Hey, I've been fishing in NC for a while (parents and friends are local) but I want to start getting my own gear, for inshore stuff, primarily in the Southport area, what would be the average type of rod people would use for red fish, black drum, flounder, etc. I was figuring Medium/Heavy rod, 20-50lb, fast action? 4000 series reel? Am I far off? Just trying to get started.
For inshore fishing i love a 7'-7'6" medium fast action rod, 3000 size reel, 10-15lb braid and 20-40lb leader depending if you're fishing around docks, rocks or anything that could damage your line
Nice grand slam buddy. Next time i'm down that way i'll message you and we can go catch some fish. I live in the Outer Banks, might move down that way in the next couple years.
hell yea dude. I fished Cape Fear river south of Wilmington and targeted a redfish with just dead shrimp, saw one jump around near a creek so i threw it right at it. CAUGHT IT. Like 18-19 inches. Second biggest fish I ever caught. Then caught a flounder like two weeks later which was a first. I felt that excitement when you caught the speckled trout. I still have yet to catch my first one but hopefully soon.

What river? Maybe what boat ramp, understandable if not, but I just bought my first boat and wanted to try.

@@jamiehegarty_ bro I didn't even know that existed. Thanks dude, I was gonna go down tomorrow to fish in Wilmington near Kure Beach then maybe Cape Fear River at the Sharktooth Island launch but this looks more interesting.
