biochar has the potential to bring long-lasting improvement to degraded soils.
