13:25 The reason she can confess after this is because she saw the flaw in her plan. She started this intending to hurt Rupert worse than she'd ever been hurt *by* him. When he drops this little bomb, she realizes it's impossible. She can never be on his level of evilness, and doesn't want to be.
Favorite uploads from all my subs these days are you and Ted Lasso. I love this show, and seeing others watch it the first time brings me so many smiles. Congrats on your success
It’s a great moment. A lot of us did the same. It’s also great writing. Soooo many tv shows would have used that as the plot point for season two - drag it out. This show. Nope. Adulting
I've described this show as being "therapeutic", as it still has all the obstacles you expect in a drama/comedy, but they take so many of the social norms/tropes we inhabit and turn them upside down. Like this moment - yeah, that did not go the way I expected. The way the characters approach everything from forgiveness to immigration, from divorce to grief. That moment between Ted & Rebecca is when I ended up binging the show, having realized it was something different.
Hannah Waddingham absolutely deserved the Emmy she won. This episode, she delivers not only INCREDIBLE pathos and depth of emotion, but also some of the funniest moments Rebecca's had yet. When Ted asks if she's okay and she says "Me? I'm brilliant! Top of the Pops! Binka-dink-dink-dinkity-dink" with a little impromptu hand dance, it made me laugh so hard I had to pause because i was missing everything they said after that.
thank you Nikki!! i’ve watched a few people/groups react to this episode and you’re one of the only people i’ve seen really REACT to the devastating realization that Rupert denied Rebecca the chance of having children, i just haven’t seen other people really grasp how absolutely earth shattering it is. Nikki, your “that’s not FAIR” reaction really encapsulates how i feel about this scene every time i see it, thank you guys for watching this amazing series!
I eagerly wait for this episode every time someone starts reacting to Ted Lasso. Just that closeup on Rebecca’s face after Rupert hurts her, yet again - it breaks my heart every time. It doesn’t excuse her behavior, but we as the audience understand her pain all the more & why she was so hell bent on her plan. But the difference between her & Rupert is that she ultimately is a good person, and realizes that she can’t keep hurting people like Rupert has done to her. Such an amazing performance.
One of my fave bits of Lasso trivia is that when Anthony Head (Rupert) and Hannah were shooting that scene, they finished with his coverage and he was released for the day but he stuck around while they reset for Hannah’s closeup so he could deliver those lines to her off-camera and get her “back in the moment”. Many actors would not have done that, but by all accounts he is a top bloke IRL even tho he’s playing SUCH an evil cad here.
Roy having the same reaction as Keely at the start of the season. "I never know how to react when a grown man _____ in front of me." Also remember how during the fundraiser episode Rebecca jokes that she's not a hugger, and here she pulls Ted in for the hug.
The confession scene is a wonderful example of the subtlety of great acting. It's being driven by this powerful confession by a tearing Rebecca delivered by the formidable Hannah Waddingham. But that performance is anchored by Jason Sudeikis. It would have been... almost cheap of the effervescent Ted just blindly accepted the apology in a display of saccharine positivity. But by this point in the show, we know that's not Ted. Ted's face changes. You see hurt. Betrayal. Anger. And then the understanding that makes Ted genuine, not saccharine. That wash of emotion is what gives that moment of understanding, redemption, and forgiveness real gravitas.
Both of Rebecca’s apologies are so well-done. We have all of the sorrow and regret with Ted, then we finally get to see the long friendship between her and Higgins when she said “I'm sorry” to him.
Fair but she never told the team or Jamie what she did. She tried to destroy their careers as well and it was cowardly not to tell them. Ted doesn't get to forgive her on thier behalf that was their decision to make.
Trent Crimm appears in the background as a reporter for the Daily Planet in the show My Adventures with Superman so I appreciate Teds joke a lot more now.
I love Ted's forgiving Rebecca right away because you can see in the scene that he paused to think it over before doing it. I'm glad they didn't make it so the "nice" character just shallowly forgave without any real consideration because so often in media "nice" goes hand-in-hand with "dumb" but Ted (and Keeley too) are both examples of really nice, sweet people who are also intelligent and good at what they do.
It's amazing to me that Rebecca actually cares what Keeley thinks of her. It really speaks to their friendship and their total lack of caring about social/class distinctions.
I love how this show subverts our expectations of a big blow up from the confession scene. He really is just a kind person who is also flawed and sees what his actions do can influence all around him.
One of the many callbacks that this show does, is when Roy saves Ted from getting hit by a car because he looked left instead of right. Same thing happened in the 2nd episode, when Beard saved Ted.
