He isn't himself and ge is a puppet on a string to his addiction. He attempts to be happy but he fails to be happy without it so he fully accepts it, taking bigger doses. He suddenly gets a overdose and the addiction snuffs his light (to be intemperate as his life) out, claiming another victim. I love the song as it tells a good story.
And this i know all too well sadly and have become a kind of monster and by that meaning a harder hearted and tougher person and then the pride and security one feels about no longer being a door mat👍
