- Sonny & Cher open the show with "You Are the Sunshine of My Life." The clip contains the entire opening sequence of the episode broadcast 3/7/76, including "The Beat Goes On" slate that preceded the opening number, which was used during the first season (it was not used in season 2 (1976-1977). At the end of the song, the rear camera also shows how the studio audience was situated in Studio 41 at CBS' Television City.
You can tell Cher is pregnant here. She looks radiant and so does Sonny! Their chemistry on the show was fire!!!

Cher had a lot more confidence and she looked far more relaxed with Sonny there.

That was so weird. I was little at the time, so I didn't notice, but that must have been hard for Sonny to stand up there & be funny, with his, newly pregnant, newly ex-wife., Wow! Times were weird, I guess. Times are pretty strange now. How she did it all & had a life is astounding. I got beat up in school because they found I'd written Mr. Cher on all my books & I had love letters I'd written during class because we moved all the time & I had no idea what they were talking about. School was not my thing. Cher was my thing. 😂😂
Cher admitted that they had a strange relationship, in that she couldn't quite let go of him, even though they were with other parties, and obviously, I think that was her son Elijah in her stomach from her Gregg Allman marriage. she said that she just had a love hate thing and that Sunny was too controlling. she still loved him in a way, too. it was just weird.
They sang so well together especially when serious. I am so glad Sonny is still doing his remarkable work here on earth. Saving the Salton Sea in California. God Bless you Sonny.God Bless you too Cher.

Oh, thank you for posting! This is the closest I've come in finding this particular episode with the puppet sketch McLean is in called, "A Woman Behind Every Man." I would love to see this trio's take on the famous puppets of old called Punch and Judy.
Sad to hear those 2 sing a song such as that to each-other... after their marriage split! Tragic that somehow they couldn't have found a way to work things out to remain married.
It is an odd song for them to sing & for Sonny to be extra attentive when it's obvious she's pregnant.
He wouldn’t re - write their contract to 50/50 : their contract was 95% to him and 5 % when they to their solicitor - she had nothing !! Not very fair - but there was so much more !!! Really sad 😞 ~. Together publicly they were awesome 😎 😍😎🇦🇺 I love them 😍 Cher was every bit the success she deserved 👍 RIP Sonny

Oh dear! his infidelity play a big part then she found out she didn’t earn a cent he owned 95% of the business the solicitor the 5% after finding out all that she then said forget that contract let’s go 50/50 and he said NO so she said forget it. Obviously there was so much more but this is the offical version - pressure for both of them was intense plus the press I felt so sorry for both of them they were a very positive powerful couple I loved them still do 🌹🌹🌹🌹🇦🇺😎