WOOF WOOF! Episodes 8 and 9 are 2 of my favorite episodes in the whole series. No teasing us or repeated close encounters to build suspense, just straight up Ted hustling Rupert to defend Rebcca and then a direct apology for what Rebecca had done this whole season. Talking like adults with no tip toeing or half truths. I love this show so much!
Someone else mentioned it I believe, but I'm on the same boat. Seeing Ted just instantly forgiving Rebecca and pointing out why he understands what she did changed me as a person. Im a pretty analytical person, but him skipping the bullshit to reach understanding was eye opening, its changed how I react to and feel about a lot of shit since
“Brunette Oscar the Grouch” is one of my favorite descriptions of Roy, since Brett Goldstein is totally obsessed with the Muppets in real life. He calls being on Sesame Street one of the best days of his life. If you can track down the episode on Max, it’s season 53, ep 11. It has no spoilers for season 2 and a number of very cute references. Also, I read in another page that Dani is singing the title song in Spanish. My Spanish wasn’t good enough to pick up on that. If you look at Hannah’s humor in her interviews, Rebecca’s procrastinating is basically Hannah being straight up her silly self. Hannah has also talked about drawing from her own infertility struggles and wanting to put that into Rebecca. They accepted her input for the character. It’s so gross that Rupert is basically having a kid to spite her. Poor kid. Jeremy Swift also plays the bass in real life.
When it comes to a person being angry when we confess a wrongdoing: culturally we often assume that anger over a wrong is an indication of how much a person cares about what was wounded (be it a person, relationship, etc). So if they are not angry, it can feel like they are failing to appreciate what we are apologizing for and the effort/care we're attempting to communicate by apologizing. It's certainly possible for this to happen, sometimes people just aren't that bothered. But it's important to remember that anger isn't the only form of expressing care or value. Ted is a fabulous example of a person whose appreciation for you and what led you to err is his genuine response. It's not that he doesn't appreciate the extent of the wrong or her apology, it's that he actually really does appreciate those things AND what led her there in the first place. It's beautiful. Sometimes we can want a person to get angry or be mad at us in some way after apologizing. But if that's not how they naturally feel and their forgiveness is genuine, then our desire for that anger is more about ourselves than them or making things right. It's because we struggle to forgive ourselves or understand how things can be okay without a reaction of anger. We need it to help forgive ourselves. If that's the case, then we should work to better trust that anger isn't necessary for forgiveness -- not demand they be angry/put on feelings they don't genuinely feel. Either way, if a person isn't angry and can genuinely forgive us it's especially necessary that you offer that sincerely. If you do it just 'to be the bigger person' or because you feel like it's what you should do, that's not fair to the person apologizing. It'll make it hard for them to trust you in the future when you say how you feel about things. TL;DR reactions like Ted's are totally possible, a beautiful thing to aspire to, and yet it's okay if we aren't there yet. =)
I hope no one spoils the "British owl" joke for you - this show knows what it's doing. I love that Rebecca went to confess to Ted after Rupert came and emotionally destroyed her yet again - she realized that what she was doing wouldn't change anything when it came to him. She saw how evil causing emotional pain on purpose looked (finally) and what kind of person it was making her be, and that it was fruitless. As corny as it is, in order to heal you have to let some things go.
Whenever the show builds connection between Rebecca and the audience, the show then shows her getting hit by something negative from her fallout from the divorce. Whether it's Rupert being a rick, or the press deciding to whack her. The trauma keeps getting revisited upon her when shes just beginning yo dig herself out of it. Thats why it's such a triumph for her to go confess and ask for Ted's forgiveness, right on the heels of Rupert being the ultimate ass to her and hurting her ao deeply.
I love you guys. :) If you rewatch the previous episodes, you'll notice that every single time Rebecca does something sh*tty, it's immediately after Rupert (or the Press on Rupert's behalf) does something incredibly hurtful to her. And this is crucial, because her plan -- "I will ruin the team to hurt Rupert" -- actually makes no sense. Rupert is cold and entirely selfish, and he doesn't (I think) really love anything, including the team; ruining the team *won't* hurt him. But Rebecca has no way of hitting Rupert back, so she lashes out at what she *can* hurt -- Higgins, Ted, Jamie, the team. The big change comes in this episode. In this episode, her response to Rupert's doing the most awful thing yet ("I ruined your life for nothing, and I'm enjoying telling you about it") is *not* to lash out again; it's to come clean. Because an entire season of daily Ted Lasso has rubbed off on her, and some part of her now understands that she can actually get respect and affection and support, and that she deserves it -- but only if she lives with integrity.
There’s a video of all of his Sesame Street clips in the episode he was on. Apparently, Brett is a huge Muppets fan, so being on the show was a highlight of his life!
