I've been enjoying your guitar videos for a while now. I just bought my first woodwind instrument, and coming across this channel is like stumbling into a parallel universe
dude i bought a flute years ago, listening to jethro tull thought i'd give it a go,kinda hard to stick with it,i recon i'll dig it out again man, nice one for the videos
Very impressive! I hope you will post again, since it looks like 4 years ago. I am a flutist who never knew the physics of playing the instrument. Thank you for making this educational video. I am adding you to my flute resources list. Awesome 💖
Colin, This is freakin great man! Funny enough, I got a tin whistle for Christmas that I am slowly learning to play the thing! I also have several harmonicas too! This would be due to my love of the Pogues and Americana music. In addition to this I also have have branched out to percussion. I got a Pearl Boombox cajon. I have shakers, a tambourine, and various other percussive side instruments. I also got a Meinl bongo cajon that I adorned with decals from one of my favorite artists named Shag with tikis, ghouls, and tiki drummers. So I can legitimately say that I Shagged my bongo cajon and can back it up with pictures!😜 April Fools from the Wild West my Scottish amigo!!!😎
A cousin of mine is a music teacher and he played the flute in several orchestras. I mean, he's good at it as far as I know. So, many years ago when he had already been learning for a while, I was at his home with the rest of the family and he let us try and play the flute. I couldn't even give a single note. Absolutely no sound whatsoever, no matter how hard I tried. Man are they hard to play.
Great video :D How do flute makers know how much space to put between the holes? And I wonder especially how ancient people achieved a somewhat coherent scale on things like antlers and bones.
Hello. I play guitar solos on an intermediate level. and for some time I've been thinking of learning to play flute. I don't have much time and I plan to do this as a hobby. is the flute more dificult to learn and play than a guitar? and I don't mean here just playing chords on a guitar but solos too.
Hello thank you very much for this great video im studying physics about sound waves and flute but still i donot know the dynamic of flute depends on what in a certain note?it depends on amplitude or the majaroty of air pressurr that we use? How can we rise amplitude by blowing harder much air or what and what is reason please answer me im fully confused
Interesting, I'm playing Pennywhistle myself and even have a Fife. But somehow I can't seem to get any decent sound out of that Fife. Can you make a starting flute video explaining how to get a Fife or similar to sound at all? And make a video about the gear you use to record or amplify the sound on stage. I think both of us could learn and use some tricks with it. Quit often I get the same amount of wind as I hear in your video, but I still don't know how to avoid that. Cheers mate, just subscribed after your #GTU18 video learning Henning to blow🎶.
but...... WILL IT SHRED...... but if this is seriously you playing, congrats on the unexpected diversity, from the rock scales to some great flute......unexpected but impressive....
Man wtf i watched the entire video before looking at the comments. I just assumed he was a flute youtuber. Nary a thought in my mind that (as far as i can tell) he was a guitar youtuber and this is a semijoke side channel. context is crazy i know i had a very different reaction to this video than a lot of yall

Colin, a man who can play mindblowing guitar and heartbreaking flute.
Get yourself a man who can do both.
His kind is endangered, we must preserve them!
I thought you were taking the piss but you're actually bloody good at this.
me too
Oh my Colin 😮 your fingering technique is impressive
Even if this is a joke I think putting a spotlight on many acoustic insterments would be great.
Nice Kerry K to Kenny G transition. What's next? CSTriangle?
CSBanjo
CSsitar
CSGong
CSCowbell
CSxylophone
For some hard xjenting
People think this is some sorta joke, but this was actually just a genius way to kickstart your new channel.
Please, let this channel live and keep uploading. Loved it.
I used this earlier today to teach my 6th graders how the flute works. Cheers!
I have a sudden and inexplicable urge to learn flute

Yeah, so I'll be subscribing to this channel just in case you keep doing stuff.
This was absolutely wonderful.
I've been playing the flute for 10 years and only now wondered how it worked.. so thank you! I'm also a metal guitarist and saxophonist (:
This flute stuff looks like something you wanted to do for a long time. And it's actually awesome! ...and Star Wars! Love it!
I've been enjoying your guitar videos for a while now. I just bought my first woodwind instrument, and coming across this channel is like stumbling into a parallel universe
This doesn't even surprise me. The flute goes with his accent. Keep up the good work CSFlutes!!
wait, you can actually play the flute? ok, that's new! any chance of collaborating with rob scallon. he loves crazy nuts like you!
As a recorder player of 25 years, this is a much better explanation of technique than I try to give.
Let the jokes begin. God bless Jethro Tull and how do you get more gain on a flute?
This is actually nice! I laughed at this but actually enjoyed it...DELIGHTFUL!
Colin, my boi. It's stuff like this that makes you my favorite musician on RUclips.
For some fucking reason I'm interested
dude i bought a flute years ago, listening to jethro tull thought i'd give it a go,kinda hard to stick with it,i recon i'll dig it out again man, nice one for the videos

