You’re giving the Xterra a new lease on life and doing what you said you would do. Views or not, you keep it real. That’s why a lot of us keep coming back and watch everything from Citations to Big Block Chevelles. It’s a always different and we like coming along for the ride.
Thanks for the demonstration. Difficult position for an alternator. Great work. It is a very nice looking truck and with manual windows. A bonus. Hard to find that.
My 2011 Nissan Pathfinder SV has 153,200 miles on it now and doesn't leak anything at all has been the Best vehicle we have ever owned. That Blend door mine started doing that a couple of years ago it'll make that noise every once in awhile. The Storage door above the glove box will pop open once in awhile when you hit a bump my 12 year old swears there's a ghost just making it pop open to scare him. VDC Vehicle Dynamic Control for the ABS and Traction Control
I had a 2009 Nissan pathfinder, and it also had the VDC light on whenever I got it but what I found was if you press and hold the VDC button it'll turn the light off and the system back on
Hey Randy, just watched your video on the Nissan. Really enjoyed it and changing the alternator looked awkward. You accomplished a lot and those headlights look great !! Best video for a while. Keep up the good work 👍👍👍😎😎😎
Vdc is vehicle dynamic control like traction control usually cause by a steering angle sensor or abs sensor. But on rare occasions can be the steering rack
You’re a big inspiration to me. I watch you almost everyday. I am going to get me a fixer upper soon and start posting the process on here. Keep up the good work ❗️
Enjoyed you bring the Xterra back to life… “wrench every day”! And also, “make questionable decisions”! Enjoyed the alternator removal, never heard an F bomb on this channel before! (Ok maybe, just maybe when your trailer was stolen, but that was a looong time ago…)
I did that job last year with mine. About 3 hours job. Buy the way that one is identical to mine same color. Sure would love to have a his and hers. I also did the timing chain and gears along with a water pump. If it is a automatic add a external trans cool to prevent a possibility of SMOD. 2006 - 2010 had the issue where the trans cooler would start leaking in the radiator.
Hundreds of trolls out there in video land had their belief that Randy never does anything to the cars and trucks he buys, severely shaken again. What's more real than changing an alternator in a Nissan Xterra? More proof that decent cars are out there if you check them out before you buy and are willing and able to do the work. As always, a great video and I hope this SUV surprises everyone with the selling price.
Wow, that mower brings back memories. My grandfather had the identical one for decades up until he passed away at the age of 99. My old man sold it and everything else at an estate sale pretty much.
Great job ! The 0.1% unsure about the ALT being at fault would be eliminated if a voltage reading were taken directly at the ALT output before disconnecting thereby eliminating a faulty connection..
I bet the VDC light turned off after driving it a bit. As far as oil leaking by the oil filter, there is a seal behind the oil cooler that will leak after several years. Common problem. $10 seal and about 20-30 minutes to change it while you do the next oil change. No big deal. I think you need a 24mm socket for the stud to remove the oil cooler, though I could be wrong. It's been years since I replaced mine.
OFF mosquito spray would've cleared those headlights up just as good as Walmart did, guaranteed. My 20 y/o, 281k mile Lincoln LS V8 headlights is as clear as can be from using OFF. And is how I keep the headlights crystal clear on my 2014 Lexus GS350 F Sport. 👌🏾
This makes me miss my 2010 Nissan Xterra. When I got it, the dealer had not repaired the seal behind the oil filter/cooler mount, so that was the first thing I did. A $3 part fixed that oil leak - and would have made it look so much better underneath. We never had issues with the X, and it saved my daughter's life in a head-on collision. Not the best on MPG, that engine was great and the vehicle was a great-looking SUV. I really do miss it. Oh, and I didn't realize any of them came with manual windows. Sure wish I could get yours and enjoy an X again.
