Interesting fact: In the same year 'A Bug's Life' came out, there was another insect themed kids movie released, called 'Antz'. (Both were released in 1998.) It happens quite a lot that two movies with a similar theme are released close to one another. A few examples are: 'Red Planet' & 'Mission To Mars' (2000), 'Armageddon' & 'Deep Impact' (1998). (Note I didn't say it was a 'fun fact' as a previous episode made clear how you feel about those.)
As someone who works in advertising, i can always recommend buying unbranded goods. The many millions companies spend on advertising and marketing are simply passed on to consumers instead of improving the product.
Dave talks on RHLSTP about Neil's reaction. It wouldn't work without quickly descending into a very heated exchange. Dave genuinely hates him, the whole reason they got in the Dr. who expert was to dilute the ire.
Final season everyone, let's make it count v.v Also holy crap those bootleg movies gave me flashbacks to a lot of bad movie reviews. I guess we finally found someone who was fooled by them.
We were always own brand in our house growing up because my Dad had worked at a well known brand during University and knew they put exactly the same stuff in supermarket own brand packaging too (not sure if thats still the case or if he was lying to save money- but that was the rational).
186 Doctor Who DVDs isn't unbelievable. There are currently over 870 episodes. So 186 DVDs isn't a lot, that's 4/5 episodes per disk, plus there are tons and tons of special features, Doctor Who home video releases are pretty great in the extras department.
Antz and A Bug's Life (Orignally just "Bugs") have an intertwined production history with a lot of deliberate muddying of the water between the films, so if you're referencing one you might as well reference the other. Half the time people mixed them up anyway while they were still in theatres, which was very much on purpose.
I heard that all the own brand versions of weetabix are all still made in the same place out of the same exact stuff. So not only are they made the same way, they are made by the same people. So just get the supermarket one because they are the same.
@Ross Bourne A DVD is a digital storage medium; the video on a DVD is digital. What you and Dave mean, I assume, is he copied the video from the DVD onto his computer. Note that _digitising_ is converting to digital something which is not digital.

The Searchers former lead singer Mike Pender had his own Searchers group at one point simply called Mike Penders Searchers. Meanwhile the real Searchers only have John McNally as the only original member. I've seen them and they're still as good as they were in the 60s
Did anyone else think the ensemble looked like they were only pretending to play their instruments? I thought that would be a big reveal at the end but it never came.
Great show still, series 5 already...Who is actually stupid enough to buy all that knock off stuff and keep it...Also they probably rely on info some of them give...Dave Gorman is good for making us lot not make these same mistakes
29:17 Umm. Yup. Guilty. Also, owning 186 Doctor Who DVDs is not difficult. The main range itself probably totals over a hundred just for the classic series. Then you have the new series. Then you have the spin offs, and 'unofficial' spin offs (which could arguably have also featured on this show).
I own the lot. The whole classic series, the new series, the spin-offs... My extremely long suffering wife (who is a decidedly *non* fictional entity) has been rolling her eyes about it for almost 30 years now... but, in fairness, she knew about my "quaint little obsession" (as she puts it) going in. Mind you, she drew the line in 2007, when, instead of a Christmas tree, I put up an inflatable Dalek and put the fairy lights and tinsel on that.... *that* nearly turned her into a fictional entity right there.
The thing about tribute acts is that they're pretending to be the act in their prime. You could pay a fortune to see your idols withering before you, simply unable to do what they used to be able to do. Or you could pay a fraction of the cost to see a younger act recreating that thing that made them famous in the first place.
You still don't get it. I grew up as a queen fan, after Freddie died someone told me they had for us tickets to a tribute act, which was horrific from start to finish.

Sorry Dave, but you chose a bad example. Elton John does not create his own music, Bernie Taupin does. So, following your reasoning, what percentage of Bernie Taupins DNA is in Elton John? Ahem, I'm not sure if I should have asked that question, what happens in Eltons bedroom is probably best left there. ;)
