Eglu by Omlet: How Many Chickens Can Fit in Your Eglu Chicken Coop

  • In this video I show you how I figured out how many chickens can fit in the Eglu Cube. This was in no way scientific, but fun and makes sense with my 8-6-4 chickens in the Eglu vs. Omlet's suggestion of 10-8-6 chickens. I am by no means saying they are wrong. I am sure they scientifically measured everything out and they have good reason, but when I visualize it I feel different about it.

My chickens used to have a huge coop and they would all stack in a corner. 2 next to each other, puched against the walls and 2 on top of that. I only got the eglu a few days ago, but they do seem happier. I think they wanted the coziness.

Thanks for this.I am considering 3 or 4 RIRs and the Omelet is my top choice. I wanted to provide space for 6 just in case.

In my experience so far that is about right. I have a one cube and one Go for 6 Ameraucanas and 3 black copper marans so usually go with 6 in the Cube and 3 in Go but left up to them they all go in the Cube every night and I have to literally pull 3 out to put in the Go.
When we had super cold sub zero temps this winter I just let all 9 stay in the cube to help keep them warmer since I don't have any heat for the coops and they did just fine on some 25 below plus nights. They were a little cramped but it wasn't terrible and the trade off for the extra heat was worth it IMO. Again, there are all Medium Sized chickens though.

How do you feel about the new Eglu Pro? It looks like it is double the width, because when you look at the inside it looks like it has 2 rooster bars.

I got an email about those a month or so ago and I think they look awesome! I just wish they would had them this time last year before I bought the Go and Cube.
Will probably sell my others and get one at some point because I really like the Omlet coops, they are so easy to clean and maintain.

Hi, I don’t have any chickens yet but I do have the eglu cube. I’m trying to figure out how many regular size welsummer I can fit. Thank you for making this video. 😊 I think I’ll get a maximum of 6. I don’t know how big the welsummer will get.

Great video. I'm trying to decide between the cube and the Pro. In your opinion, are the Pro's additional features worth the price tag. I have 6 hens. Thought process pros: larger area - more time between cleanings, more space = less pecking, pull out tray for nesting box, room for expanding flock. Cons: Price, possibly colder in winter due to extra space, weight and ease of movement with tractor and run. Would you upgrade?

I think you would be perfectly fine with 6 medium hens in the Eglu Cube. It seems like Eglu Pro is literally double the size (side by side) of the Eglu Cube and for 6 chickens that is a lot of space:). Now, if 6 is your number the Cube would be perfect, but if you think in any way, shape, or form you may want more chickens in the future and you can afford it get the Eglu Pro. For me that price is killer! I am gonna have to save up...I would love to have more chickens, but then again, with more space comes more cleaning:) There are some new features for the Eglu Pro that I like. I am actually going to be doing a video on this. Now, I do not have the Eglu Pro, but I was just going to talk about my Eglu Cube and tell the differences compared to the Pro. Maybe that video will help! I appreciate your question. Happy chicken raising!

@@tanakahomestead8820 Thanks for taking time to reply. The difference in price is definitely an obstacle. Especially, since Omlet is currently running a 20% off sale on the Cube. I'm looking forward to your Pro video.

Hello, I have 8 medium large hens and 5 small bantams. I have two eglu cubes but they all sleep together in one of them, and during the warmer days some sleep outside. I tried to put some in the other coop at night for a few days to see if they will get use to it but if left alone they go all together again

    • @tanakahomestead8820

They must really love each other! That is pretty incredible they all fit in there, but I think it is great:). Not much you can really do, because they are gonna sleep where they want, but as long as they are happy that is all that matters. During the warmer months I have noticed some of my girls enjoy staying out on the perch instead of being in the coop.. Thank you for sharing this. Happy chicken raising!

I know they certainly all snuggled when they were little😊cutest thing ever! They probably still do on cold nights, but we haven’t had too many.