The VDC will go off after you drive it some we have a 2008 Nissan Xterra off-road edition we replace the battery in our VDC light was on after you drive it for about or 10 miles it goes out. I will say they’re wonderful suvs we bought ours brand new in 2007
Hope these help! That VDC button is probably bad. You can try holding it down for 10 secs. It controls the Vehicle Dynamic Control system. Its basically Nissan's traction control system. Could need a VDC reprogramming. Some had a recall on it. Also I've found some cheap headlights before an rockauto and Amazon for different vehicles. Not always but most the time if they don't clean up or stay clean. Costco also has Interstate Batteries most all batteries for $79.99.
@@WthaHatchet Well they only replaced his battery there. It needs a few drives before it turns itself off. At least that is how it behaves on my Nissan Pathfinder from the same year. Ofc something could be broken (like an ABS sensor) but I guess we will see how it goes after he has driven it a few more times.
@@fintrollpgr I mean I hope it does. Makes it more pleasant for the new owner but really do you need tcs/vdc nope. We shall see. Only time and mileage will tell.
I'm 10 years older than you. The people that did the Chevy citation commercials back in the eighties did a great job because the first thing I think of when I think of a citation is the old Chevy citation commercial where they sang Chevy citaaaaaaation.. look up Chevy citation commercial on RUclips of course
4:27 I have the same wrench, I would love to buy the car but I live 30 miles East of Reno Nevada, Fernley, Nevada, transporting would be very expensive
Those old xterra’s go really goo off-road. I rented a 4x4 one and drove it all over the Mojave desert. Never got stuck and the ride was great on and off road.
I saw free and i clicked the video so fast!! Free cursing woohoo!!! 😎 and vdc is nissans traction control, but thats another car ultimately saved from the crusher randy, it will make someones life so much better not someone who cares about all the bells and whistles but someone looking for a to b transportation with a little maintenance needed
I love the Xterra, I always have liked them, I'm surprised the videos haven't done well. I'm glad you put the work into it and I hope it goes to a good owner that truly needs a cheap and reliable (hopefully) car
Those 4.0 alternators are stupid crazy to replace. I replaced 2 of them on a Nissan NV 2500 and you can only imagine my pain. Stout motors for what they are though.
I got a 2005 suzuki aerio that needed a new alternator, got a brand new one for 30$(had been sitting in a buddy's garage for 4 years, but I tested it and it worked) and I let my brother change the alternator simply because I didn't want to and he needed the car so I let him borrow it in exchange of fixing it. Took him *6 hours* to change it, the alternator is under the engine instead of over it, the next day he took 20 minutes to change the alternator on his civic, quite a big time difference, he definitely cursed a lot during the suzuki's repairs
Ooh, looking forward to the Chrysler. I've always had a soft spot for them, admittedly mainly because of the looks. I wish car design had gone more in that direction - purposeful, understated, aggressive - than the current 'Chinese baby's sneaker' look. Proper sedans sre becoming a rarity too, in the age of the SUV. Nice work on the X-Terra - even if you lose a couple hundred, you've saved a good vehicle from the crusher, which is a win in my book.
Sometimes I have to wonder why you don't source some parts from a pick apart yard near by, either way it's your choice, are you ever planning on pursuing a Retail dealers license, it would widen your sales base Like these vids, Happy Labor Day Weekend
No smod issues? Dang. That's nice to hear on a second gen. Glad I got a first gen 😅 I also have lost quite a few sockets down there by the front sway/skid plate... Tough spot to get to without a nice big jack.
I actually just bought a 900 dollar xterra with little over 200k as well. Needs new cats I would much rather change alternator than do cats haha. Vdc light always comes on when battery dies once u drive it light turns off.
I loved your Channel but there it is your BRAND NEW CARS OR OR TRUCKS. I only watch your Copart walk around apparently they're 3 weeks to 4 weeks late thank you Randy for your late videos

