No disrespect intended but you need to take these extreme claimed ages with a grain of salt. For example, only one person in history has been VERIFIED to live to at least 120 and she was the Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment. Only one man has been VERIFIED to live to see his 116th birthday. These are some of the things that happened in the year he was born; Minnesota became the 32nd U.S. state, Dallas became a city (incorporated) in Texas, the Treaty of Paris is signed which ended the Crimean War, Lawrence, Kansas is captured and burned by pro-slavery forces, The Great Train Wreck (the worst railroad disaster in the world to date) occurs in Pennsylvania, Democrat James Buchanan becomes the 15th President of the United States defeating the new fledgling political party called "Republicans", Kate Warne, the first female private detective, begins to work for the Pinkerton Detective Agency, Sigmund Freud and Nikola Tesla are born along with Woodrow Wilson who will become the 28th President of the United States, and finally, the British Guiana 1 cent magenta postage stamp is issued. There is only one left and it happens to be the world's rarest stamp. I would have loved to have been able to speak with Pop and photograph him. But when did Otto "Pop Carter die? @Brian I was 5 when JFK was assassinated and I have vivid memories of that day. Vivid memories of the Beatles coming to Australia in 64 when I was 6. I think the only reason he may not remember the civil war would be due to the difference in information spreading from those times till now.
As some people here in the comments already suspect, Otto Carter was a liar. He claimed to be born on January 5th 1856 in Upland, Indiana (some sources likes this TV show appearance name San Antonio, Texas, as his birthplace). Actually, he was born as Otto Don Marine on August 8th 1887 in Upland, Indiana, so the birthplace was right. His older brother Fred Marine was born on January 5th 1885, that's where he took the birthdate from. Their father Solomon Marine died young, I couldn't really find reliable info on the date yet. In 1893, their mother Sarah Almeada Tweedy re-married, and her second husband was a man named Millard Filmore Carter. Millard F. Carter was born in 1856, and that's where Otto Carter got his fake birthyear. So: his own birthplace + his step-fathers birthyear + his brothers birthdate. Sometime after 1900, Otto Don Marine took his stepfathers surname Carter. In 1906 the family moved from Indiana to San Francisco, where Otto (then called Otto Marine Carter!) married 18-year old Ellen D. Carr in May of 1907 at the age of 19. The marriage probably didn't last long, but I haven't found any reliable info on Ellen D. Carr yet. She might have re-married in 1913, but I'm not sure yet if it's the same woman. So far I haven't seen any indication that there were children from this marriage Between 1910 and 1920, Otto's step-father Millard Filmore Carter and Otto's mother Sarah Almeada Tweedy got divorced. In the 1920 census, Otto is living in San Francisco with his mother, who claims to be widowed. Millard Filmore Carter died on January 3d 1944 in Los Angeles, the death certificate correctly states that he was divorced. From 1923 to 1926, Otto Carter had to serve a prison sentence at San Quentin prison. There's a picture taken of him when he was put into that prison, where it's clearly visible that this is the same man who appeared on the You Bet Your Life Show in 1958. In the 1930 census, Otto Carter lived in San Francisco with his mother, just like in 1920. In 1940, he lived at the State Soldiers Home Lafayette in Indiana. Maybe his mother passed away between 1930 and 1940? I couldn't find any record of her death yet. The mentions of Otto Carter being an old skater, born in 1856, range from 1949 (alleged age 93) to 1963 (alleged age 107). To be fair, it's impressive that he apparently kept that lie alive for at least 14 years. When he appeard on You Bet Your Life in 1958, claiming to be 102 years old, he was actually just 71 years old. It's interesting to me how he looks down immediately after he is asked if he is 70 years old. Otto Don Carter passed away on April 7th 1966, at the age of 78 years.

What an awesome man and family!!!❤❤❤
No disrespect intended but you need to take these extreme claimed ages with a grain of salt.
For example, only one person in history has been VERIFIED to live to at least 120 and she was the Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment.
Only one man has been VERIFIED to live to see his 116th birthday. He was a Japanese man who lived 116 years and 54 days.
The ages you give have almost certainly NOT been verified by the proper groups.
Groucho was probably one of the funniest men ever. Very dry & clever. 👍👍
That was when America was great!!
A fabulous comedian
The best Grouch and Marx brothers

Huh?...what...?
Don't forget back then TV shows like this never fact-checked their guess, even nowadays that's an issue.
@William Johnson Oh, is that so? I almost want to delete my previous comment I just left, but I guess it's still true so I'll leave it.😅

I loved the women's hairdos back then , very sexy and feminine. Bring them back ladies !!!
On a Letterman show, Letterman said that people from the audience should be guests. He never did it, but this is as close as any show has gotten and it’s quite good. This was way before my time, but it’s better then most game shows or late night shows you see because the average folk are more interesting than the boring stars. And that old man was the best!
TV was much better then. Now it is truly horrifying and not worth the effort. You Tube provides us with the entertainment we enjoy.
100% true, miss Johnny Carson too
I am very grateful to the uploader for these outstanding videos. Groucho Marx was certainly one of a kind.

@@grouchomarx-youbetyourlife7476 This the first time I have ever watched Groucho Marx. I started last night and couldn't stop watching all night. I loved it and just now after midnight it pops up again. I laughed out loud. One thing I noticed, he reminded me of Johnny Carson. Then I realized maybe Johnny was immating him. The mannerisms were so similar. Johnnys' timing was brilliant just like Groucho. They were so funny naturally, with a casual flair. Clean words with dirty innuendo was hilarious. Thank you for sharing. I am going to search for more..... 03/04/2021
@@jancoley9051 I'm sure Carson was influenced by Groucho, but Johnny claimed that Jack Benny had always been his idol. Both Jack and Groucho were masters of the slow burn and getting the most out of long pauses and facial gestures.
If you don't know about Jack Benny you might enjoy the 1970 Friars Club Roast of him that is here on RUclips.

★ 13:08 This man, Otto "Pop" Carter, was born BEFORE the United States Civil War! He was born in 1858 and the Civil War started in 1861. Imagine if during the civil war someone would have told this guy "Some day there will be a thing called TV, it's like a photograph, only it's animated and it's live and it's in everyone's houses and there will be TV shows and you will be on one of these shows and people all over America will be watching you at the same time. Also, the moving pictures of you will be saved, and in the year 2016, over 40 thousand people will watch you again, on a thing called the internet. Many of those viewers will be watching you while they are flying, driving or laying in bed on their telephones. Oh, also, there will be a guy who took an interest in you and looked up event that happened in the year of your birth, and other people read what he wrote about you and they thumbed up his comment and subscribed to him (hint hint, lol) and now you have a bit of immortality Bob.
I know he lived to be at least 106 however I can find no mention of his death anywhere.

So far I haven't seen any indication that there were children from this marriage
Between 1910 and 1920, Otto's step-father Millard Filmore Carter and Otto's mother Sarah Almeada Tweedy got divorced.