Finally, my life-long quest of understanding the underrated majesty of the world's most magnificent instrument has been achieved!
Love the Star Wars tribute in the intro❤️
Slide whistle shows the effect of changing length nicely!
May I request a cover of a flute section by Genesis (Peter Gabriel era)? ^^
Great effort by the way - wasn't expecting an actual channel with videos! - When can we expect t-shirts?
As far as April Fool's Day jokes go, this is pretty elaborate, and I love it.
Great video!!
This was perfect as I am writing an essay about flutes for music class.
I'm waiting for CSviolin channel😯😊
Your embrachure is how you hold your mouth tho... nice new channel btw
This is my method of determining if any real musicians are watching.

April Fools from the Wild West my Scottish amigo!!!😎
Lol, I though this was going to be a quick April fool but you've gone to incredible lengths with This!
That orchestral flute sounds so good... How much do these cost? Any good brands?
this is so helpful thank you!
You rock that flute! I want more of this :D
Mate this is fantastic

Ian Anderson would approve. At first I thought it was a April fools joke.

How cool is that! Love it -
This was excellent
You should continue this.
I want you to continue this channel, maybe as a miscellaneous instruments channels
Hi Colin what brand and model Concert Flute do you play? Thanks Greg S.

In your next video you should hook the flute up to a mic with a max level Boss HM-2. I'd love to hear that sound!
I thought this was a gag, but now I've learned some science, and that's cool.
I should put my guitar down and pick up my old sax. Thanks for the inspiration!
Please don't stop making these.
very interresting, thanks dude
can you make a video on different ways to boost the distortion on a flute
Are you scooping the mids on your flute?
I know this is a joke but it's also genuinely interesting. Next topic: the flute shred techniques of Ian Anderson! lol
How can I get a good metal tone out of my flute?
No winds, all the vane?
Interesting, I'm playing Pennywhistle myself and even have a Fife. But somehow I can't seem to get any decent sound out of that Fife. Can you make a starting flute video explaining how to get a Fife or similar to sound at all?

U r a great flute player
but......
WILL IT SHRED......
but if this is seriously you playing, congrats on the unexpected diversity, from the rock scales to some great flute......unexpected but impressive....
And another issue for me is that why when we drop the jaw in flute pitch goes down or when ee pull the jaw forward pith go higher?
Why does plugging holes other than in descending order make it do those other notes?
I thought this was a joke but holy shit, it's real. I know because I play flute as well. Nice work dude!
The best April Fool's jokes are the ones that turn out to be real.
...And involve woodwinds.
You...were serious.........bwahahaha
In my sleep starved, dissertation writing, state of mind... I have no idea if this is even really happening...
but I kinda dig it.
Knowing how a sound is made on a flute, can ANY straw-like object be used as a flute?
That was so cool
Ok, Colin has gone full Tull on us, but screw it. Ima going to sub anyway and learn more about the flute.
I learned so much from this video. Afterwards, I blasted Jethro Tull.
I wonder what it would sound like hooked up to a Triple Rec?
I’ve never wanted to learn how to play flute until now
nice video it make me pick up my plastic flute i had laying in the corner and see if i was able to play doom metal with it. wasn't able to .....
Man this was actually really interesting lol
I thought it was an april's fool joke, but I learned stuff ! and it was really interesting :-) Thanks !
Most in-depth April Fool’s joke. Haha ❤️
Great rendition of the Star Wars force theme.
Came here for shenanigans, stayed cause... Holy shit you can actually play the flute!
A lot of fingering and tonguing in this vid. Good effort!
This is the only april's fools that actually made me laugh haha!
Came for flute, stayed for flute science
3:47 Put a banana in your ear
Can you perhaps make a cover of locomotive breath? Would be fucking awesome!!
I am very simple to please: I hear Star Wars, I hit like. Really nice vid though!
a legit channel, totally not april fools im guessing....
Please do Jethro Tull covers!
Why only antinodes occur at free end
He's definitely prepared to defend against giant guinepirates and guinerabbits
Dear god it's actually true... sub'd
So.......know any Slayer on that thing?
He actually made a Chanel! I can't take it XD
What a coincidence, the same day I decided to start playing flute!
Soooo basically it's a funny looking trumpet
I play both flutes
woodwind and skin
