    Beatiful video. Almost a year ago I purchased the Velotric T1st. It's been great for around town. Grocery store, bike trails. 33lbs about 30 Miles range slamming its power bank, but also rides like my acoustic bike with the motor switched off. The battery and cables are well hidden, so it doesn't scream E-Bike! Power or not, it's about getting out there. I'm feeling the mileage at over 60, so the ebike has saved me a few times I pushed my limits.

      It is indeed all about getting out there. I couldn't agree more. The tools don't matter as long as you have the adventure :)

    A week or so in with my Touroll U!. I agree with all you say. For me it is perfect for a 7 mile ride to work and back on cycle paths, The battery is very good in that over 7 miles it doesn't drop below 4 lights meaning I don't use more than 20% of the battery. A ride home including a big steep hill takes 30 mins taking it steady in pitch darkness and a dusting of snow. It is slightly compact for a tall fat lad like me but adopting a more upright style works well. A thing that is important to get used to is the assist can be almost too 'assisty' in something like a busy supermarket car park, Turn it off if you need to creep slowly because the bike wants you to get up to 15 mph straight away. The lower 2 settings are not really noticeable from the way I ride it. I love the bike for its low cost, obvious assist when going uphill or pulling away from traffic lights and total lack of concern with the range. It is a tad heavy compared to Aluminium frames etc but if the battery drained you still have 21 gears to see you home without dying on your arse. I used to cycle a bit 20 years ago, now I am 50 so to get to and from work and mooch around it is, so far a pleasure, maybe a revelation 😊😊

      That's all good to hear and makes me feel more confident in my own opinion because it sounds like you have pretty much the same conclusions.
      I remember looking at ebikes when they first started to become a thing and they all cost thousands so the very idea that something like this can exist is pretty amazing I think.
      Happy riding :)

    Hey, glad to see you're alive and well and on the bike again! Those landscapes are such a source of fresh air, feeling it all the way to my desk!
    The bike looks and sounds decent too. What it lacks for my imaginary needs is though that there's nothing to help bring groceries home. Living on top of a steep hill doesn't encourage a couch potato like me to use a standard bike for shopping trips but an ebike might, if it had some place for a bag.

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  22 дня назад +1

      Yeah, the addition of a rack or some other way to mount bags would be a real benefit in my opinion. Dunno what the cost would be to add such a thing but I'd say it would be worth it for exactly the reasons you give - it makes a bike more of an everyday ride.

    Good to see you today. Southern Sweden looks a wonderful place to poke around and explore. Perhaps one day I'll get there with my bike.
    You sometimes make self-effacing comments about your philosophical ramblings, but quite frankly, I enjoy your ramblings as much, or perhaps more so, than the more normal "bike" content. You just do you, and we'll soak up the philosophy.

    Kudos for you sir. I have to admit when I saw your video's thumbnail /title I thought "oh no! Not another nice RUclips channel turning into another sponsored review boring thing. Glad you don't and go your own nice way. Although I'm looking forward to your thoughts of the Surly ogre, I'm a fan of these type of real bikes 😉 I have Salsa Fargo's, a Surly Ghost Grappler etc... Oh and by the way, Cannondale is not what it used to be, I know because I have a few since the 90's until recent ones... Anyway, looking forward to your next adventures and videos. Especially with the decadently talkative Alan 👍

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  22 дня назад +1

      I'll try to retain ownership of my soul for a little while at least ;)
      I like gear and I don't mind doing reviews if I'm allowed to be honest but I don't want this to be a gear channel, not primarily at least.
      The Ogre is an absolute beast and I love it. So comfy, so reliable, I can't fault it. I've done a couple of videos about it in the past and it hasn't really changed since the last one so I doubt there will be another any time soon.
      Before the Ogre I rode for many years on a Cannondale F1. I got it in 2008ish and kept it till 2019. It took me thousands of miles and was the bike that got me into bikepacking. I dunno if it was 'good' in the broad sense but it did me very well.
      I also look forward to the next ride with Alan. We've not crossed paths for a while, we need to try to arrange something for sure!

    Northern England is bad enough with this weather. Yes, your battery range is much lower in the cold. The battery looks like the Yose Power Hailong battery I have, which has been good to date, but will be about 65-75% of the range in the summer I estimate.

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  22 дня назад +1

      That's what I figured. Fortunately my desire to be outside is also reduced by about the same percent in cold weather so it all balances out nicely ;)

    I have a bike a bit like that, it's a E-Subway from Carrera. What I've found is, it actually makes a great winter bike, because I can go a bit further in a limited amount of time and it's easier to maintain body temperature (don't get as sweaty, don't have to breathe as much ice cold air). One thing to watch out for is rear wheel punctures because getting the wheel in and out probably requires undoing a power cable that may be held to the frame with zipties and stuff. Then if you want to flip the bike upside down you probably have to loosen or remove the bar controller so it doesn't get crushed. I ended up putting a marathon e spec rear tire on mine and one of those tubes with sealant in it. Doesn't give the liveliest ride but I haven't had a puncture yet, touch wood. The hillstart power is brilliant here in wales where I might have to stop on a 10% to let a tractor go by. I guess another thing to do is keep the battery indoors so it's not regularly subject to freezing temps. I get about 50km 500m from mine with a 420wh battery and I'm 100kg. When you pedal with the power off does it feel like riding through sand or does the motor just totally go away? Mine is quite draggy with the motor off.

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  19 дней назад

      This one is pretty good when you ride without the motor, not draggy at all.
      I think the rear wheel removal is a valid point, I've used slime tubes before and really rate them. This one has a connector that looks like a pretty simple screw in job but I'll admit I've not actually tried getting it off yet.

    Nice to hear from youJethro! How's Allan? ;-) Love to see you're local northern lights and/or a poetical winter camp. ( *Riese & Muller makes the best touring bikepacking e-bikes in my opinion, but there very costly)... All the best!

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  22 дня назад +2

      Top end bikes are pricey, electric or otherwise.
      I'm still happy to do my rides on leg power alone but as the old bones get older I might be tempted to splurge on something. I do enjoy the feeling of an e-assist on a nasty climb.
      The shelter in this one is probably close enough to home that I could risk a winter camp and make it back alive if things got too chilly.
      I've got fairly decent gear but it can get shockingly cold here, even this far south.

    Seems like the sort of bike for getting round town and for well prepared gravel routes. Which I think is what it is designed for and reflected in the price, which sounds very reasonable.

    I’m at the age where a lot of my contemporaries are going into e-bikes with full commitment. But I’ve worked in a bicycle shop and have seen some issues with them, and a few odd attitudes that people develop when they get one. I really don’t want a bike that has to be plugged into a laptop to update it, how have issues that I can’t fix . So for as long as I can I’ll stick with an analog bicycle, I like cables and simple things.
    But I’ll confess that both bikes that I have bought recently (Surly’s) do have the ability to work with a bolt on mid-drive kit, I’ve tried customer bikes with these kit sets, even installed a couple of them and they do work ok. And if I then decide it’s not really for me, I can at least put my bike back to standard.
    Nice shelter, amazing stories scribbled on the walls. 😃

      I agree with your point about updates . Once everybody is on electronic shifting , I think Shimano and others will effectively own your bike unless you pay them for regular firmware updates .

      I think it's one thing having a bike with a motor. That solves a problem of sorts.
      Electric shifters, tyre valves etc just feel like tech for the sake of tech and a reason to keep people buying new gear
