  • In this tutorial, you will learn how to build a 3D keyboard from scratch using modeling tools, material assets, and the Key Down/Up events.
    Check Spline: spline.design/
☀️Update: Spline has improved a lot since we made this tutorial, and now, a couple of new features will enable you to follow this tutorial much faster.
    1. The new Key Press event combines the Key Up and Key Down, so you only need to define it once.
    2. With the new Components feature, you can duplicate an object and maintain the interactions on the duplicate (so you only need to build one Key).
Tutorial about components here: • How to design and use ...
    0:00 Introduction
    1:05 Modeling a 3D key
    4:15 Adding material assets
6:10 Create the text in the keys
    7:35 Creating the orange key
    10:30 Making the keyboard base
    13:50 Adding interaction events

Hi everyone! You can now achieve this tutorial 8x times faster! ☀
    - The new Key Press event combines the Key Up and Key Down, so you only need to define it once.
    - With the new Components feature you can duplicate an object and maintain the interactions on the copies (so you only need to build one Key). Tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/VSddFnDjPUA/видео.html
    - Also, the UI improved so much since this video was released. The transition parameters are now inside of the "Transition" action. It is now possible to have sequential transitions, as well as multiple actions per event.

For anyone coming to this after the software updated and having trouble with the smooth/edit on the key, what you need to do is before clicking on smooth and edit, reduce the corner values and this should make it function more like it does in this tutorial.

I was sent here by the Spline team, because the new Polaroid tutorial was way too fast for me to keep up. For anyone trying this tutorial for the first time around the time of this comment, you can still basically do everything the instructor does in the video. Just be aware that if you're using the basic version of Spline, you wont be able to change the duration of the animation transitions unless you get the premium version from what I understand. The animation will still work albeit much slower (you have to hold the button down)
To get a quick and dirty understanding of how modeling works with animation, this video does a decent job but I wouldn't use it as a guide to understand lighting concepts. Im sure there are better videos that focus on that.

I was stuck at minute 1:55 because I couldn't do inset to all the vertices at the same time and it was because spline gives the figure eight corners by default. I've taken an interest in Spline and have been trying to learn through various tutorials. This will be my last comment regarding the quality and structure of these tutorials. I find the constant back-and-forth quite frustrating, as I'm sure many students, like myself, follow the tutorials click by click. When the instructor goes back to make tweaks, we need to spend more time stopping, going back, and fixing things.
I would greatly appreciate a clearer structure and less improvisation in the tutorials. This would make them not only more valuable but also shorter and more concise. Additionally, I've noticed that there's often a lack of explanation for certain choices, like why two gradient layers were chosen for the key, or the reason for moving the light. Providing explanations for these details would be extremely helpful, as it would save us time on additional research and enhance the tutorial's purpose.

    • @ashleyrose1570

oh my god, i could not agree more. As someone new to 3d design I just want to understand the logic behind tools like loop cut and in depth use cases for it rather than just get straight to creating something. So that I can quickly go over those and start working on my own projects rather than spend time creating 20 other things.

    • @Dylanjn2301
      @Dylanjn2301 Год назад +1

@@ashleyrose1570 not so much spline related but tutorials by Grant Abbit and polygonrun way for blender might be what your are looking for. They are some of the best tutorials I came across when I was starting out with blender. They also explain the logic of everything they do.
Blender isn't hard to learn. It's quite easy actually. I haven't used spine yet so can't compare how much easier spline is but the blender process isn't hard at all for beginners. I started a few years ago knowing absolutely nothing and now can make mostly anything I can imagine and all I really did was start with tutorials from the above creators I mentioned

The guy barely explains anything - he just clicks around assuming that what he's doing is obvious and even at 0.75 speed it's essentially impossible to watch while you execute it.
This is NOT an introduction to Spline - it assumes prior knowledge and lots of patience to try to make sense of what is being said / done.

When I share my project link, the keypress events are not being registered on another PC.

Can you export the model and state events (assuming as a js file)? Great work

Any way you could try creating a treasure chest opening if you hover your mouse over it? Maybe something coming out of the chest too? Think it would be cool to see this 👍🏼

Trying out Spline and I am a little stuck here, I am at the stage where I am adding interactions. I made one of the Key as components then duplicated it and tried to overwrite the event.
I was able to change the no.2 Key to press 2 but I was not able to change the action. So now if I press 1 or 2 only "Key 1" is responding to the press stage but not "Key 2". Hope that makes sense
