Not only are you taking surfing to the next level innovating audacious original manouvres on huge wave faces but your post session insights are fulfilling the deep desire of so many of us to understand more of what is happening in between rides in these extreme conditions at legendary spots like Jaws, Nazaré, Teahupoo and those at the top of their game who are able to ride such waves. Your exploits and commentary suggest to me a possible comparison with the challenges of the top sprinters in bike road racing. In particular Mark Cavendish who is close to breaking the record of Tour de France sprint victories and is - like you - in post race commentary - brilliantly naturally articulate in describing, bringing to life .. exactly what was going on in his head and around him at those very critical before crossing the finishing line! If you havent already you may enjoy watching his incredibly victory in the 2011 World Road Race Championships and then listening to him describe frame by frame just what he was experiencing as he beat everyone to the finish line in the most extreme conditions. Your creativity and athletic gifts, guts and stamina is producing great performances which transcend sport and are in the realm of pure art. On the wave where you said “going at terminal velocity”, there was the most amazing camera angle from the drone you rarely see; slightly behind the shoulder. It gave an amazing profile of the face of the wave. WSL needs to do this. Awesome video. Godspeed Kai.

Kay, what do you do to avoid the sinus? I also suffer from it and when I go surfing consecutive days, I suffer a lot because of it. I've trying som nasal sprays but they hardly ever work fine. It's kinda terrible because I always get the headaches or even migraines after surfing.
After each session, do your best to get all the water out. If you bend over and look to the right or left while also looking up there’s a certain angle where water should come pouring out on your exhales from your nose. There’s probably a video showing how to do this if I’m not making sense lol
Wish I could teach my nephews this lesson. That "board" cant just be "re-shipped" and that warehouse of boards wasnt filled with that mindset. My golf bag isnt full of mismatched golf balls because I bought them that way. Its probably thanks to the "re-shipped" mindset of those who left them behind. Maybe its the willingness to take on the tasks that most say the risk outweighs the reward that is filling that warehouse. And no, im not saying golf ball should = anything to anyone. And I understand the OP likely wasn't saying, "leave it behind", and was probably saying, "Kai built different" which = greatness

To many people's surprise, each one of these boards I use very often and cover a wide range of conditions. They are also for different sports besides traditional surfing. I do have backups of my favorites.

Why not just go full wakeboard half-submersible float vest, still playable enough to get under random madness, while always at constant buoyancy? You're pulling the tabs on literally every wash or close. You're not duck diving jaws, Naz, or Mavs on a tow only day. Dunnu why u wouldn't just full send a semi-floater. Save the canisters that are already being pulled on most waves, and for the clean ride outs: you're being pulled into the ski or channel anyways. The only thing you want is float in these conditions, esp on this spoon. Sure, the pull itself and inflation is rise, but with that in mind- why not just run an impact wake vest mentioned (that have excellent core motion) which *includes two pull canisters ready to go* for a ko-ready saving floater. One that already has enough to keep you bobbing in wash, + added top surface hold down resistance, and even more qualities. For massive 11-footer/tow only's, you're on the back of the ski, just doing your best to get spotted by the ski after, or avoid getting pinned. At Chopes on a code swell, as hundreds of tows add up over the day, I can't think of one wipeout where this sort of vest wouldn't be the optimal lifesaving, spine-resisting, equipment you'd want. Even more: how common the instant blackouts from the falling of cruise ship tonnage on to your neck are. Of every clip i've seen discussing swell aftermath reports, you hear 7/10 lads talking about how their canister didn't inish, popped early, dudded, or they blacked out before they could pull.
My impact wetsuit I’m wearing has more flotation than most life vest. The foam is evenly distributed throughout the suit. If I were to black out I’d be floating on the surface. The inflation vest is great because ur saves so much energy and cuts out the risk of a two wave hold down. Air float better than foam.

We don’t use leashes mainly for the risk of being hit by the board. Because they’re so small and heavy it’s more likely to be hit by a tow board where as a big wave gun has more surface area and tends to hit you less