Yes! Anthony S Head's are different colours, Or rather his right one has a slice of golden brown in it. This is his 4th Rupert he's played, One was in the 70s, then there was Rupert Giles in Buffy TVS, then he's in Jack Ryan and this as a Rupert. 🙂
Commenting this before I watch your reaction: kind of going off of what you said in regards to Rebecca how it's like she takes one step forward and then two steps back, when I first watched this season, there were times where I forgot she was still trying to sabotage Ted and the team. Ted or Keeley or whomever, would be there for Rebecca in a way she wasn't used to, and then something would happen and, BAM she would go back to her scheming. It makes this show very interesting! Editing now to add: I think Rebecca probably expected Ted to be mad and not forgive her because it's likely that's how it was with Rupert. If she ever did anything to upset him, I'm sure he would get mad and expect and apology from her, but that was it. I'd really expect her to think that especially as towards the end, she really had no friends. Sassy wasn't in her life, as far as we know, she didn't have other friends, and her relationship with her parents...I don't want to give anything away, but we learn about that in season 2. Anyway, love your reactions and analyses as always! Ps. A League of Their Own!
Phoebe is a precious cinnamon roll and I pity her first significant other, because Roy will create a new hell and send them to it if they hurt Phoebe in any way.
"A League of Their Own." Steven, what you said about being a fish, forgetting by the time you move to the other side of the bowl, just reminds me of Dori. lol I'm an INFJ, to the bone. 🥰 I couldn't wait for you guys to get to this episode. One of my favorites. I wanted to love Rebecca, and this one here allowed me to - no holds bar. Keeley is definitely the MVP in this one, because I'm not sure Rebecca would have revealed to Ted what she was up to so soon; but Rupert's shit pushed her over the edge.
I love you guys so much and I’ve been waiting for your ted lasso episodes. I am in love with the show and I love seeing how y’all react. Can’t wait for you to watch the season finale. Love you guys!
I got it before you said No Crying in Baseball, I just had to pause and hear Tom Hanks in my head, going after Stillwell Angel. A League of their Own, of course 😍 Apologies for something you didn’t do is sooo British. You fit right in. 👍🏻
This show sneaks up on you with the human nature stuff. It's what got this so a number of Emmys. Roy Kent is my spirit animal. A solid breakthrough episode with Rebecca coming clean and Roy facing some hard truths, but has Keeley there to help him through it. One more episode in the season!!!!
For those of us who are long-time 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' fans, the appearance of Anthony Stewart Head (Rupert) is always great. We know how subtke and versatile his acting range is. However, the characters he played there and here are worlds apart - Rupert Giles (a coincidence) was a true father figure, stern when necessary, loving, empathetic, smart and funny too. Hurting people like THIS Rupert does would be unthinkable for him - it's like watching the Bizarro World version of Giles.
Jamie was loaned, not rented. When a team recalls their loan... that's it, at least until the next trade window (December and June-August) and this is the last game of the season... makes no sense to reloan him out before that.
I hope you guys check out Shrinking after this! Same creators as Ted, has the same magic of character progression, and has Jason Segel, Christa Miller and Harrison Ford!
U were quoting A League of their own, which is one of my favorite baseball movies and I hope u are ready for the season 1 finale and then ready for the next season afterwards
I'm an INFJ! We are very similar. Great review - I knew you guy would LOVE this show. We keep hearing rumors of a season 4 - so keep your fingers crossed!
15:05 if only it was that simple. Jamie on contract is a City player and most likely Richmond got him on loan in August begining of the season. You can only buy or loan players in The begging or mid season in the January transfer window peorid. This being last game is most likely in april or june. City always have a option to recall a player if they deem thier loan isnt beneficial or they want the player back. So sadly there is no way for Richmond to get jamie back intime for the final match
Fantastic episode. I expected her apology but never expected her to tell him everything. You can see on his face, he doesn’t think about forgiving her until she says ‘All you good people, just trying to make a difference’ Love keeley keeping onto her to tell Ted.
Funny, I was trying to think of “we’re gonna win” movie….and at that moment notification popped up of another reactor reacting to A League of their own 🤯
I only caught this maybe the 2nd or third time I watched this show, but when Ted signs his divorce papers, he does so with his left hand. Not a huge thing, but when I watched that episode on repeat I remember thinking: "Oh yeah, he's left handed" And when Danny Rojas comes in when Roy is in the ice he starts singing the "Ted Lasso" Theme in Spanish. It cuts out just before the "Yaaaaaa!"
