Powerful father-and-son duet
A surprise awaited the guests of the exclusive Yeshivas Mir
Dinner at Avenue Congress hall in Airport city this June. In the
middle of the superb musical production conducted by the
famed and talented singer Yisrael Adler, accompanied by Yoeli
Dickman's orchestra and Pinchas Bichler's Malchus choir,
Yisrael Adler invited his father, the illustrious Chazan Chaim
Adler, to join him on stage for a father-and-son duet.
Following son Yisrael's grand invitation and a deafening
applause, Chazan Chaim Adler ascended the stage, and
shoulder-to-shoulder, father and son performed an exceptional
rendition of a stirring song set to the words of Rabi Nechunia
ben Kana: Shesamta chelkeinu miyoshvei beis hamidrash v'lo
samta chelkeinu miyoshvei kranos… anu ratzim v'heim
ratzim-
[Thank you] for making our share among those who sit
in the beis midrash, and that you did not make our share
among those who sit in idleness…we run and they run." This
speaks of the contrast and the privilege of the Jew on his way
to beis midrash to learn a mishnah, daven, and answer to
Kedushah and Barchu.
Father and son then segued into Chazan Mordechai Hirshman's
composition on the words 'Eilu Devarim she'ein lahem
shiur…v'talmud Torah k'neged kulam,
blending into the theme of the value of a Yid and honor for the Torah scholars of the
yeshivah.

גײט דער יוד אין בית המדרש ארײַן כאפט ער דארט אַ מנחה'לה ארײַן אַ קדושה'לה אריין, אַ פרק משניות ארײן:
"אֵלּוּ דְבָרִים שֶׁאֵין לָהֶם שִׁעוּר,הַפֵּאָה, וְהַבִּכּוּרִים, וְהָרְאָיוֹן וגְמִילוּת חֲסָדִים וְתַלְמוּד תּוֹרָה. אֵלּוּ דְבָרִים שֶׁאָדָם אוֹכֵל פֵּרוֹתֵיהֶם בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה, וְהַקֶּרֶן קַיֶּמֶת לוֹ לָעוֹלָם הַבָּא; וְאֵלּוּ הֵן: כִּבּוּד אָב וָאֵם, וּגְמִילוּת חֲסָדִים, ְוהַשְׁכָּמַת בֵּית הַמִּדְרָשׁ שַׁחֲרִית וְעַרְבִית, וְהַכְנָסַת אוֹרְחִים, וּבִקּוּר חוֹלִים, וְהַכְנָסַת כַּלָּה, וְעִיּוּן תְּפִלָּה והֲבָאַת שָׁלוֹם בֵּין אָדָם לַחֲבֵרוֹ, וְתַלְמוּד תּוֹרָה כְּנֶגֶד כֻּלָּם".

דואט עוצמתי וסוחף של אב ובן
לאורחי הוועידה היוקרתית של ישיבת מיר שהתכנסו באולמי אווניו שבקרית שדה התעופה בחודש סיון השתא, ציפתה הפתעה נדירה ומיוחדת, כאשר במרכזה של התכנית האמנותית - אותה הוביל, כתב וביצע בחן וכישרון רב, הגראמער ובעל המנגן ישראל אדלר, כשהוא מלווה בתזמורתו של יואלי דיקמן ומקהלת מלכות בניצוחו של פנחס ביכלר -, קרא והזמין ישראל אדלר את אביו החזן הראשי - חיים אדלר, לעלות לבמה ולבצע דואט מיוחד בצוותא.
לאחר קריאתו המרשימה של הבן לאביו הגדול, ולקול תרועת ההמונים עלה החזן הראשי חיים אדלר ונעמד ליד בנו ישראל, ויחדיו ביצעו יצירה אידישאית נפלאה, עתיקה וקסומה המבוססת במקורה על דברי רבי נחוניא בן הקנה :"ששמת חלקנו מיושבי בית המדרש ולא שמת חלקנו מיושבי קרנות... אנו רצים והם רצים", על ההבדל ומעלתו של היהודי הצועד לבית המדרש לחטוף פרק משניות, תפילה, קדושה וברכו.
בהקשר זה, הוסיף החזן הראשי וחיבר ליצירה זו אף "פרק משניות", והשנים שוררו את יצירתו של החזן מרדכי הירשמן - "אלו דברים שאין להם שיעור.. ותלמוד תורה כנגד כולם", יצירה שתאמה את המסר על ערכיותו של היהודי ותאמה למעמד לכבודם של תלמידי ואברכי ישיבת מיר.

B'li ayin ha'rah, Chazzan Adler can still outsing the vast majority of today's chazzanim even at the ripe young age of 80. The manner in which he has preserved the beauty of his voice at this age is remarkable. May he continue singing well for many years. And his son is not a bad chazzan in his own right. He inherited the sweetness of his father's voice, as well as some of his great taste in singing.

Mir is my last name. What is the meaning ?
Mir is a city in Portland where a Jewish yeshiva was located. So the Yeshiva today is named after it. Many Jewish sects and yeshivas (academic establishments) are named after the City in Europe it was founded upon.