This is what I've missed, tinkering around on old shitboxes. Good to see this make a return mate 👍
Glad you enjoyed it

Nice channel. Love the different kinds of content. Keep it real Randy.
I love seeing the real uncensored content
Ouch, that must have hurt when Randy screamed fuck. I could sense the pain in his voice. 😳
It came out with some force and landed on my finger and then my finger landed on the sub frame lol.
Owwwwww that got to hurt sun of a biscuit eater
Hey Randy, just watched your video on the Nissan. Really enjoyed it and changing the alternator looked awkward. You accomplished a lot and those headlights look great !! Best video for a while. Keep up the good work 👍👍👍😎😎😎
That VDC light will go out when you get all of the battery issues straightened out. My 2005 Pathfinder does that.

Excited for the old craftsman and the Honda! Keep up the good work randy!!
I love Xterra I had one few years back that I had to sale to pay my mortgage (eff the pandemic). I’m fully invested in this build.
I’m here watched both videos and enjoyed!!!
You’re a big inspiration to me. I watch you almost everyday. I am going to get me a fixer upper soon and start posting the process on here. Keep up the good work ❗️
That's it Rhandy do the wrenching by yourself like you use to do when the channel was still named Uberman!!!!
Randy, I got my Sienna in April. It would violently shake and wouldn't do 55. Tires were just that shot!!! Amazing what tires can do!

This is the content that I just love about the channel. And he walk arounds. Thanks Randy. Give that HD a pat on the saddle.
Hello Randy. The 2006 Nissan Extera is a good SUV. I can't wait to see the other car videos.
Hey buddy good to see you again hope you an family are doing great how is your uncle
Finally, some car content with price points I can relate to!
Well done Randy,....we want to see you fix some of these old cars & get them going again,....good content.

Extension and wobbly socket will be your best friend when working on these Xterras. The bolt and nut placement is a geometric nightmare
I enjoyed the video. Thank you for taking the time to film these videos.
The Xterra will be a good car for someone. Thanks for getting these cars back on the road
I’m glad you saved this Xterra and the 80s cars

Since it had a bad battery and alternator it might go away in a bit. It might just need to recalibrate itself.

When Randy swears the views go up by 50% lol another great video like always.
I felt the pain just before the alternator released. Cramped quarters, pulling hard...
Ole Randy doing some wrenching lately!! This is quickly becoming my favorite channel !
Very jazzed about these projects - especially the mower! Dude! I love this channel!
Can you PLEASE do a video showing how you remove the dash and access ALL of the blend door / mode door actuators ?

Good trip tires 🤣🤣🤣 better than what was on it though that’s for sure. You brought it back from the dead and I love that. Really nice base Xterra.
You stole that tractor too!
You have demonstrated that you can make a car better by correcting the functional problems to produce a good daily driver.
Finaly back to the roots of this channel
Great video Randy, love the fact your getting these cars back on the road, keep up the great work 👍
Randy is a household name at my house 👍Great guy and great content.
Gotta love them cheap car contents 👍🏻
Keep making videos and I’ll keep viewing and liking them.
Good job with the Nissan. Thank you for your videos. I enjoy all of them.
Looks like good times doing an alternator on the Xterra. Can't wait to see the lawnmower video!!
This is why I keep my notifications on 👍
I appreciate that!
It's the same with the 5.6v8 in my lil bros 05 Infiniti QX56 when we changed the alternator
I love the Xterra, I always have liked them, I'm surprised the videos haven't done well. I'm glad you put the work into it and I hope it goes to a good owner that truly needs a cheap and reliable (hopefully) car
Thanks for the video, Randy.
Like me Randy, you work on anything. Did I spy a 190E in there towards the end? I didn't hear mention of that one yet. Keep it up, I'll keep watching.

Hey just a suggestion.
You should buy a headwear GoPro camera it'll be much faster and easier for you to work on cars AND film at the same time.
Awesome video Randy 🤘🏽🔥
"AH, FUCK! SHIT!......you son of a biscuit eater" :P
VDC is traction control. It need a wheel speed sensor or wheel bearing.
Check the grounding, Randy... My Landover had the same lights/ticking coz the ground wasn't connected properly

You can win on this, these are popular between 4x4 junkies, they are very capable 4x4s.
Good job on fixing the nissan, i bet having a lift helped immensely.