Steven and I sound like exactly the same person. Curious to see him take the test from the Strenghsfinder 2.0 test by Tim Roth and what his top 5 will be. Wonder if he gets Harmony and Restorative as some of his top 5 strengths

The fact that it never occurred to me that Ted would just forgive Rebecca made me look and change myself as a person.

Just imagine how Anthony and Hannah would sound behind the scenes if they started singing together.
@tosweet68 I was surprised how good his voice is. Amber Benson (Tara) also has an amazing voice, and James Marsters (Spike) is an excellent guitarist.
I acknowledge your blink twice when he said earlier. "Not in front of the kids"
Oh and A League of their own
I have been waiting for the amazing couple's reaction on this amazing show ❤️
Love these, reaction videos aren’t usually my thing but yous watching this is so entertaining will need to check out more of your reactions 💚
Regarding the "we're gonna win" line, I thought of A Few Good Men, because I think there's a moment when Demi Moore says that to Tom Cruise.
Gotta love Anthony Head, nicest guy, but plays the jerk so well.
Jamie was loaned, not rented. When a team recalls their loan... that's it, at least until the next trade window (December and June-August) and this is the last game of the season... makes no sense to reloan him out before that.
You guys are my favourite reaction channel
I hope you guys check out Shrinking after this! Same creators as Ted, has the same magic of character progression, and has Jason Segel, Christa Miller and Harrison Ford!
You could NEVER sneak in a line from "A League Of Their Own" without me picking up on it, sir! Lol... Great episode, great reaction, as usual.
A League of Their Own! Knew that right away! 😊
Rebecca's not a hugger😢❤
Future Congratulations on 400k subs!!!
U were quoting A League of their own, which is one of my favorite baseball movies and I hope u are ready for the season 1 finale and then ready for the next season afterwards
I'm sure the British owl joke would end with some kind of Dr. Who punchline.
Gotta watch Roy (Brett) on Sesame Street. And then when you are done with this show please watch Shrinking.
Stillwell getting hit in the face with the mitt. Lol.
“A League Of Their Own” ❤️❤️❤️
well well well back again 🔥🔥
17:25 "Gruesome facial hair." Nailed it.
“We’re gonna win!” Is from a League Of Their Own. Tom Hanks character Jimmy Dugan says it after Gena Davis’s character Dottie shows back up.
I'm an INFJ! We are very similar.
Great review - I knew you guy would LOVE this show. We keep hearing rumors of a season 4 - so keep your fingers crossed!
A league of their own!! WE’RE GONNA WIN!!!

Anthony Stewart Head (the actor playing Rupert) does, in fact, have heterochromia (a fancy word for "eyes that are different colors.
Diamond Dogs mount up! Ruff ruff ruff
Funny, I was trying to think of “we’re gonna win” movie….and at that moment notification popped up of another reactor reacting to A League of their own 🤯
I visited Australia. That 'walking into the street looking the wrong way' things is oh so Real.
Please react to "Jason Sudeikis & Hannah Waddingham Shallow cover" & "Brendan Hunt & Hannah Waddingham Love shack cover"
A league of their own!!!
"We're gonna win!" -Jimmy Dugan A League of Their Own
A good quote but not as great as the signed ball with "Avoid the Clap."
But the throwing of the mitt at Stillwell Angel was iconic.
That’s good advice
The only criticism I have guys is you are only do one episode a week 😂
well that's changing this week 😁😁
Letting it play out as credits roll for some reason just got to me
Pisces unite! It’s either love or hate/don’t care/think about…ain’t got time for it😂
A League of their Own!
Slapping the Bass. Lol 😂
That might’ve been a Sooners reference, but I took it as Notre Dame Football reference… Play Like a Champion Today!
“We’re gonna win!” Isn’t that line from Titanic?
The we're gonna win quote is from a league of their own. I believe 😅
You guys are awesome
I only caught this maybe the 2nd or third time I watched this show, but when Ted signs his divorce papers, he does so with his left hand. Not a huge thing, but when I watched that episode on repeat I remember thinking: "Oh yeah, he's left handed"
And when Danny Rojas comes in when Roy is in the ice he starts singing the "Ted Lasso" Theme in Spanish.
Let’s go ISTJ! And you are exactly right Nikki.
I’m an INFP and also a Pisces. We’re the emotional weirdos of the Zodiac. I hold grudges way too long. I would rather not, but I do. I’m trying to change that. I also once tested in the 98th percentile for my age in memory. And from everything I’ve read, we’re known for our emotions. It’s 2 fish swimming in opposite directions. I’m loyal as hell too.
A league of their own ❤
Random, but please consider Bend It Like Beckham ❤. I have a feeling you'll both love itA
I love your hair Nikki. You are so beautiful 😍
