Honestly, in the face of Colaps' precision, every small mistake by the opponent becomes a lot more obvious. King Inertia made a few big mistakes in this one, and that's why I fully support the 5-0 decision. Colaps executed some of the most difficult beatboxing we've ever heard as close to flawlessly as humanely possible. Totally deserved this win, and in my opinion the 1st place as well!
A lot of beatbox react / analysis content out there, but I always look forward to hearing your takes and insight. Hope you continue to do these as I think it will help all of us be better beatboxers. Cheers!
The stare down between inertia and colappy around 6:30 and colaps calling inertia out for biting were my two favourite parts out of GBB21, really felt like a veteran standing up and reminding the newcoming titan where he stands. Brilliant battle regardless of the unfortunate fall off towards the end of inertia's second round.
For me it was "obvious" Colaps was going to win at the end of KI's first round. 5:03 , he fails to trigger his inward bass (like he does at 5:06 ) and that was a major mistake where Colaps was on point for the whole battle.
When I was watching the livestream I said "yup, he lost" the moment his inward bass failed in his first round. Colaps just executed everything flawlessly while being far more complex than King Inertia. If King Inertia performed his rounds perfectly I think this would've been closer but this is a clear 5-0.
@@blassinmas9878 He made another mistake during the double spit snare, but it was a small mistake and not a big one because he managed to go through 4 bars
Colaps commented on SBX's Short featuring his 'bite' call out, and turns out Colaps taught that to Inertia back in like 2018-19. I remember the first I heard the z-scratch stuff from Inertia I was like doesn't Colaps do that? Turns out yuuuup
I only realised how good Colaps was this year, after I saw the video he did with Maddox teaching him those amazing combos and then afterwards rewatching all his battles at this GBB. Big up Colaps, you killed it!
Inertia reminds me a lot of 2019 codfish in a sense that he is famous for a single craft and he had a great solo elimination and then did good through the first 2 battles and then lost third and got fourth but I hope that inertia doesn’t “retire” and that he keeps going and competing… (has anyone heard from codfish recently???)
7:45 He is doing throat bass with gargling. The sound Fredy Beats does sometimes however Inertia is doing the gargle with a somewhat tighter tension. It's kind of simple really.
I feel like Inertia didn’t really take advantage of the fact he ranked 1st in the eliminations, his style doesn’t really let him counter, but maybe that’s because he’s so unique at what he does!
Yeah or because he just isn't capable of doing what his opponents do, just like colaps cant counter inward bass. Im not calling him a onetrick but compared to many top beatboxers hes probably got the least variation
@@drawspaceX while he lacks variation his tracks will still hit hard no matter what. Guy is honestly the ultimate beatboxer when it comes to a live showcase.
For me Colaps was definitely the best throughout the whole competition. his structure, timing and tech was by far the closest thing to perfection ever. Only heard a few minor mistakes with one somewhat major through every battle from him. truly amazing. plus, all of his routines sounded exactly as they did on music videos which are rehearsed and can take many takes. Now that is talent.
I really got to admit that the sound quality of Inertia is insane. Though I prefer the higher variance and PRECISION of Colaps 😅. I just recognized, that Inertias flows are sometimes not on beat. Perhaps because he choose sound over precision which fair and square proved him right several times. But what can I say I'm German, I just like it when a set is tight and needly put together, especially when it is such high class technical round of Colaps 🤷🏻. And what I really like about Colaps (at least so far at GBB 21) is the fact that he is really humble on stage. Of course he is turning to his opponents when he is battling, but when it's his opponents turn he just takes it as fair man. No faking of "could be better" or "he's just doing 3 sound at the same time". He even appreciates his opponents. So what can you say about this DUDE. Probably the only thing is his basses that aren't as strong as the rest of his skills.
I wasnt a fan of inertia's structure in the second round and he clearly ran out of material in the last 15-20 seconds of his second round, he slipped on a bassline part, his zipper thing didnt come out clearly and because he ran out, he did the normal slizzer roll thing. So he was very all over the place for me whereas colaps was very planned out and precise in everything he did. Hence his second routine 'precision' was a direct attack on inertia because inertia lacked precision in his sets. And also inertia's scratch sounds which colaps showed the bite for was actually were actually inspired by colaps, and colaps was the one who actually showed inertia that technique.
If Inertia did the second round in the same orchestrated style as the first and made the first one a tad more interesting, I wouldn’t have been able to decide. Before Inertia’s second round, it just felt like it was obvious Colaps put more thought and time into his sets, all intricacies included. Amazing battle! We’re in the Golden Age 👑
It was in this battle that King Inertia was finally defeated! Colaps' variety of skill and routines is great, King Inertia's inward bass attacking style is also great, but I think he would be a strong opponent if he had more skill! I loved Colaps' second round routine! What do the lyrics say? Yeah, they were both great!🔥
As someone who doesn’t know much about beatboxing I preferred King Inertias and I think he would be most peoples favourite too just from a mere musical standpoint and not on technical difficulty or anything like that.

I've been waiting for this one. 1st time I heard this I gave it to King Inertia, 2nd time I gave it to Colaps. I do not envy the judges having to decide here. Seems to me after listening the 3rd time (about to listen to Dlows breakdown) that the decision made was correct. Once King Inertia gets a bit more experience, and rounds out his sets, he'll be unstoppable. Unbelievable battle. PS you know it's a great set when most of the people in the audience look like they just smelt the grimiest of farts. Matter of fact that'd prolly be the easiest way to judge, just count the number of faces that get twisted into that "smelt a rank fart" face. Biggest number wins 😁
Being a self taught beatboxer for 2 years and having lessons for 2 years prior, inertia did have a repeating style, but the 5-0 probably wasn't a fair voting point after myself and my beatbox teacher going over it. we thought inertia would have at least scored twice or a draw.

I think if King Inertia took a more technical approach for this battle, it may have been a slightly closer decision making process because he does have unique tech combos. But Colaps probably would've won anyway since throughout this GBB, all of his rounds are new, original pieces.
With time I've realised that surely inertia repeats inward bass but his inward bass is not normal. It's soul melting inward bass. For instance that demonic inward bass growl at 7:33 I mean I agree with dlow what is that? It's just so demonic and amazing and cool. One thing is sure that you can't counter inertia and beat him at inward bass. He is just god in inward bass. The 13:39 that inertia did was in the helium battle I think.
Inertia's rounds start well, but at the end he goes to something very diferent from the routine he started, if he keeped the same vibe to begining until end, he could have won! great battle, colaps really deserved this one, he start all his round well, and finish it better yet.
I feel like whenever an artist "bites" their opponent in a battle, it's actually a battle tactic. I may be wrong, but I think biting in battles is the artist saying "I'm going to do you're style, but better". I don't see Inertia biting as a problem.
If its a bite or not, in this case it's used as a counter, a way Inertia uses it and can be amazing doing it so. For me, that scores points to both (specially for who comes second). Like you said in the start of the video, they shouldn't counter each other. Even if Inertia starts to feel repetitive, his second round was different, with new sounds and arrangement. If Inertia didn't fail some (normally) end or transition notes, for me, he should be the winner of this battle (counting that Colaps didn't fail even if he's still have some repetitive moments in is kit and this battle too).
I thought these rounds for inertia were his weakest compared to past rounds. It would have been a huge fail in my opinion for this to have gone to inertia given the consistent wow from collaps on his rounds throughout the competition. Much love to both artists and of course this is just my opinion.
I think you have gone literally insane lol, I dont think anyone has ever even heard of that bass before from inertia, and he destroyed people and his pitching was incredible. watch ur words buddy.
Such a bad take here, dlow literally said that the style is repetitive but timeless... while I agree colaps should have won, I think we can safely say that the opponents inertia faced along the way here were so tough that he had to use his best routines to make it through. These rounds seem weak but were probably experimental and less known, but still dope in the end
@@zteir lol your welcome to think I’m insane, that’s the beauty of free thought and opinion. What I did not say is that his bass isn’t amazing or that his style isn’t great. Much love to both artists and of course this is just my opinion.
I think you have gone literally insane lol, I dont think anyone has ever even heard of that bass before from inertia, and he destroyed people and his pitching was incredible. watch ur words buddy.
@@zteir well he didn't destroy Colaps and Footbox that's for sure
Lol I personally thought these were his best rounds, showed a lot of diversity
Such a bad take here, dlow literally said that the style is repetitive but timeless... while I agree colaps should have won, I think we can safely say that the opponents inertia faced along the way here were so tough that he had to use his best routines to make it through. These rounds seem weak but were probably experimental and less known, but still dope in the end
@@zteir lol your welcome to think I’m insane, that’s the beauty of free thought and opinion. What I did not say is that his bass isn’t amazing or that his style isn’t great. I said his elimination was incredible don’t think I’m saying inertia isn’t an amazing beat boxer. What I said was is after his elimination it fell flat for me, it seemed like the same routine over and over with minor variations.
inertia vs dlow I hope someday ❤
